AXA Assistance is a travel insurance for the Hungary market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurer's assistance partner (SOS Assistance Hungary, together with AXA Assistance) arranges medical care abroad and settles costs directly with foreign healthcare institutions up to the applicable limit; costs the insured has already paid personally can be claimed back via claims@axa-assistance.hu.
Geographic scope
Policyholder selects one of three zones: 'Europe', 'World excluding USA and Canada', or 'World' (all excluding Hungary)
Cover applies only to events occurring within the selected zone; Magyarország is excluded from the main travel insurance cover, except for trip cancellation, missed departure, and flight delay/cancellation benefits, which also apply within Hungary

Total medical expense limit varies by package: HUF 40,000,000 (Referencia), HUF 220,000,000 (Komfort), HUF 8,000,000,000 (Excellence). Covers necessary and reasonable emergency medical/hospital treatment, diagnostics, medication and related costs abroad.
Assistance/emergency medical services
100% of insured sum
24/7 assistance service (SOS Assistance Hungary/AXA Assistance) organizing emergency medical care is included in all three packages, up to the full medical expenses limit.
Hospitalization
100% of insured sum
In-patient hospital treatment in a multi-bed standard room, including surgery, anaesthesia, medication and meals, is covered up to the full medical expenses limit in all three packages, for the necessary duration.
Outpatient treatment
100% of insured sum
Necessary outpatient examinations, diagnostics and treatment abroad are covered up to the full medical expenses limit in all three packages.
Emergency dental treatment
HUF 96,000 – HUF 320,000
Emergency dental treatment for acute pain (extraction, filling, X-ray) is covered up to HUF 96,000 (Referencia), HUF 176,000 (Komfort), or HUF 320,000 (Excellence).
Medical transport / repatriation transport
100% of insured sum
Transport to the nearest suitable healthcare facility, between facilities, and repatriation transport to Hungary (including necessary medical escort) is covered up to the full medical expenses limit in all three packages.
Medical evacuation (mountain rescue/helicopter)
100% of insured sum
Mountain rescue service and/or helicopter transport from the site of an accident/illness to the nearest suitable healthcare facility, where medically required, is covered up to the full medical expenses limit in all three packages.
Repatriation of remains
100% of insured sum
Transport of mortal remains to Hungary and other unavoidable related costs are covered up to the full medical expenses limit, in all three packages.
Search and rescue
100% of insured sum
Mountain rescue is included within the medical expenses limit in all packages, but search/rescue costs for locating the insured are only covered if the insured's life or health was actually endangered by an accident or illness.
COVID-19 treatment
HUF 400,000,000
Only in Excellence, Komfort
Ordinary COVID-19 treatment falls under the general medical expenses limit for all tiers (COVID-19 is explicitly excluded from the epidemic exclusion). For travel to areas officially designated high-risk, only Excellence provides an additional dedicated COVID-19 medical cost limit of HUF 400,000,000. Quarantine accommodation/meals and return-to-Hungary costs after quarantine are covered up to HUF 480,000 (Excellence) or HUF 240,000 (Komfort); not available in Referencia.

Care related to conditions existing/treated in the 12 months before the policy start is generally excluded, but this exclusion does not apply to stabilized chronic diseases in any package. Additionally, the Excellence package covers acute flare-ups of (non-stabilized) chronic diseases up to HUF 16,000,000; not covered under Komfort or Referencia.
Winter sports cover

Skiing/snowboarding on marked/designated pistes is classified as a 'traditional sport' and is automatically included at no extra premium in all three packages. Off-piste skiing, freeride, snowpark and similar require the optional Risky Sports add-on, available only with Excellence and Komfort.

Optional add-on extending medical expenses, accident insurance and liability cover to risky sports (e.g. mountaineering, diving, canyoning, off-piste skiing) practiced at leisure level or in organized competitions, up to the relevant underlying limit. Pregnancy complications

Pregnancy-related medical care is covered within the medical expenses limit in all packages up to the 32nd week of pregnancy; complications occurring after the 32nd week, risk pregnancy, childbirth, infertility treatment, and contraception/hormone therapy costs are excluded.
Personal liability

Liability for bodily injury caused to a third party is covered up to HUF 80,000,000 (Komfort) or HUF 400,000,000 (Excellence); property damage liability up to HUF 24,000,000/HUF 160,000,000 and lost-profit liability up to HUF 16,000,000 (Excellence only) also apply. Not available with the Referencia package.
Legal protection
HUF 320,000 – HUF 1,600,000
Only in Excellence, Komfort
Legal protection (e.g. for traffic accidents abroad, disputes over compensation from a third party) is covered up to HUF 320,000 (Komfort) or HUF 1,600,000 (Excellence); minimum dispute value HUF 48,000. Not available with the Referencia package.
24/7 assistance service
Covered
24/7 assistance services (SOS Assistance Hungary together with AXA Assistance) are included in all three packages. A dedicated 24/7 telephone/video doctor consultation service is included only in the Excellence package.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The claim event must be reported without undue delay. For transports, medical evacuation, repatriation and similar services, prior approval from the assistance service (SOS Assistance Hungary/AXA Assistance) must be obtained before they are arranged.
Unauthorized treatment
Medical costs arising after refusing treatment, hospital, or repatriation proposed/authorized by the insurer or assistance service, or after arranging transport/services without the assistance service's prior consent, are not reimbursed; breach of other obligations may lead to a proportional reduction or refusal of benefits.
Purchase while abroad
The policy can be concluded at any time; if the cover start date coincides with the contract conclusion date, cover only begins 4 hours after the premium is paid, so protection is not immediate if purchased while already travelling.
Chronic conditions
Stabilized chronic diseases are covered under medical expenses in all three packages. Acute flare-ups of non-stabilized chronic diseases are only covered under the Excellence package, up to HUF 16,000,000.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy-related medical costs are covered under medical expenses up to the 32nd week of pregnancy; complications after the 32nd week, risk pregnancy, childbirth, infertility treatment, and contraception/hormone therapy costs are excluded.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Medical care is excluded if the illness or injury already existed and/or was treated in the 12 months before the policy start, or occurred in Hungary before departure; this exclusion does not apply to stabilized chronic diseases (all tiers) or, for the Excellence tier, to chronic diseases in general.
Coverage duration limit
Single-trip cover can last from 1 day up to 365 days; a new single-trip policy may only be taken out 30 days after the expiry of a policy longer than 180 days. Multi-trip (annual) cover is open-ended, but each individual foreign trip is covered for a maximum of 90 consecutive days.
