Direct payment

The annual premium is paid in a single instalment to the agency to which the policy is assigned, via cash (up to €750), POS, bank/postal transfer, non-transferable bank/postal cheque, or direct debit (SDD); other electronic payment methods offered by the banking/postal system may also be used.

Geographic scope

Italy, Europe, or Worldwide — three territorial options selectable at policy inception

Italy zone covers Italy, San Marino and Vatican City; Europe zone covers all European countries plus Mediterranean-basin countries (Algeria, Cyprus, Egypt, Canary Islands, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Madeira, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia, Turkey); Worldwide zone excludes a list of specific territories (e.g. Afghanistan, Antarctica, Somalia, Falkland Islands, and others). Under the EASY liability formula, cover excludes the USA and Canada; the TOP formula extends worldwide liability cover to include the USA and Canada.

Unique selling points

  • 24/7 emergency assistance activatable with a single phone call to Europ Assistance, covering medical dispatch, repatriation and legal/financial advances.
  • Optional extension raises the medical-expenses sum insured to €80,000 specifically for claims occurring in the USA or Canada.
  • The TOP formula extends civil liability cover worldwide including the USA and Canada, unlike the base EASY formula.
  • A single policy bundles medical expense reimbursement, 24/7 assistance, accident, civil liability, baggage and trip-cancellation protection.

Dispatch of a doctor or ambulance in Italy

Source

Pre-existing / chronic conditions

Excluded

Claims deriving from illnesses that are the expression or direct consequence of chronic or pre-existing pathological conditions predating policy subscription are excluded across all sections.

Source

Winter sports cover

Conditional

Under the Medical Expenses Reimbursement section, ordinary recreational skiing is not on the exclusion list and is therefore covered; only extreme winter-sport variants are excluded (ski-mountaineering, acrobatic skiing, extreme ski/snowboard, ski/water-ski jumping, sledge-driving, mountaineering/ice climbing above grade 3). Under the separate Accident (Infortuni) section, however, 'sci in genere' (skiing in general) is explicitly on the list of excluded sporting activities, so accident benefits (death/permanent disability) do not apply to skiing injuries.

Source

Adventure / high-risk sports cover

Excluded

Assistance and medical-expenses benefits do not apply to accidents arising from mountaineering/ice-climbing above grade 3, free climbing, whitewater descents above grade 3, caving, ski/water-ski jumping, ski-mountaineering, kite-surf, snow-kite, acrobatic skiing, extreme ski/snowboard, scuba diving, skydiving and aerial sports in general, nor to injuries from motor racing or professional sporting activity.

Pregnancy complications

Conditional

Assistance and medical-expenses cover applies to pregnancy-related conditions only up to the 26th week of gestation; illnesses/treatment connected with pregnancy beyond the 26th week and with the puerperium are excluded.

Source

Personal liability

Covered

Indemnifies the insured for amounts they are legally liable to pay for accidental death, injury or property damage caused to third parties during private-life travel, up to the policy's stated sum insured. A €100 deductible applies per property-damage claim. Under formula EASY, cover excludes the USA and Canada; under formula TOP, cover is worldwide including the USA and Canada, with a €1,000 deductible for claims occurring there and exclusion of punitive damages.

Referral of a lawyer abroad / legal expense advance

€5,000

If arrested or threatened with arrest abroad, the Organisational Structure provides a lawyer and advances legal fees up to €5,000 (or more, subject to adequate guarantees being provided in Italy). The Responsabilità Civile section also includes management of out-of-court and court disputes, with the insurer appointing lawyers and technical experts.

24/7 assistance helpline

Covered

The Organisational Structure (Europ Assistance Service S.p.A.) operates 24 hours a day, every day, to receive requests and deliver assistance services (medical consultations, doctor/ambulance dispatch, repatriation, legal/financial advances, etc.); the online health-guidance service operates weekdays 9am–6pm only.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the Organisational Structure (Europ Assistance) by phone before taking any independent action; for medical-expense claims, the hospitalisation or first-aid treatment must be reported as soon as possible and no later than 60 days from the event.

Unauthorized treatment

Failure to comply with claim-notification obligations (e.g. the 60-day deadline for medical expenses, 24-hour/10-day rules for baggage, or the 3/5-day deadlines for accident/liability claims) may result in total or partial loss of the right to indemnity under art. 1915 of the Italian Civil Code.

Purchase while abroad

The policy defines the 'Assicurato' as a person resident in Italy on whose behalf the insurance is provided; the documents reviewed do not describe a purchase flow for someone already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Claims deriving from illnesses that are the expression or direct consequence of chronic pathological conditions pre-dating the policy subscription are excluded across all sections.

Pregnancy

Cover applies to pregnancy-related conditions only up to the 26th week of gestation; illnesses connected with pregnancy beyond the 26th week and with the puerperium are excluded from all sections.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

'Malattia preesistente' is defined as an illness that is the expression or direct consequence of a chronic or pre-existing pathological condition, and such conditions are excluded from cover.

Coverage duration limit

Claims occurring after the 100th consecutive day of the insured's stay abroad are not covered, unless the optional clause AS07 (extension beyond 100 continuous days) has been purchased. Overall policy duration is a maximum of one year for the individual tariff and 30 days for the group tariff (for travel-cover sections without cancellation cover).
