Key conditions

Territorial scope

The insurance is valid in the territory of the Italian Republic, Vatican City, San Marino and EU Member States, and also in the states listed and not crossed out on the international insurance certificate (Green Card).

Green card rules

When driving abroad, MTPL cover operates according to the conditions and limits of each national legislation, without prejudice to broader guarantees provided by the policy. The Green Card is valid for the period stated on it, but the Company guarantees its operability until a new policy takes effect for the same risk, and in any case no later than 24:00 on the 15th day after expiry.

Driver restrictions

Cover does not operate (and the Company exercises a right of recourse) if the driver is unlicensed, if the vehicle is used for driving lessons without a qualified instructor, if the driver holds an expired or invalid licence, in cases of irregular passenger transport, if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or drugs, if the vehicle carries a test plate used unlawfully, or if hire-with-driver is carried out without the required licence; recourse may also be limited or waived under specific optional clauses (e.g., Rinuncia alla rivalsa, Guida Esclusiva/Esperta).

Claim notification deadline

The insured must present a claim notification promptly to the Agency (using the 'constatazione amichevole' form) or to the Company by registered letter; no fixed number of days is specified in the policy documents, but omission, inaccuracy or delay in notification may trigger the Company's right of recourse.

Bonus-malus rules

The tariff uses a Bonus/Malus system with 28 merit classes; at each annual renewal the policy is reassigned to a new class based on the number of at-fault or equally-at-fault claims recorded during the observation period, with automatic premium reductions in the absence of claims. Policyholders may also purchase a 'Bonus Protetto' option to avoid a malus increase after a single claim, or exercise the 'riscatto sinistro' facility to repay a claim amount and preserve their merit class.
