Coverage limits
Medical expenses (emergency treatment abroad)
Covered
Covers necessary and justified medical costs incurred due to unexpected acute illness or accident during travel abroad, including outpatient and inpatient treatment, prescribed medications, transport to the nearest medical facility and back to temporary accommodation. The insured sum is selected at policy issuance; the T&C define sub-limits for specific items but no universal fixed ceiling — the total is policy-dependent.
Emergency first medical aid (outpatient and inpatient)
Covered
Covers doctor examination and first medical aid provided in outpatient or inpatient facilities, including transport to the nearest medical facility and back to temporary accommodation abroad. Covered up to the policy insured sum. In the USA, the insured must use insurer- or assistance-partner-designated facilities.
Hospitalization (inpatient treatment)
Covered
Inpatient treatment costs are covered as part of the medical expenses insurance up to the policy insured sum. The insurer may arrange transport of the insured to their home country for further inpatient treatment if treatment abroad would be significantly more expensive. Luxury ward extras (private room, TV, phone, air conditioning) are not covered.
Outpatient treatment
Covered
Outpatient medical care including doctor examination, prescribed medications, and dressings is covered up to the policy insured sum. The insured must use public health system facilities where possible.
Emergency dental treatment
Covered
Covers the cost of dental treatment to relieve acute tooth pain (up to EUR 290), provided the acute pain first arose during the current trip.
Medical transport (including repatriation for further treatment)
Covered
Transport to the nearest medical facility and back to temporary accommodation is covered within the insured sum. Repatriation of the insured to their country of permanent residence for further inpatient treatment is covered within the insured sum, subject to prior written agreement with the insurer and written medical justification. For chronic disease acute exacerbation, repatriation transport is limited to EUR 2,000 (combined with emergency first aid for that event).
Medical evacuation
Covered
The insurer may arrange and cover transport of the insured to their country of permanent residence if medically necessary and if treatment abroad would be significantly more expensive than equivalent treatment at home, subject to prior written insurer agreement and written medical justification. Escort costs are also covered under conditions specified in clause 1.2.2.7.1.
Repatriation of mortal remains
Covered
In the event of the insured's death due to an acute illness or accident occurring during the trip, the insurer covers necessary costs of repatriation of remains to the country of last permanent residence, or necessary burial costs abroad (not exceeding the cost of repatriation to Lithuania), up to a maximum of EUR 4,000 for the entire policy period. The necessity of costs must be confirmed by the insurer.
Search and rescue
Covered
Search and rescue operations conducted by rescue services to save the insured's life or health in the event of sudden illness or accident are covered within the policy insured sum, in the territorial scope of the insurance contract.
COVID-19 treatment
Conditional
COVID-19 is not explicitly excluded under the 2026 T&C provided the illness first manifested during the trip (qualifies as an acute illness). However, if COVID-19 was declared as an epidemic or pandemic by state authorities before the insured's departure, it is excluded under clause 1.3.1.12. Coverage is therefore conditional on the absence of a pre-departure official declaration.
Pre-existing / chronic conditions (acute exacerbation only)
Conditional
Chronic and congenital diseases and their complications are generally excluded. By exception, if an acute exacerbation of a chronic condition was unforeseeable by standard medical practice, the insurer covers emergency first aid costs to relieve severe pain and/or save the insured's life, plus transport to the country of permanent residence for further inpatient treatment, up to a combined limit of EUR 2,000. Exacerbations of diseases listed in the non-covered events (e.g. epilepsy, diabetes, liver cirrhosis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, oncological diseases, AIDS/HIV) are always excluded.
Winter sports coverage
Optional
Coverage for sporting activities (including skiing/snowboarding on marked slopes) is available as an optional add-on with an additional premium and must be explicitly recorded in the policy. Off-piste skiing is classified as extreme sport and is always excluded regardless of the add-on.
Sports and adventure activities coverage
Optional
Physical work, sporting activities, and some adventure sports can be covered with an additional premium explicitly endorsed on the policy certificate. Extreme sports (alpinism, rock climbing on ice/rock faces, ski mountaineering, bungee jumping, parachuting, boxing, trekking in extreme-climate or desert areas, off-piste skiing) are always excluded and cannot be covered even with an additional premium.
Pregnancy complications
Conditional
Doctor examination and first medical aid costs for pregnancy complications that could not have been anticipated or expected prior to departure are covered up to EUR 250 for the entire policy period, provided that without medical assistance the insured's life would be at risk. Routine pregnancy monitoring, childbirth, termination, and postnatal complications are excluded. Coverage applies only if the complication was unforeseeable before departure.
Legal assistance
Excluded
Legal assistance is not mentioned as a separate coverage in the Compensa travel insurance T&C (effective 2026-01-01). The policy covers personal liability but does not provide a distinct legal expenses or legal assistance benefit.
24/7 assistance service
Covered
Round-the-clock assistance is provided by the insurer's partner OPS LT in any country worldwide. The insured must notify the insurer or its representative as soon as possible, no later than 24 hours after the loss. Phone call costs to the medical facility and/or insurer are reimbursed up to EUR 60.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must notify the insurer or its representative as soon as possible, no later than 24 hours from the date of the loss. If the insured paid costs out of pocket due to circumstances beyond their control, they must report the event no later than 7 days after returning to Lithuania, submitting all supporting documents.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured obtains treatment without contacting the insurer or its representative, and this was avoidable, the insurer may reduce or refuse the claim. If the insured fails to use public health system facilities where available, the insurer may require the insured to be transported (at insurer cost) to a public or insurer-designated facility. Failure to perform duties under the policy may result in reduction or denial of the benefit.
Purchase while abroad
If the insured is already abroad on the date the insurance contract is concluded, the contract takes effect and the insurer's liability begins 14 days after the conclusion date, provided the premium has been duly paid on time.
Chronic conditions
Chronic and congenital diseases and their complications and exacerbations are excluded from coverage. The only exception is an unexpected acute exacerbation (unforeseeable by standard medical practice), for which emergency first aid and repatriation transport are covered up to EUR 2,000 combined. Exacerbations of specifically listed diseases (epilepsy, diabetes mellitus, liver cirrhosis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, oncological diseases, AIDS/HIV, and related conditions) are always excluded.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy monitoring, childbirth, termination, and postnatal complications are excluded. Only unforeseen pregnancy complications where life is at risk are covered up to EUR 250 for the entire policy period.
pre_existing_conditions
Pre-existing conditions are generally excluded. Emergency first aid and repatriation for an unexpected acute exacerbation of a chronic condition are covered up to a combined EUR 2,000, provided the exacerbation could not have been anticipated by standard medical practice. Treatment of specifically enumerated diseases (epilepsy, diabetes, cirrhosis, asthma, multiple sclerosis, cancer, AIDS/HIV, STDs) and prophylactic examinations are always excluded.
coverage_duration_limit
The insurance contract is currently available only for trips not exceeding 30 days. Coverage begins when the insured crosses the Lithuanian border and ends no later than when the insured crosses back into Lithuania. If the insured cannot return due to health reasons, coverage for that condition extends for up to 30 additional days beyond the policy end date.
