Key conditions

territorial_scope

Standard MTPL coverage is valid in all European Economic Area (EEA) member states and Switzerland. For travel to other Green Card system countries outside the EEA, LD issues a Green Card upon request. Damage caused in other Green Card system countries is compensated according to the insured amounts set in that country's legislation. If damage occurs in another EEA state or Switzerland and the Lithuanian statutory limits are higher, the Lithuanian limits apply.

green_card_rules

The Green Card is an international insurance certificate issued by LD upon the policyholder's request for travel outside the EEA. It is valid and provides coverage in the countries listed on the card. Standard EEA coverage does not require a Green Card. The Green Card system currently covers countries including Ukraine, Moldova, Turkey, Serbia, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Montenegro, and others listed under the international Green Card system.

driver_restrictions

No named driver restrictions apply to MTPL; all persons operating the insured vehicle with the owner's consent are covered. Policyholders may optionally indicate whether drivers under 25 years of age or with less than 2 years of driving experience will drive the vehicle, which may affect the premium. Recovery rights exist against the at-fault driver in cases of intoxication, driving without valid licence, fleeing the scene, intentional damage, or breach of material contract conditions.

claim_notification_deadline

In prescribed cases under Traffic Rules, the accident must be reported to police immediately. The policyholder must notify their own insurer in writing within 3 business days if at fault, or notify the at-fault party's insurer within 3 business days if injured. Full explanations and documentation must be submitted within 5 business days. Failure to comply may result in the insurer claiming recovery of up to 20% of benefits paid. Electronic accident declaration is available at draudimoivykiai.lt.

bonus_malus_rules

Lithuania uses a Bonus-Malus (BM) class system for MTPL pricing. New drivers start at class 3. Each claim-free year advances the driver one class upward (towards class 14), reducing the premium by up to approximately 50%. Each at-fault claim reduces the class. Each insurer applies its own actuarial methodology; individual BM classes and premium adjustments are set by each insurer based on driving history.
