Direct payment

If the cost of medical services is up to EUR 1000, you pay the clinic yourself and are reimbursed within 30 days after returning home upon submitting the required documents. If the expected cost exceeds EUR 1000, you (or the treating doctor) must contact If in advance, and the benefit is paid directly to the medical facility.

Geographic scope

Worldwide, according to the territorial zone selected in the policy

Cover applies only in the territory stated in the insurance certificate, excluding the insured person's country of permanent residence; regardless of the zone chosen, cover explicitly does not apply in Ukraine, Russia, Belarus or Israel.

Unique selling points

  • Medical treatment costs are compensated even if you are injured in a terrorist act during your trip.
  • Broader protection than the European Health Insurance Card — valid worldwide, not only at public healthcare providers in the EU.
  • Essential medical assistance is always included in every If travel policy; you then add exactly the extra protections you need (trip costs, baggage, liability, rental car excess, home contents, high-risk leisure).
  • Manage your policy and claims anytime through the 'If Mobile Baltics' app, including a digital insurance card for Apple/Google Wallet.
  • Round-the-clock emergency assistance on a single phone number (+370 5 210 8800), reachable at any hour of the day.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

If the expected cost of medical treatment exceeds EUR 1000, you or the treating doctor must contact If before or during treatment so that If can pay the clinic directly; otherwise you may pay yourself and claim reimbursement afterwards.

Unauthorized treatment

If you unjustifiably delay reporting a claim, fail to comply with recommendations, or the documents provided are misleading as to key facts affecting the amount of the benefit, If reduces the benefit by 50%. If provided information is deliberately false, If may declare the contract void.

Purchase while abroad

Medical and accident cover starts no earlier than when you cross the border of your country of permanent residence, so in practice the policy must be purchased and paid before you leave home; it cannot be bought retroactively to cover events that already occurred.

Chronic conditions

Chronic, psychiatric, oncological, sexually transmitted and HIV-related illnesses are excluded regardless of stage, except sudden acute attacks or flare-ups that are life-threatening.

Pregnancy

Routine pregnancy monitoring, childbirth and pregnancy termination are not covered. Only sudden, unforeseen pregnancy complications that arise after the policy started are covered, up to EUR 300 for the whole policy period.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

For trip-cancellation cover, health problems (illness or bodily injury) known and treated (or that should have been treated) within the 6 months before buying the policy or trip are excluded. For medical cover, known or pre-inception illnesses are excluded except sudden life-threatening exacerbations.

Coverage duration limit

Under the multi-trip add-on, cover applies to every foreign trip while the contract is in force, but each individual trip may not exceed 21 days.
