Gránit Biztosító Zrt. (formerly Wáberer Hungária Biztosító Zrt.)
Gránit Biztosító
Gránit Biztosító is a travel insurance for the Hungary market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurance premium is a one-time (single) payment due at the conclusion of the contract; coverage only begins once the full premium has been credited to the insurer's account prior to the start of risk coverage.
Geographic scope
Europe (as defined in the policy's country list), extendable for a surcharge to Russia and all non-European continents
Coverage applies outside Hungary within the defined list of European countries; it does not extend to countries or regions the Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs advises against traveling to on the first day of risk coverage or entry.
Unique selling points
- Prémium tier offers medical expense coverage up to 100,000,000 HUF abroad, well above the Bázis tier's 3,000,000 HUF.
- Prémium tier includes both legal assistance and third-party liability cover (1,000,000 HUF each), items many competing base packages exclude.
- Per-item baggage loss is covered without a per-item cap in both packages, aside from a specific sublimit for laptops and similar electronics.
- Claims and emergencies are handled through a dedicated Europ Assistance Magyarország Kft. hotline, with related roadside/auto information services available every day from 0-24.
- Family and group premium discounts are available (for families traveling together and groups of 10 or more).

No separate COVID-19-specific benefit or limit is published for the Wáberer (now Gránit Biztosító) travel product; per Hungarian industry practice that applies to this insurer, medically necessary emergency treatment abroad due to COVID-19 infection is covered under the general emergency medical/hospitalization cost limit of the chosen package (e.g. Bázis/Prémium), the same as for any other sudden illness, with no separate pandemic exclusion applied to emergency care; quarantine itself, however, is generally not treated as an insured event.
Pre-existing conditions
Excluded
Risk coverage does not extend to illnesses/accidents whose cause, in whole or in part, existed before the start of the trip, or for which the insured was under medical treatment within one year before departure, or for which treatment would have been demonstrably necessary within that year.

24/7 assistance service
Covered
Claims and emergencies must be reported to the Europ Assistance Magyarország Kft. helpline; the related roadside/auto-information service explicitly operates every day of the week from 0-24 hours.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured event must be reported to the Europ Assistance Magyarország Kft. helpline within 48 hours of occurrence (immediately in case of hospital admission); baggage claims must be reported within 15 days of the end of risk coverage.
Unauthorized treatment
If a service is used without prior coordination with or approval of Europ Assistance (where attributable to the insured), the insurer's liability is limited to the cost that would have arisen had the service been arranged by Europ Assistance, unless the insured proves the lack of prior approval is not attributable to them.
Purchase while abroad
A new policy may only be validly concluded while the insured is abroad if, from the start of the trip until the new policy's inception, the insured was continuously covered under a prior policy with the same insurer and no insured event occurred during that period.
Chronic conditions
Illnesses that were already known before the trip began, or for which the insured received medical treatment within one year before departure (or such treatment would have been demonstrably necessary), are excluded from risk coverage.
Pregnancy
Obstetric care, spontaneous miscarriage and premature birth are covered as emergency treatment up to the 28th week of pregnancy; prenatal care and routine pregnancy check-ups are excluded.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Coverage does not extend to illnesses or accidents whose cause existed, in whole or in part, before the start of the insurance or the trip, or for which medical treatment was received or demonstrably needed within one year prior to departure.
Coverage duration limit
Risk coverage must start no later than the 60th day after the contract is concluded, and the policy may be taken out for a maximum of 90 days from the start of coverage. The insurer's total liability for a single insured event is capped at 200,000,000 HUF, regardless of the number of affected policies or insureds.
