Direct payment

The insurer settles claims by bank transfer in Hungarian forints, due within 15 days of the date the claim documentation is received (or, if further documents/statements are required, from the date the last such document arrives). VAT on repair/restoration costs is reimbursed only against an invoice showing the VAT amount. The payout is reduced by the agreed deductible, the salvage (wreck) value, any VAT the policyholder can reclaim from the tax authority, outstanding premium arrears, and the unpaid premium for the rest of the insurance period if the contract ends due to the claim. The policyholder/insured may request payment by postal money order instead of bank transfer, in which case the postal transit time is not counted into the 15-day deadline.

Geographic scope

Hungary and the countries of the Green Card Convention system

Base casco cover applies in Hungary and the territory of the countries currently part of the international Green Card Convention system. The Prémium Casco assistance service has its own, narrower list of covered European countries and explicitly excludes the Asian part of Turkey. The Prémium Casco luggage benefit is valid in Hungary only.

Unique selling points

  • No deductible is charged on any Prémium Casco assistance, accident, or luggage benefit, unlike the standard per-claim deductible applied to collision and theft damage.
  • For vehicles under 8 years old, most damaged parts are replaced at full new-parts cost with no wear deduction, except the exhaust, battery, running-gear and tyres.
  • A brand-new vehicle damaged within 90 days of its first registration is reimbursed at its original new purchase price rather than its depreciated market value.
  • The cost of replacing vehicle locks after key loss is reimbursed at 50% once per insurance period, independent of any other claim.
  • Prémium Casco includes a 24/7 multilingual assistance hotline (Europ Assistance) covering on-site repair, towing, storage, onward travel and accommodation.

Coverage limits

Collision/impact damage (töréskár peril)

Conditional

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

A sudden, external force causing permanent deformation or damage to the insured vehicle in an accident, and damage caused to the vehicle by an unknown third person or an animal, are insured events. The Komfort and Prémium packages pay for repair of this damage; under Bázis Casco this peril is covered only to the extent it results in total loss.

Source

Total loss / theft replacement cost

100% of insured sum

If repair cost exceeds 70% of the vehicle's value at the time of loss, or the stolen/robbed vehicle is not recovered within 60 days of the police report, the insurer pays the vehicle's replacement cost: the Hungarian market value at the time of loss, capped at the used-vehicle value under the Hungarian vehicle valuation system. For a vehicle purchased new and damaged within 90 days of its first registration, the original new purchase price is used instead. Salvage (wreck) value and any unpaid annual premium are deducted from the payout. Included in all three packages (Bázis, Komfort, Prémium).

Source

Partial damage repair cost coverage

Conditional

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

Covers physical damage that does not amount to total loss and can be economically repaired. The insurer pays the brand-typical average repair cost using new parts, with wear-based value deductions applied to the exhaust system, battery, running-gear/wear parts and tyres; if the vehicle is over 8 years old, value deductions also apply to all other repaired elements. Available only under Komfort and Prémium Casco; Bázis Casco does not cover partial damage.

Source

Theft and robbery

100% of insured sum

Covers theft or robbery of the vehicle or its parts/accessories and damage caused during a theft/robbery attempt. If the vehicle is not recovered within 60 days of the police report it is treated as total loss and the replacement cost is paid. The insurer is exempt if the vehicle was not properly locked, its anti-theft system was not engaged, the keys were not safeguarded, or the vehicle was embezzled after being lent/rented out. Included in all three packages.

Source

Windscreen/window glass damage

Conditional

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

Glass damage falls under the töréskár peril (paid under the Komfort/Prémium repair service, or as total loss under Bázis if the total-loss threshold is reached). No deductible is charged if the glass is repaired without replacement. The standard contractual deductible applies if replacement cost is below 65% of the required parts/materials cost; a 20% deductible applies if replacement cost reaches or exceeds 65%. Sunroofs, glass roofs and panoramic roofs are not treated as 'ablaküveg'.

Source

Natural hazard damage (elemi kár)

100% of insured sum

Covers fire, lightning, explosion, earthquake of at least Mercalli-Sieberg grade 5, landslide, rock/earth collapse, storm, cloudburst, flood, inland inundation, pipe-burst water damage, hail, and snow-load/avalanche damage. Listed as a covered event in all three packages, but Bázis Casco only pays out if the event results in total loss, while Komfort and Prémium also pay for repairable (partial) natural-hazard damage.

Source

Damage by unknown person or animal (vandalism)

Conditional

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

Damage to the vehicle caused by an unknown third person or by an animal (e.g. rodent damage, game/animal collision damage) is included within the töréskár peril definition, not as a separately named cover. It is repaired under the Komfort/Prémium service, or paid as total loss under Bázis if the total-loss threshold is reached.

Roadside assistance (Prémium Casco asszisztencia)

HUF 85,000

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

24/7 assistance (via Europ Assistance Magyarország), covering on-site repair, towing to a workshop, vehicle storage, return travel home or continued travel to destination, a rental vehicle, and overnight accommodation if the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy within 24 hours of the event. Automatically included in Prémium Casco; a Komfort Casco policyholder may add it as one of at most two paid extra services. Combined limit HUF 85,000 per insurance period across all assistance services; no deductible applies. Not available under Bázis Casco.

Source

Replacement/rental vehicle

Conditional

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

If the vehicle cannot be made roadworthy within 24 hours of the insured event, a self-drive rental car can be arranged as part of the Prémium Casco assistance service. Its cost is paid from the shared HUF 85,000/period assistance limit, not as a separate sum insured. Damage to, theft of, or late return of the rental car, and its running/toll costs, are excluded.

Accident benefit (Prémium Casco balesetbiztosítás)

HUF 4,000,000

Only in Komfort Casco, Prémium Casco

If an insured person dies within 3 months of an accident connected to an insured casco event, a fixed HUF 2,000,000 is paid to the heirs. For permanent disability of 50% or more, a proportional share of a HUF 4,000,000 sum is paid (e.g. 80% disability = HUF 3,200,000); no benefit is paid below 50% disability. Benefits are per insured person and pro-rated if the vehicle carried more occupants than permitted. Included in Prémium Casco; a Komfort Casco policyholder may add it as one of at most two paid extra services; no deductible applies. Not available under Bázis Casco.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The T&C do not set a minimum driver age or minimum driving experience. Coverage requires that whoever drove the vehicle at the time of the event held a valid driving licence for that vehicle category (and was not under the influence of alcohol or drugs); otherwise the insurer excludes the claim.

Repair network requirements

Repair costs are reimbursed only for repairs carried out in a Hungarian repair workshop, based on the brand-typical average repair cost; the insurer may check the repair invoice against purchase/subcontractor invoices and inspect the vehicle after repair before paying.

Territorial scope

Base casco cover (damage, theft, robbery) is valid in Hungary and the current Green Card Convention countries. The Prémium Casco assistance service is valid only in Hungary and a separate, shorter list of European countries, explicitly excluding Asian Turkey. The Prémium Casco luggage benefit is valid in Hungary only.

Anti-theft requirements

The vehicle must be properly locked and, where contractually required, protected by a functioning anti-theft device (e.g. alarm, tracker). After key loss or lock damage, the locks and anti-theft system must be immediately recoded or replaced at a specialist workshop, and the vehicle stored securely until then. A 'security lock' is defined as a cylinder lock with at least 5 pins, a magnetic lock with at least 6 rotors, or a code lock with over 10,000 combinations.

Claim notification deadline

A claim must be reported in writing within 10 working days of the event, or of the policyholder/insured becoming aware of it. Late reporting may release the insurer from liability if it makes circumstances material to the claim impossible to establish.

Deductible rules

The policyholder chooses a deductible at inception (e.g. 10% of the claim, minimum a fixed HUF amount) applied per claim. No deductible applies to windscreen repair without replacement, or to Prémium Casco assistance, accident and luggage benefits. A reduced (standard contractual) deductible applies if a claim relates solely to lock/anti-theft-system damage from an attempted theft, or to windscreen replacement costing under 65% of required parts/materials cost (20% deductible if 65% or more). The deductible is doubled if the collision occurred while speeding by at least 30% over the limit.

Policy specifics

New parts replacement for vehicles under 8 years old

For damage to vehicles younger than 8 years, the insurer reimburses replacement parts at new parts cost rather than used/depreciated parts cost

Source

Total loss definition threshold

Total loss is defined as damage where repair costs exceed 70% of the vehicle's value at the time of loss

Source

Rodent and small animal damage coverage

Coverage includes damage caused by rodents and other small animals to the vehicle

Source

Game/animal collision coverage

Coverage for physical damage to the vehicle caused by collision with wild animals

Source

Multiple coverage package variants

Groupama Casco is offered in three main variants: BÁZIS CASCO (basic), KOMFORT CASCO (comfort), and PRÉMIUM CASCO (premium) with escalating coverage and services

Source

Animal-caused damage (rodent damage, game/animal collision) as part of töréskár

In the current (2025-07-01) T&C, damage to the vehicle caused by an animal (e.g. rodent gnawing, collision with game) is not a separately named peril but is explicitly included in the definition of töréskár: 'the biztosított jármű ismeretlen személy vagy állat általi megrongálása'. It is therefore covered on the same terms as collision damage (Komfort/Prémium repair service, or total loss under Bázis if the threshold is reached).

Source

Damage-free bonus classification system

Casco uses a bonus system with a base class (A00) and 10 bonus classes (B01-B10) based on claim-free years

Source

Direct settlement via repair network partners (Groupama Auto+)

Not established from the insurer's documents

For repairs at preferred repair network partners, Groupama directly deducts the deductible and pays the repair facility, eliminating consumer administrative burden. For non-network repairs, the policyholder must submit invoices and is reimbursed within 15 days.

Vehicle condition assessment at policy inception

At contract inception, Groupama assesses the vehicle condition. For certain defects discovered, specific exclusions (termed 'záradék') are added to the contract documenting exactly which damages are not covered.

Source

KGFB bonus recognition in Casco pricing

Groupama applies discounts based on KGFB (mandatory vehicle liability insurance) bonus even if the KGFB policy is held with another insurer

Source

Eligible insured persons for Casco

The insured must be either the vehicle owner or, in case of vehicle financing through leasing, the operator (üzembentartó)

Source

Endorsement (záradék) system for vehicle-condition exclusions

The parties may attach specific endorsement clauses at contract conclusion or during the term, excluding cover for particular risks tied to the vehicle's condition or equipment — e.g. clause A01 excludes theft risk for lack of a Mabisz-rated immobiliser, A02 for lack of proof of all original keys, A11 excludes theft/robbery risk for lack of a Mabisz-rated anti-robbery device, and A23–A30 exclude or limit cover for already-damaged or improperly repaired vehicle elements.
