Gránit Biztosító Zrt. (formerly Wáberer Hungária Biztosító Zrt.)
Gránit Biztosító
Gránit Biztosító is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Hungary market with no online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
The insurer settles vehicle damage either on an invoice basis (reimbursing repair costs including VAT against a valid invoice) or, at the claimant's request, via a settlement agreement based on the insurer's own net repair cost calculation without requiring an invoice. Payment is made by bank transfer to businesses, and by bank transfer or postal order to private individuals.
Geographic scope
Hungary
The policy's territorial scope covers the territory of the EEA member states and the countries of the Green Card system whose national bureau has a bilateral agreement with the Hungarian National Bureau.
Unique selling points
- Qualifying international-haulage fleets (tractor units, trailers over 10t, or trucks over 12t) can pay premiums in EUR and receive an additional 1% discount for doing so.
- The insurer publishes its own detailed vehicle value-depreciation (értékcsökkenés) calculation methodology, based on the MABISZ method developed by a forensic expert, on its website for transparency.
- Employees and pensioners of a named list of partner companies (including Gránit Bank, Waberer's group companies, Vodafone Magyarország and others) receive a dedicated kiemelt partnerek premium discount.
- A combined electronic-communication and payment-method discount table lets customers stack savings for choosing e-communication together with transfer, card or direct debit payment on top of the annual/half-yearly payment discount.
- New-car buyers (üzemben tartó aged 26–65 who obtained their licence at 17–19) and drivers confirming a minimum regular-driver age of 20 both qualify for dedicated premium discounts not tied to bonus-malus history.

Key conditions
Territorial scope
The policy's territorial scope covers all EEA member states and Svájc (as defined tagállam), plus Green Card system countries whose national bureau has a bilateral agreement (per the Internal Regulations) with the Hungarian National Bureau.
Green card rules
The Green Card is a standardised international MTPL document (or electronically produced certificate) issued by insurers on behalf of the national bureau to the vehicle keeper, used to prove MTPL cover when visiting a Green Card system country.
Driver restrictions
There is no named-driver restriction; the insured is the vehicle keeper holding the policy and any person driving the vehicle. However, the insurer/Compensation Fund can seek recourse against the driver or keeper for the paid claim amount in specific cases, e.g. driving without the keeper's permission, deliberate unlawful damage, driving under alcohol/drug influence, driving without a valid licence, hit-and-run/failure to assist, or a keeper's breach of disclosure or notification duties.
Claim notification deadline
The injured party must report the claim to the insurer within 30 days of the event or of becoming aware of it; the insured (policyholder/driver) must notify the insurer in writing within 5 business days, providing the data and circumstances needed for claims handling.
Bonus-malus rules
The bonus-malus system comprises one base class (A00), 10 bonus classes and 4 malus classes. Policyholders with a claim-free history move up a bonus class; those who caused a compensable claim move down towards malus classes, based on claims data recorded during the period between the preceding and new insurance periods.
