Direct payment

The premium, or first instalment, is due at policy inception. Instalments may be split, including semi-annually. Payment can be made by direct debit authorised by the policyholder on the indicated bank account (which also covers renewals and any adjustments), or through other payment methods made available by the distributing intermediary. Failure to pay an instalment within 20 days of its due date suspends the cover. Note: the 24/7 helpline refers to the UnipolAssistance roadside-assistance operations centre; the Claims Service (Servizio Sinistri) operates Monday-Friday 8:30-18:00.

Geographic scope

National

Cover applies in the Republic of Italy, Vatican City, the Republic of San Marino, all European Union Member States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, the Principality of Monaco, Serbia and Andorra, as well as any other State whose international code on the Green Card certificate is not crossed out.

Unique selling points

  • Optional Arca Motor Box telematic device unlocks a genuine pay-per-km RCA tariff, with the renewal discount calculated on actual mileage driven rather than a flat rate.
  • The Bonus Protetto clause freezes the internal merit class after a first penalising claim, shielding eligible policyholders from an immediate malus increase.
  • An unusually broad set of RCA extensions is included free as standard, covering scenarios many insurers charge for, such as a newly-licensed driver exceeding the permitted vehicle power, an expired vehicle inspection (up to 60 days), and rear passengers without seatbelts fastened.
  • A dedicated package for electric vehicles includes towing to the nearest compatible charging station, cover for the charging cable, and restoration of on-board software after a hacking or ransomware attack.
  • Glass and hail repairs carried out at the specialised UnipolGlass and Dottor Grandine networks are reimbursed with zero deductible, versus a €150 (glass) or 10%/min €250 (hail) excess elsewhere.

€50,000

Optional guarantee paying up to €50,000 for death or permanent disability of the driver of the insured vehicle following an accident connected with its circulation (with a 3% deductible on permanent disability up to 10%). Passenger Accident

No limit stated

Not offered as a distinct personal-accident benefit for passengers; the Infortuni del Conducente guarantee applies exclusively to the driver of the insured vehicle. Liability for personal injury to transported persons is instead covered under the mandatory RCA guarantee (RC dei trasportati), which is third-party liability, not a passenger-accident indemnity.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

Cover applies in Italy, Vatican City, San Marino, all EU Member States, the United Kingdom, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Monaco, Serbia and Andorra, and in any other Green Card country whose international code on the International Motor Insurance Certificate is not crossed out.

Green card rules

The International Motor Insurance Certificate (ex Carta Verde) is issued automatically and remains valid for the same period as the underlying policy; if the policy ceases or is suspended before its stated expiry, the policyholder must destroy the certificate, failing which the Company may exercise recourse (rivalsa) for sums paid to third parties.

Driver restrictions

The policyholder may choose between three driving formulas: Guida Libera (any driver, subject to law), Guida Esperta (vehicle owner and driver both aged 26+ with a licence held for at least 3 years without suspension/revocation) and Guida Esclusiva (policyholder is the sole permitted driver, only where already in place). If a claim occurs with a non-compliant driver under Guida Esperta/Esclusiva, the Company can claw back up to €1,500, except in cases of proven necessity, use by a repair-shop employee, or theft by a third party.

Claim notification deadline

RCA and other property-damage claims must be reported to the Company within 3 days of the event; claims under the Infortuni del Conducente / Medical Expense guarantees must be reported within 10 days of the accident.

Bonus-malus rules

The contract is assigned a universal CU class (18-class IVASS scale) and an internal 'Classe Arca' scale, which also includes Superbonus classes 1A-7A available to policyholders aged 32 or older with a clean CU class 1. Evolutive rules increase or reduce the class based on the number of penalising claims observed in the observation period. If the 'Bonus Protetto' option is active and specific conditions are met (5-year claim-free history, annual/semi-annual instalments, internal class below 6, and at least one accessory package in force), the internal class is frozen after the first penalising claim in the observation period instead of worsening.

Suspension is capped at 10 months per policy year (11 months for vehicles under Art. 60 of the Codice della Strada, e.g. vintage vehicles), and can be extended with a further formal notice sent at least 10 days (5 days for Art. 60 vehicles) before the current suspension period ends. Suspension is not allowed for temporary policies, ceded contracts, or vehicles circulating for trial/demonstration.

No Tacit Renewal

The contract does not provide for tacit renewal and automatically terminates at its natural expiry; the Company sends a renewal notice at least 30 days before expiry, and keeps the previous guarantees operative for up to 20 days after expiry if a new policy is taken out in that window.
