Overview
Syneteristiki Insurance, commercially known as Syndea since January 2024, is the only purely cooperative insurance company in Greece, founded in 1978 by agricultural cooperatives. It is 50.55% owned by Greek cooperative unions and banks and 49.45% by leading European cooperative insurers (UnipolSai/Italy, Macif/France, P&V/Belgium), with 124 shareholders representing the social economy sector. It operates across life and non-life lines through a network of about 1,500 points of sale, serves roughly 135,000 policyholders, and reported total turnover of €29M in 2024.

Regulatory updates
Syndea (Syneteristiki) remains active and licensed under Bank of Greece supervision, whose insurance-supervision directorate was renamed to the Directorate for Supervision of Occupational and Private Insurance effective 1 January 2025. Based on 2025 solvency reports filed with the Bank of Greece, Syndea returned to profitability with net profit of about €513,000, reversing a loss recorded in 2024. The company continues to be cited with a high solvency ratio (previously reported near 200%) and is a member of EAEE, ICMIF and EURESA. No adverse regulatory action against the company has been publicly reported.
