Direct payment

For medical expenses abroad, Chubb Assistance settles bills directly with the hospital or provider up to the applicable limit, provided it has been contacted in advance; reimbursement to the insured applies only in the cases where direct payment could not be made.

Geographic scope

Available to individuals resident or domiciled in Italy, for single trips originating from Italy

Coverage territory is selected at purchase among Zone 1 (Europe/Mediterranean area), Zone 2 (Zone 1 plus most of the rest of the world) and Zone 3 (worldwide, including the Americas, Oceania and remote Asia); the policy is void for trips to, through or in Iran, Syria, North Korea, Sudan, Cuba and Crimea, and cruises are excluded from cover.

Cover extends to a defined list of recreational and sports activities (e.g. diving to 18m with a qualified instructor, motorcycling up to 125cc with helmet and valid licence, dry-slope and water skiing) provided they are not practised against medical advice, are not the main purpose of the trip, use the required technical equipment, and are not carried out professionally or in competitions.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact Chubb Assistance before taking any personal initiative, in order to request travel assistance or to open a medical expenses claim (hospitalisation, medical/specialist visits, tests, or medical repatriation).

Unauthorized treatment

If Chubb Assistance has not been contacted in advance, Chubb may reject the claim or reduce the indemnity payable.

Purchase while abroad

The policy must be purchased online by an adult who is physically present in Italy, by 24:00 of the day before the coverage start date; it cannot be purchased once the insured is already travelling abroad.

Chronic conditions

Chronic or pre-existing conditions known to the insured are excluded, unless they concern a pathologically stabilised pre-existing illness underlying a covered sudden illness.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications are covered as a sudden illness only if certified by a doctor or obstetric specialist; for travel between the 28th and 35th week of pregnancy, a medical fitness-to-travel certificate obtained no more than 5 days before departure is required.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing medical conditions known to the insured at the time of policy purchase are not covered.

Coverage duration limit

Each single trip is covered for a maximum of 30 days including the return journey; medical expenses linked to hospitalisation are covered for a maximum of 100 days of hospital stay.
