Direct payment

NH1816 settles casco claims directly (cashless) with its affiliated repair and glass-repair shops, so the policyholder pays no deductible for those repairs beyond any voluntarily chosen extra excess; using a non-affiliated shop means the policyholder pays the repair bill and reclaims it subject to a €500 (or €75 glass) deductible.

Geographic scope

Netherlands (European territory of the Kingdom)

Valid in the Netherlands and in the countries whose country codes are not struck through on the Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card); 'Netherlands' excludes Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba.

Unique selling points

  • Zero deductible on any casco repair carried out at an NH1816-affiliated repair shop.
  • Free windscreen chip repair via resin injection, with no deductible at all.
  • €30 daily compensation, up to 30 days, if your vehicle is stolen and unavailable.
  • Accessories up to €3,000 are automatically included in the casco cover at no extra premium.
  • Mechanical breakdown abroad is covered by the NH1816 Hulpdienst as long as the vehicle carries casco insurance.

Coverage limits

Own damage (full casco perils)

Conditional

Only in Volledig Casco

Covers damage to or loss of the vehicle caused by a sudden external event, such as collision, overturning, skidding, going off the road or into water, and malicious damage/vandalism (Article 2.1a). This peril set is only included under the 'Volledig Casco' clause; it does not apply under 'Beperkt Casco'. Settlement follows the general valuation rules in Article 5.1 (repair cost or dagwaarde/aanschafwaarde/nieuwwaarde minus residual value) with no separate policy sum insured.

Source

Total loss settlement

Covered

Total loss exists when the vehicle cannot technically be repaired, when repair costs exceed the difference between the applicable day/purchase/new value before the event and the residual value after it, or, under the new-value scheme, when repair costs exceed 2/3 of the guaranteed value. Payout is that pre-loss value minus the residual value; if the new-value/purchase-value scheme applies (private first owners, vehicle under 36 months, max €125,000 incl. VAT/BPM) that value is used instead of day value, otherwise day value applies with no policy cap.

Source

Partial/repairable damage settlement

Covered

Repairable damage is settled by reimbursing repair costs up to the difference between the applicable day/purchase/new value immediately before the event and the residual value after it; a 'new for old' deduction may be applied for wear-prone parts such as batteries, exhausts or tyres (Article 5.1). Repair invoices are only reimbursed if issued by a repair company established in the Netherlands, though necessary emergency repairs performed abroad remain covered.

Theft, joyriding and misappropriation

Covered

Covers joyriding, theft, attempted theft, break-in damage, misappropriation, and theft of parts/accessories (Article 2.2a), included in both Beperkt Casco and Volledig Casco. Cover is conditional on mandatory Kiwa/SCM security systems that vary by vehicle type, catalogue value and age (Article 2.5). A €30-per-day allowance, up to a maximum of 30 days, is paid while the vehicle is unavailable after theft or misappropriation (Article 5.10). Stolen accessories are reimbursed at new value if under 12 months old (against original receipts), otherwise at day value (Article 5.9).

Source

Glass breakage

Conditional

Covers a chip, break or crack in the glass (Article 2.2b), included under both clauses, but only if repaired or replaced by an NH1816-affiliated glass repair shop; if not, the claim is excluded (Article 3). A €75 deductible applies if the glass is replaced; repair by resin injection carries no deductible (Article 4).

Source

Fire, storm and natural disaster

Covered

Covers fire, explosion, short circuit or lightning strike; fire outside the vehicle if damage is a direct result of heat from another burning object; storm (wind force 7+, i.e. at least 14 m/s) that blows the vehicle over or drives objects against it; natural disasters such as earthquake, volcanic eruption, avalanche, flood, hail, tidal wave, landslide or falling rock; collision with a loose animal or bird (direct impact only); an aircraft crash or falling aircraft parts; and sudden external events while the vehicle is being transported by a carrier (Article 2.2c-i). Included under both Beperkt Casco and Volledig Casco.

Source

Vandalism / malicious damage

Conditional

Only in Volledig Casco

Malicious damage/vandalism to the vehicle is covered only under the 'Volledig Casco' clause (Article 2.1a); it is not part of the 'Beperkt Casco' peril set. A vandalism claim does not affect the bonus/malus discount if reported to the police within 14 days of discovery, though it does still count against the policyholder's pure claim-free years (Polismantel 5023, Article 3.3.3).

Source

NH1816 Hulpdienst roadside/travel assistance

Covered

After a covered damage event, the Nh1816 Hulpdienst covers costs of recovering, clearing or guarding the vehicle, transporting it to an address in the Netherlands, and taxi transport for driver/passengers, both in the Netherlands and abroad; a mechanical breakdown abroad is only reimbursed if the vehicle carries casco cover. No deductible applies to hulpverlening costs, though assistance can be limited if costs exceed the vehicle's value (Polismantel 5023, Articles 5.1-5.4).

Source

Replacement/rental vehicle costs

Excluded

Extra costs following a damage event, such as rental car costs, are explicitly excluded except for delivery costs; such costs can be avoided or limited by using an NH1816-affiliated repair shop (Article 2.3). Separately, if the insured vehicle is temporarily replaced by a similar vehicle during its own repair or maintenance, the same casco cover extends to that temporary vehicle, but this is not a paid replacement-car benefit (Article 5.13).

Driver/occupant accident cover

No limit stated

No driver or occupant personal-accident benefit is described within the casco rubriek B(21) or the Polismantel 5023 package conditions provided; such cover would typically require a separate 'Ongevallen Inzittenden' rubriek not included among these sources.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

No general minimum driver age or age-based excess applies to the casco cover itself. However, under the 2toDrive scheme a 17-year-old licence holder may not drive the insured vehicle unaccompanied by a qualified adult chaperone with a valid ID and chaperone pass (Polismantel 5023, Article 2), and drivers licensed for under 5 years face lower alcohol thresholds (0.2‰ blood alcohol / 88 µg/l breath alcohol, versus 0.5‰ / 220 µg/l for other drivers) before a claim is refused (B(21), Article 3).

Repair network requirements

No deductible applies if repairs are carried out by an NH1816-affiliated repair shop; other shops trigger a €500 deductible for general damage (except total loss). Repair estimates must come from a repair company established in the Netherlands, though necessary emergency repairs performed abroad remain covered. Damage exceeding €1,000 incl. VAT, an animal-collision claim, or a claim recoverable from the Motor Vehicle Guarantee Fund requires assessment by an NH1816-appointed expert before repair. Vehicles insured and registered as oldtimers are exempt from the affiliated-shop obligation and its deductible.

Territorial scope

Valid in the Netherlands and in countries whose codes are not struck through on the Green Card; 'Netherlands' excludes the Caribbean parts of the Kingdom (Aruba, Curaçao, Sint Maarten, Bonaire, Sint Eustatius, Saba). Cover is automatically suspended if the vehicle is stationed abroad for more than 6 continuous months (must be reported immediately) or is abroad the entire year, and the policy ends automatically once the policyholder's residence is no longer in the Netherlands.

Anti-theft requirements

Mandatory security devices apply unless the policy schedule states otherwise, based on vehicle type, catalogue value and age (under 36 months). Passenger cars: catalogue value below €80,000 requires Kiwa/SCM class 1 (or factory-fitted equivalent); €80,000-€100,000 requires class 3; €100,000 or more requires class 5. Vans: catalogue value below €60,000 requires class 1; €60,000 or more requires class 3. Certification of maintenance must be produced at the time of theft, or the claim is refused.

Claim notification deadline

There is no single fixed reporting deadline for all casco claims. Break-in, vandalism, theft or hit-and-run must be reported to the police immediately in the municipality where it occurred; theft of the whole vehicle must also be reported immediately to the Stolen Vehicles Notification Desk (AGV) on +31 (0)88 662 82 88. A vandalism claim must be reported to the police within 14 days of discovery to protect the bonus/malus discount. Theft/misappropriation payouts follow 30 days after the police report, once the vehicle's value has been agreed.

Deductible rules

Glass damage: €75 deductible if the glass is replaced, €0 if repaired by resin injection. Other damage: €0 deductible if fully repaired by an NH1816-affiliated repair shop; €500 per claim if not (or not fully) repaired there or if the vehicle is not repaired at all (except total loss); oldtimers are exempt from this €500. A voluntarily chosen extra deductible always applies on top of these amounts, except for glass repair. No deductible applies to roadside-assistance costs or to the €500 lock/immobiliser replacement benefit.
