Direct payment

Helvetia settles claims directly with its network of Carrozzerie Convenzionate and Centri Specializzati Convenzionati so the insured does not have to advance any money; using this network also halves (or, for glass/hail claims, fully waives) the applicable deductible/excess and includes a 2-year warranty on genuine replacement parts.

Geographic scope

Nationwide (Italy)

Valid in the Italian Republic, Vatican City, San Marino, all EEA member states, and additionally Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, the Principality of Monaco, Serbia and Switzerland. Circulation in other Green Card countries requires a paper International Insurance Certificate issued by the Company and payment of the related premium.

Unique selling points

  • Claims settled directly with the Carrozzerie Convenzionate network with no cash advance, a halved deductible/excess, 2-year genuine-parts guarantee and a courtesy car where available.
  • At Centri Specializzati Convenzionati for glass and hail claims, the deductible/excess is fully waived and the glass sum insured is automatically raised from €750 to €1,000.
  • Linea Top legal protection covers criminal defence up to €100,000 per claim if the driver is charged with vehicular homicide or serious/very serious bodily injury — well above standard motor legal-protection limits.
  • Dedicated EV benefits: on-site emergency charging to reach the nearest charging point, a daily standstill indemnity if circulation is barred by authorities, and Car Hacking / personal-data legal protection under Linea Top.
  • Annual policy with no tacit renewal at expiry, giving the customer full control over renegotiating or switching guarantees each year.

Coverage limits

Bodily Injury Liability

Legal Protection (Tutela Legale)

€20,000 – €100,000

Only in Linea Base, Linea Top

Optional add-on (additional premium) managed by ARAG SE, sold in Linea Base or Linea Top. General limit is €20,000 per claim with no annual cap for most benefits (criminal defence, appeal of licence sanctions, dissequestro); under Linea Top the criminal-defence limit rises to €100,000 per claim if the driver is charged with vehicular homicide or serious/very serious bodily injury. Recupero Punti Patente benefits (up to €500/€1,000) are available only bundled with Linea Top.

Green Card / International Insurance Certificate

Conditional

RC cover automatically extends, with no separate Green Card, to all EEA states plus Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Monaco, Serbia and Switzerland. For circulation in other Green Card system countries, the Company must issue a paper International Insurance Certificate (Carta Verde) — digital format is not accepted — the extension must be noted on the policy/appendix, and the related premium must be paid.

Roadside Assistance

€300 – €700

Only in Helvetia Easy Car, Helvetia NoProblem Extra, Helvetia Top Service Più

Optional add-on managed by Europ Assistance Italia S.p.A., 24/7, usable up to 3 times per policy year, sold in one of three formulas: Helvetia Easy Car (roadside towing up to €300/event), Helvetia NoProblem Extra (up to €700/event, plus demolition, replacement car up to 10 days, hotel expenses, repatriation etc.) and Helvetia Top Service Più (adds an immediate 3-day replacement car plus a TOP replacement car for up to 15/40 days depending on the event).

Driver Personal Accident (Infortuni del Conducente)

Optional

Optional add-on covering accidents suffered by the authorised driver while driving, boarding/alighting, loading/unloading, or repairing the vehicle en route. Sums insured (Death, Permanent Disability) are those stated on the policy schedule, subject to a 3% franchise on Permanent Disability; a €775,000 cap applies only if the driver is simultaneously indemnifiable under another Helvetia accident policy for the same event (cumulation cap, not a per-policy sum insured). Optional Diaria/Rimborso spese mediche add-on pays €26/day hospitalisation (max 300 days), €13/day cast immobilisation (max 300 days) and up to €1,000 medical expense reimbursement.

Passenger Accident

No limit stated

The product does not offer a standalone 'Infortuni Passeggeri' accident guarantee (only Infortuni del Conducente for the driver). Bodily injury to passengers on board the insured vehicle is affirmatively indemnified under the mandatory RC Auto section as third-party injury, not as a separate accident benefit, so no distinct sum insured is defined.

Key conditions

Territorial scope

RC Auto is valid in Italy, Vatican City, San Marino, all EEA member states, plus Andorra, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia, Montenegro, Monaco, Serbia and Switzerland (Art. 2.7 of the Condizioni di Assicurazione). Note: the DIP Danni summary (p.5) omits Bosnia and Herzegovina and Montenegro from its shorter list — the full Condizioni di Assicurazione governs.

Green card rules

For countries outside the automatically-covered list, RC cover for those territories is operative only if the Company has issued a paper (not digital) International Insurance Certificate, the extension is noted on the policy or an appendix, and the corresponding premium has been paid.

Driver restrictions

RC does not operate if the driver is not licensed to drive the vehicle type, is driving under the influence of alcohol/drugs (sanctioned under Arts. 186/187 of the Highway Code), or uses the vehicle against the will of whoever legitimately controls it; specific rules also apply to driving-school vehicles and trial-plate vehicles. Optional 'Guida Esperta' restricts cover to drivers aged 26+ (with limited insurer right of recourse otherwise); optional 'Guida Libera' extends cover to any authorised driver regardless of age/licence seniority.

Claim notification deadline

General claims must be notified to the Intermediary or the Company within 3 days of the event or of becoming aware of it (Art. 9.1.1 / Art. 1913 Civil Code); failure may reduce or void the indemnity. For theft or robbery, the Condizioni di Assicurazione (Art. 9.13.1c) require written report to the Judicial/Police Authority within 48 hours of becoming aware of the event — this supersedes the DIP Danni's shorter statement of '3 giorni successivi'.

Bonus-malus rules

Rated on a Bonus/Malus scale of 23 company merit classes (1E to 18, mapped to CU classes 1–18) with reduction/increase applied at renewal based on claims with principal or ≥51% joint responsibility recorded in the relevant observation period; a first policy on a new/transferred vehicle enters class 14 by default, subject to family-bonus, prior-attestation and other portability rules set out in Art. 2.2.
