Prima Assicurazioni
Prima Assicurazioni is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Italy market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Great Lakes participates in the CARD direct compensation convention (arts. 149–150 of the Insurance Code): for eligible two-vehicle collisions in Italy, San Marino and Vatican City the insured person can claim compensation directly from Great Lakes rather than from the at-fault driver's insurer.
Geographic scope
Italy (nationwide)
Valid throughout the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Vatican City, the United Kingdom, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (states not crossed out on the Green Card).
Unique selling points
- Participates in the CARD direct-compensation scheme, letting policyholders claim straight from Great Lakes instead of the at-fault driver's insurer.
- Liability limits can be raised well above the legal minimum, up to a combined €50,000,000 single ceiling for both personal injury and property damage.
- The 'Ripara Prima' option gives a premium discount in exchange for repairing at a network body shop, including a free courtesy car and vehicle pick-up/drop-off service.
- The 'Bonus protetto' add-on lets drivers avoid a malus class increase after a single at-fault claim per observation period.
- Policyholders can suspend the contract free of charge for up to 300 days a year via the online reserved area, instead of paying for unused cover.

Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover is valid throughout the EU, Switzerland, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Monaco, San Marino, Andorra, Vatican City, the United Kingdom, Montenegro, Serbia and Bosnia and Herzegovina (states not crossed out on the Green Card); Legal Protection and Roadside Assistance have their own territorial rules set out in the Conditions of Insurance.
Green card rules
The Green Card is valid for the period for which the premium has been paid and is required for circulation abroad in states outside the EU direct-recognition zone.
Driver restrictions
Three optional driving formulas are available: 'guida libera' (any licensed driver), 'guida esperta' (drivers aged 26+), and 'guida esclusiva' (only the named habitual driver, aged 26+); using a driver outside the chosen formula triggers a right of recourse by the insurer of up to €2,500 for the first claim of the year.
Claim notification deadline
The claim must be reported to the company as soon as possible and in any case within 3 days from when it occurred or from when the policyholder/insured became aware of it.
Bonus-malus rules
The RCA cover is written under a Bonus/Malus tariff system with 26 merit classes (from 1H to 18); premiums decrease in the absence of claims and increase after claims with main or shared liability during the observation period, according to the evolution tables in Annex 1 of the Conditions of Insurance.
