Direct payment

The insurer pays repair costs directly to the repair shop based on invoices; in total-loss cases, the insurer pays the policyholder after deducting the salvage value and any deductible. Rescue, towing and temporary storage costs up to HUF 100,000 are reimbursed without deductible against invoices.

Unique selling points

  • Built-in free travel insurance (Genertel group policy) for Optimál Prémium and Optimál Extra policyholders covering unlimited foreign trips per year up to 30 days each, with up to HUF 5,000,000 medical/rescue expenses — included at no extra premium.
  • Free Smart Mobility package (misfuelling insurance up to HUF 50,000/year + 24/7 roadside assistance for mechanical failure and tyre punctures) included at no additional cost with Optimál, Optimál Extra and Optimál Prémium variants.
  • Wide pan-European territorial scope covering 47 countries as standard — extending far beyond the Green Card territory, including the European parts of Turkey and Ukraine, without extra endorsement.
  • No-deductible glass repair: when a cracked windscreen or window can be repaired without replacement, the insurer applies zero deductible — providing hassle-free cover for the most common claim type.
  • Automatic annual premium adjustment mechanism (JCKF28 XII. fejezet) tied to the average of KSH vehicle-parts and vehicle-repair price indices and CPI, with a 5% floor — providing transparent, index-linked pricing rather than discretionary insurer increases.

Coverage limits

Own damage (collision / accidental damage)

Covered

Covers damage caused by accidental mechanical impact from outside (including animal behaviour or vehicle technical failure) and deliberate damage by third parties, provided the damage occurred as described in the claim notification. Settlement is based on actual repair costs up to Hungarian average price levels using Audatex calculation, reduced by wear-and-tear depreciation where applicable.

Source

Total loss (economic or technical write-off)

Covered

Covers total loss when the vehicle is destroyed, stolen and not recovered, or sustains economic total loss (repair costs exceed 70% of current market value minus salvage value) or technical total loss (body or chassis requires replacement). For new vehicles in the first 3 months, indemnity equals the invoice purchase price; after 3 months and for used vehicles, indemnity equals the current market value (káridőponti forgalmi érték) up to the purchase price, reduced by deductible, salvage value and depreciation from prior unrepaired damage.

Source

Partial loss (repair of covered insured event damage)

Covered

Covers the actual repair costs of vehicle damage arising from an insured event, up to the Hungarian average price level at the time of the loss (based on Audatex calculation). Safety device replacement costs (airbags, seat belts, tensioners) are reimbursed only against invoice. For vehicles up to 6 years old, depreciation deductions apply only to tyres, battery, exhaust, wearing parts, running gear, engine, gearbox, electro-acoustic equipment, alloy wheels and full paintwork.

Source

Theft, partial theft and robbery

Covered

Covers theft of the entire vehicle (if not recovered) when all security devices were properly engaged at the time; unauthorised taking of the vehicle (jogtalan használat) if not recovered; partial theft of parts and accessories from a properly secured vehicle; and robbery (forcible taking from the lawful user). Unauthorised use by a person entrusted with the vehicle (jogtalan használat rábízott jármű esetén) and embezzlement are explicitly excluded. All security devices must be operational and activated at the time of loss.

Source

Glass damage (window glass)

Covered

Covers damage to the vehicle's window glass (including glass or transparent roof elements) caused by sudden direct mechanical impact or deliberate damage by a third party. No deductible applies when the glass can be repaired without replacement. A deductible applies to replacement only if replacement cost equals or exceeds 65% of the Audatex calculation value. Roof elements made wholly or partly of glass or other transparent material are treated as window glass.

Source

Natural perils (elemental damage)

Covered

Covers damage caused by: fire or explosion arising from vehicle malfunction or external fire spreading; direct lightning strike; landslide; rock/earth fall; collapse of natural cavity or underground structure; windstorm (≥15 m/s / 54 km/h); cloudburst (≥0.5 mm/min in 20 min or ≥30 mm in 24 hrs); hail; flood; inland water; other inundation; avalanche; snow pressure; earthquake (MSK-64 scale grade 5+). Also covers damage caused by objects falling onto the vehicle as a result of the above natural forces.

Source

Vandalism (deliberate damage by third party)

Covered

Deliberate damage to the insured vehicle caused by a third party is covered under the collision/accident damage (töréskár) event definition at I.4.1, which explicitly includes damage caused by third persons. Vandalism is also covered under window glass damage (üvegkár, I.4.6) for glass specifically. Damage caused by the insured or policyholder themselves (intentional) is excluded per VII.1.

Roadside assistance (mechanical failure and tyre puncture)

Optional

Roadside assistance for mechanical failure or tyre puncture (not caused by accident) is available as an optional add-on (MHDKF1 – Műszaki hiba és defekt assistance). Services include on-site repair (up to HUF 30,000), towing in Hungary (up to HUF 30,000) or abroad (up to HUF 50,000), and further optional services (home transport, overnight stay, hire car) up to specified limits per policy year. The Generali Autós Assistance line (+36 1 458 4451) is available 24/7. Basic towing after an insured event is included in the base policy (II.2.1.2) up to HUF 100,000.

Replacement vehicle (loan car)

Optional

A loan car service is available as an optional add-on (KGSZKF4 – Kölcsöngépjármű kiegészítő szolgáltatás) or via endorsement 4057. The insurer reimburses the rental fee for a vehicle of the same category for the duration of repair (partial loss) or up to the settlement of total loss/theft claim. Fuel costs and damage caused to the loan vehicle are excluded. Also available as part of roadside assistance MHDKF1 (hire car up to HUF 30,000 domestically, HUF 90,000 abroad per policy year, max once per year). The base policy (VI.22) explicitly excludes loss-of-use costs and loan vehicle expenses from standard coverage.

Driver/passenger accident insurance

Optional

Personal accident cover for the driver/passengers is not part of the standard Optimál base product. It is included as a built-in benefit only in the Optimál Prémium and Optimál Extra tiers, through a group travel insurance policy underwritten by Genertel Biztosító Zrt. (up to HUF 5,000,000 for accident/illness medical costs, unlimited repatriation). Cover applies to natural persons, permanent Hungarian residents with valid TAJ number, under 70 years of age. The built-in travel insurance covers unlimited number of foreign trips per year, each up to 30 days.

Key conditions

driver_age_experience_limit

No explicit minimum driver age or experience requirement is stated in the policy terms for coverage eligibility. However, the insurer is exempt from payment if the driver did not hold a valid driving licence at the time of the insured event (VI.15), or if the policyholder/insured was aware that the driver was unfit to drive (VI.12).

repair_network_requirements

The base policy does not restrict repairs to a specific network; costs are reimbursed at average Hungarian authorised workshop rates based on the Audatex calculation system (II.2.4.1). Optional endorsements (4057, 4067, 4068, T80A00, T90A00, T99A00) may link benefits (reduced deductible, higher total-loss threshold) to repairs at the authorised brand dealer specified in the policy by dealer code. Lock/ignition cylinder replacement must be performed at a Hungarian authorised brand dealer (IX.8).

territorial_scope

The policy covers insured events occurring in the following 47 European countries: Albania, Andorra, Austria, Belgium, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, United Kingdom, North Macedonia, Estonia, Finland, Belarus, France, Gibraltar, Greece, Netherlands, Croatia, Ireland, Iceland, Kosovo, Poland, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Hungary, Malta, Republic of Moldova, Monaco, Montenegro, Germany, Norway, Italy, Portugal, Romania, San Marino, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, European part of Turkey (territory bordered by Bulgaria-Greece-Aegean Sea-Sea of Marmara-Black Sea), Ukraine and Vatican. Endorsement 4050 can exclude the Baltic states, Belarus, Moldova and Ukraine; endorsement 4051/4064 restricts to Hungary only; endorsement 4066 extends to Russia, Azerbaijan, Georgia, Armenia and Asian Turkey.

anti_theft_requirements

All installed security devices must be properly engaged and operational at the time of the theft for the theft cover to apply (I.4.3, I.4.4). Specific endorsements (4016, 4045, 4052, 4053, 4054) set out detailed technical requirements for immobilisers, alarms and GPS tracking systems. If the vehicle becomes unsecurable after the original fitting (e.g. due to lock damage, lost key, failed attempted theft), the insurer's liability for theft risk is suspended until certified professional repair/replacement (VII.2a, VII.3). The insurer requires keys, remote controls and electronic start cards to be handed over upon claiming theft (VIII.2.9). At least 2 original keys must be in existence (endorsement 4046 can exclude theft if fewer than 2 keys are declared).

claim_notification_deadline

Insured events must be reported within 15 days of discovery via Generali's official channels (phone +36 1 452 3333, online, in person, or by mail at 7602 Pécs, Pf. 888) (VIII.2.1, ÁVF IX.1). Theft, robbery, vandalism, fire and explosion must additionally be reported to the police within 2 working days (VIII.2.6). For claims reported after 15 days, coverage is provided only if it is beyond doubt that the loss occurred during the coverage period. Recovery of a stolen vehicle must be reported within 2 working days of becoming aware of it (VIII.2.8). Repairs must not begin without the insurer's prior written consent, unless the insurer fails to carry out a damage inspection within 5 working days of notification (VIII.2.4, ÁVF IX.11–IX.13).

deductible_rules

The deductible (önrész) is selected by the policyholder at inception and is applied per insured event per vehicle. A single deductible applies even when multiple insured events occur simultaneously or from the same cause (V. fejezet). For glass damage, no deductible applies when the glass can be repaired without replacement; when replacement is necessary, a deductible applies only if replacement costs reach or exceed 65% of the Audatex calculation value (II.2.4.5). Salvage value is deducted from total-loss indemnity in addition to the deductible. For loss-prevention costs authorised by the insurer, a 10% deductible applies (IX.2). Endorsements 4067 and 4068 halve the minimum deductible for repairs at specified BMW/Mini or dealer brand workshops.
