Ethniki Asfalistiki is Greece's oldest and largest insurance company, founded on 15 June 1891. As of November 27, 2025, it joined the Piraeus Bank Group after the bank acquired 100% of its parent holding company Ethniki Holdings S.à.r.l. from CVC Capital Partners.

Regulatory updates
Since November 27, 2025, Ethniki Asfalistiki operates under the Piraeus Bank Group following the completion of the acquisition of its parent company Ethniki Holdings S.à.r.l. for €600 million. The company maintains a strong Solvency II (SCR) ratio of 188% (2024), well above regulatory requirements. Piraeus Bank intends to classify itself as a Financial Conglomerate (FICO) and pursue the Danish Compromise supervisory treatment for its stake in Ethniki Asfalistiki, subject to regulatory approvals. The company continues to be supervised by the Bank of Greece's Directorate of Private Insurance Supervision (DEIA) under the Solvency II framework (Law 4364/2016). 2026 is a transitional year for integration into the Piraeus Group, with Ethniki continuing to operate its existing distribution network independently.
