HORIZON 1964 is a purely Greek, privately held non-life insurance company whose brand and business trace back to November 1964, when 'Horizon Insurance' was founded through the collaboration of insurer Christos G. Achis and the industrial group Izola S.A. The current legal entity bearing the name 'HORIZON 1964 Non-Life Insurance Company S.A.' was incorporated on 21 July 2022 as the universal successor of the predecessor company 'ORIZON A.E. GENERAL INSURANCE' (ΟΡΙΖΩΝ Α.Ε.Γ.Α.), following a partial demerger approved by the Bank of Greece; the company itself describes the 2022 entity as the 'natural continuation of the previous firm.' It is recognised as one of the most financially stable insurers in the Greek market, offering flexible insurance solutions to individuals and businesses across property, motor, liability, accident, travel, marine, guarantee and technical lines.

Regulatory updates
In August 2022, the Bank of Greece published a joint announcement, in application of article 28(7)(b) of Law 4364/2016, concerning the transfer of the non-life portfolio of 'ORIZON A.E. GENERAL INSURANCE' to the newly incorporated 'ORIZON 1964 Non-Life Insurance Company S.A.', carried out via a partial demerger with contribution of the non-life insurance business line. Following completion of this process (finalised in early 2023), ORIZON 1964 became the universal successor of ORIZON A.E.G.A. in all rights and obligations arising from the transferred policies. The company reports that, for 2023, it exceeded all Solvency II capital requirements, with an SCR ratio of 246.7% and an MCR ratio of 543.6%; more recent industry reporting for 2025 cites an SCR ratio of 237.32% and an MCR ratio of 571.06%. In March 2025 the company also announced its entry into the Suretyship/Guarantee insurance line.
