Direct payment

Allianz Italy applies the CARD (Convenzione tra Assicuratori per il Risarcimento Diretto) system: in the event of a road accident between two motor vehicles, the injured party submits the claim to their own insurer, which settles on behalf of the at-fault party's insurer. Third parties may also file directly against Allianz as the at-fault party's insurer.

Key conditions

territorial_scope

The insurance is valid for the territory of the Italian Republic, Vatican City, Republic of San Marino, all States forming part of the European Economic Area, as well as the Principality of Monaco, Switzerland, Andorra, Serbia, and Bosnia-Herzegovina. Coverage extends to other countries via the Green Card (International Insurance Certificate) for countries whose international codes are not crossed out on the certificate.

green_card_rules

The insurer is required to issue the Green Card (International Insurance Certificate) upon request. Coverage in Green Card countries operates according to the compulsory motor insurance legislation of the country where the accident occurs, subject to the higher contractual limits where these apply. The card extends coverage to all countries adhering to the international certificate system whose codes are not crossed out on the certificate.

driver_restrictions

The insurance operates for any driver authorised by the policyholder. An optional 'Guida Esperta' (experienced driver) clause restricts driving to the vehicle owner plus persons aged over 26 years, providing a premium discount of up to 15%. In case of a claim under this clause, if a driver under 26 caused the accident, Allianz reserves the right of recovery. The 'Patto per i Giovani' product variant is available for policyholders up to age 27 with a single named driver and a recovery right up to EUR 10,000 if another driver caused the accident.

claim_notification_deadline

In the event of an accident, the policyholder must notify Allianz by calling the toll-free number 800 68 68 68; this call has full legal force as a claim notification. Alternatively, written notice must be given to the agency managing the policy or to the company within three days of the event or from when the insured became aware of it, stating the place, date, time and circumstances of the event, the extent of the damage, and the names and addresses of any witnesses. The claim must be filed on the joint accident form (Modulo di Constatazione Amichevole – CAI, also known as 'Modulo Blu').

bonus_malus_rules

The premium is adjusted annually based on the Bonus-Malus class (Classe di Merito Universale – CU) as determined by the IVASS regulation n. 9/2015. The observation period begins on the policy inception date and ends 60 days before renewal. One claim-free year moves the policyholder one class lower (bonus); a penalised claim moves the class higher (malus). The optional 'Protezione Bonus' add-on preserves the bonus class despite one at-fault claim per year (not available on temporary policies). An optional 'ULTRA 4R' variant with fixed deductible provides a discount of 10%–50% on the standard Bonus-Malus premium and does not affect the merit class in case of a claim.
