Direct payment

AXA Assistance may advance medical costs incurred abroad directly to the insured or to the care provider; reimbursement of medical expenses is complementary and only covers the shortfall remaining after intervention of Luxembourg social security and any other insurance or provident-fund coverage. If AXA Assistance advances the funds, the insured undertakes to claim reimbursement from social security/other organism within two months of receiving the invoices and to repay AXA Assistance the amounts recovered.

Geographic scope

Worldwide

The Travel option's guarantees (cancellation, luggage, assistance) apply worldwide from the moment the insured leaves their home in Luxembourg; however, medical costs incurred within Luxembourg (the residence zone) are not covered, even if consequent to an accident or illness that occurred abroad.

Unique selling points

  • The Travel option bundles cancellation, luggage, medical expenses and repatriation into a single package that covers the insured and their family worldwide, all year round.
  • AXA Assistance can advance emergency medical costs abroad on the insured's behalf, who then only needs to seek reimbursement from social security after returning home.
  • If luggage is lost or stolen abroad, AXA Assistance organises delivery of a replacement suitcase and covers essential first-necessity purchases.
  • A single 24/7 phone line coordinates medical, legal, luggage and lost-document assistance wherever the insured travels in the world.
  • Includes a distinctive family-protection benefit: repatriation of parents from abroad if a child left at home is hospitalised in Luxembourg.
