Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The Assicurato must always and preventively contact the UnipolAssistance Centrale Operativa (tel. +39 011 6523211), active 24/7, before obtaining any Assistenza in Viaggio service or hospital medical-expense direct payment; for Infortuni del viaggiatore/Infortuni durante il volo claims, written notice must be given within 3 days from when the Assicurato had the possibility to do so.

Unauthorized treatment

No reimbursement is granted for Spese Mediche if the Operating Structure was not contacted, unless proven impossibility is demonstrated; in that case reimbursement is capped at the amount that would have been paid had the Structure been regularly contacted. Failure to preventively contact the Structure for any Assistenza in Viaggio request also results in no indemnity being recognized, again absent proven impossibility.

Purchase while abroad

The Condizioni di Assicurazione do not provide for purchasing the policy while the traveller is already abroad; cover under the Assistenza in Viaggio guarantee starts when the Assicurato leaves their Residenza/Domicilio to begin the trip, implying the policy must be taken out before departure.

Chronic conditions

Chronic/recurring pathological conditions predating the policy (Malattie preesistenti) are excluded from the Sezione Protezione Viaggio, except that, within the Annullamento Viaggio section, relapses or flare-ups of such conditions manifesting after the trip-registration date are covered.

Pregnancy

Claims arising from therapeutic abortion, non-premature childbirth or puerperium are excluded from the Sezione Protezione Viaggio; pregnancy-related complications arising before the guarantee's start date are also excluded from the Annullamento Viaggio section.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing illnesses are excluded from the base Sezione Protezione Viaggio guarantees (medical expenses, assistance, baggage); the Annullamento Viaggio section makes a specific exception for relapses/flare-ups occurring after trip registration.

Coverage duration limit

The policy covers a single trip of no more than 100 days for tourism, study or business purposes; the maximum insurable age is 80 years at the time the policy is taken out; hospital medical-expense cover (Spese mediche) operates for a maximum of 60 days of hospitalization or Day Hospital per claim.
