Direct payment

The assistance partner (OPS LT / UAB OPS International) coordinates and settles directly with medical providers abroad. If the insured pays for treatment themselves, they must notify the insurer within 24 hours of the event (or within 7 days of returning to Lithuania if contacting the insurer's representative was not possible) and submit proof of the expenses incurred. In the USA the insured must use healthcare facilities designated by the insurer or its assistance partner.

Geographic scope

Selectable territorial scope (e.g. Europe, Worldwide) chosen at policy purchase depending on the travel destination.

Coverage applies to events occurring abroad in the territory specified in the policy, excluding Lithuania, the country of the insured's citizenship, and the country of the insured's permanent residence.

Unique selling points

  • Round-the-clock assistance abroad in any country worldwide via partner OPS LT, coordinating treatment and transport.
  • Free remote doctor consultation available within a few hours of request, in the client's native language.
  • Cover explicitly extends to tick-borne encephalitis, snake bites and animal bites, perils some competitors exclude by default.
  • Policy can be purchased fully online, with the insurance certificate issued and emailed immediately after payment.
  • Search and rescue operation costs are included as part of the core medical/accident cover, with no separate purchase required.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must report a loss to the insurer or its representative without delay, no later than 24 hours from the date the loss occurred, unless the insured paid the covered expenses themselves, in which case they must report the event and provide proof of expenses within 7 days of returning to Lithuania.

Unauthorized treatment

The insured must, where possible, use facilities within the state healthcare system and treatment of the level provided for socially insured persons in that country (in the USA, only facilities designated by the insurer or its assistance partner). Failure to notify the insurer on time, or wilful/grossly negligent breach of contractual duties, entitles the insurer to reduce or refuse the indemnity.

Purchase while abroad

If the insurance contract is concluded while the insured is already abroad, the contract enters into force and the insurer's liability begins 14 days after the date the contract was concluded, provided it was duly paid on time.

Chronic conditions

Diagnosis and treatment of chronic and congenital diseases and their complications/exacerbations are excluded, except for a sudden and unforeseeable acute exacerbation not expected under normal medical practice, for which necessary first-aid treatment and transport home (up to 2,000 EUR) are covered; certain named chronic diseases remain excluded in all cases.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy monitoring, childbirth, termination of pregnancy and postpartum complications are excluded, except for pregnancy complications unforeseeable before departure, which are covered up to 250 EUR for the whole policy period.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

The policy does not cover diagnosis or treatment of chronic or congenital diseases and their complications that existed before the trip, with the sole exception of a sudden, unforeseeable acute exacerbation, as described under the chronic-illness condition.

Coverage duration limit

Cover applies for the trip period stated in the policy schedule, starting when the insured crosses the Lithuanian border outbound and ending when they cross it inbound; if the insured's return is medically impossible, cover automatically extends for 30 days from the last day of the policy's validity for that health condition.
