Balcia Insurance SE, Lithuanian Branch
Balcia
Balcia is a motor casco insurance for the Lithuania market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurer normally pays repair costs directly to an agreed repair workshop, calculated so the vehicle is restored to its pre-loss condition; if a cash payout is chosen instead, it is calculated and paid without VAT and similar taxes, except when vehicle parts were stolen, in which case only repair/replacement costs against a pre-agreed estimate are reimbursed and cash payout is not available. The customer may also choose their own repair workshop, with the payout transferred directly to that workshop after the deductible is subtracted.
Geographic scope
Europe
Coverage applies in Lithuania and/or the geographic Europe area as defined in the policy (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and a listed set of other European countries), depending on the territorial option chosen in the insurance contract.
Unique selling points
- Premiums are calculated using an AI-based tool that factors in individual driving data, so safer driving can lower the price.
- Customers can freely choose their own repair workshop, including an official dealer, and still receive a payout up to 30% above the insurer's own repair estimate.
- No deduction for parts depreciation when a vehicle up to 5 years old is repaired at an authorised workshop.
- A replacement vehicle is provided for the entire repair period in Lithuania, not just a fixed number of days.
- 24/7 roadside assistance across Lithuania and Europe is built into the base KASKO product at no extra charge.
Coverage limits
Own damage (accidental damage/destruction)
Covered
No limit stated
Covers losses if the vehicle or its additional equipment is damaged or destroyed in a sudden and unexpected event; the payable sum is based on the vehicle's market value or new value at the time of the loss, as chosen in the contract, not a fixed monetary limit.
Total loss / destruction
Covered
No limit stated
The vehicle is deemed destroyed (sunaikinimas) when repair costs exceed 75% of its market value on the date of loss; the payout equals the agreed sum insured (market value or new value) less the value of any salvage, not a separate fixed limit.
Partial damage / repair
Covered
No limit stated
Covers repairable damage caused by fire, smoke, extinguishing, natural perils, third-party wilful acts and other sudden unexpected events; repair costs are calculated so the vehicle returns to its pre-loss condition, minus the deductible.
Theft / robbery
Covered
No limit stated
Covers unlawful covert or open taking of the vehicle, including by force or threat of force; if only vehicle parts (not additional equipment) are stolen, no cash payout is possible - only direct repair/part-replacement costs per an agreed estimate are reimbursed.
Glass breakage
Covered
No limit stated
Damage to windows, sunroof, panoramic roof, mirrors or lights is compensated if it is the only damage from the event; no deductible is applied if the glass is replaced or repaired at the insurer's designated workshop.
Natural perils (storm, flood, lightning, hail)
Covered
No limit stated
Damage caused by storms, floods, lightning and hail, including objects falling as a result of these events, is covered as part of the base KASKO damage cover.
Third-party wilful acts (vandalism)
Covered
No limit stated
Covers damage to the vehicle caused by wilful acts of third parties intended to damage or destroy it.
24/7 roadside assistance
Covered
No limit stated
Included as standard within the KASKO product for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes (vehicle start-up, tyre/spare-wheel help, fuel delivery up to 10 litres for the whole policy period, EV towing to a charging point, recovery, one-off transport, up to 5 days of storage, hotel/onward transport, spare key delivery or emergency unlocking); a reduced set of benefits (recovery, one-off transport, storage up to 5 days, hotel/onward transport) also applies to vehicles over 3.5 tonnes. No single overall monetary limit for the roadside package is stated in the current terms - individual sub-limits (e.g. fuel litres, storage days) apply as described.
Replacement vehicle
Conditional
No limit stated
A replacement vehicle (up to medium class) is provided if the insured vehicle becomes unfit to drive due to an insured event or mechanical failure and repairs take longer than one day, on condition the repair is carried out at a workshop agreed with the insurer. It is provided for the whole repair period in Lithuania, or up to 30 days for the whole policy period abroad or in case of total loss/theft; it is not provided if a cash payout is chosen instead of repair, or after the insurance contract has ended (unless renewed).
Driver and passenger accident insurance
Optional
No limit stated
Covers bodily injury, medical expenses, disability or death of persons in the insured vehicle due to a traffic accident; the sum insured per person is set in the contract based on the number of seats. Per the product information document, this cover can be selected additionally or may apply automatically depending on the contract, so availability is contract-specific rather than automatically part of every policy.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
If the vehicle was driven by someone younger or with less driving experience than the minimum set in the insurance contract, the insurer may reduce the payout by 50%; for the first such event, the full payout is made without the 50% reduction, but a EUR 500 higher deductible is applied instead.
Repair network requirements
The vehicle can be repaired at the insurer's agreed workshop (cashless settlement) or at a workshop chosen by the client, including an official dealer; if the client's own workshop is used, the payout (minus the deductible) is transferred directly to that workshop and may be up to 30% higher than the insurer's own repair estimate, unless the contract states otherwise.
Territorial scope
Cover applies either in Lithuania only or in the geographic Europe area (Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia and other listed European countries), as chosen and stated in the insurance contract.
Anti-theft requirements
The insured vehicle must be fitted with the security/anti-theft systems required by the insurer (or equivalent) for the whole policy period; in case of theft, the policyholder must be able to provide all keys, remote controls and documents confirming the required security system was in place, otherwise the payout may be reduced.
Claim notification deadline
According to the current terms and conditions, an insured event must be reported within 5 working days of becoming aware of it, and theft of the vehicle within 1 working day. Note: the product information document (IPID) states shorter periods (3 working days / 48 hours for theft), but that document explicitly does not reflect the specific contract terms, so the terms and conditions govern.
Deductible rules
A deductible set in the insurance contract is subtracted from every claim payout. No deductible is applied when: a third party is at fault and the damage is covered under MTPL liability insurance; vehicle keys were stolen/damaged or personal belongings were stolen; damage resulted from a collision with an animal; a body dent is repaired without repainting; or glass is replaced/repaired at the insurer's designated workshop.
