Key conditions

Territorial scope

Coverage extends to the EEA member states and Switzerland, plus Green Card system countries with a bilateral agreement with the Hungarian National Bureau (e.g. Albania, Andorra, Azerbaijan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Israel, North Macedonia, Morocco, Moldova, Montenegro, Serbia excl. Kosovo, Tunisia, Turkey, Ukraine).

Green card rules

A Green Card is issued to certify MTPL cover when travelling outside the EEA/Switzerland in Green Card system countries; it is provided free of charge, electronically or on paper, and must meet printing requirements when delivered electronically.

Driver restrictions

The insurer may pursue recourse (visszkereset) against the driver or operator if the vehicle was driven without authorisation, if damage was caused intentionally, if the driver was under the influence of alcohol or drugs, drove without a valid licence, or if the vehicle was in a seriously neglected technical condition; recourse amounts are capped by law (e.g. HUF 5 million, 1.5 million or 500,000 depending on the breach).

Claim notification deadline

The injured third party must report the claim within 30 days of the event or of becoming aware of it; the insured (at-fault operator/driver) must report the claim in writing to the insurer within 5 business days.

Bonus-malus rules

Premiums are adjusted under the mandatory bonus-malus system (A00 base class, 10 bonus and 4 malus classes) based on claims history over the preceding insurance period, in line with NGM Decree 21/2011 (VI.10.).
