Direct payment

If repairs are carried out by a repairer affiliated with the SchadeGarant/GlasGarant network, NN pays the repairer directly and the policyholder does not need to advance any money; if a non-affiliated repairer is used, the policyholder receives the payout amount from NN directly and pays the repairer themselves.

Geographic scope

Netherlands (nationwide)

The policy applies in all countries listed on the green card (International Motor Insurance Card) that are not crossed out.

Unique selling points

  • No deductible applies when repairs are carried out through the SchadeGarant/GlasGarant repair network.
  • Damage to charging cables for electric and hybrid cars is insured without any limit as standard.
  • Damage to your own home car charging point is covered if you collide with it.
  • Total-loss payouts are calculated on the ANWB/BOVAG valuation plus a 10% top-up.
  • Standard accessories cover of EUR 2,500 can be extended up to EUR 10,000.

Coverage limits

Own damage

Covered

Covers damage to the policyholder's own car caused by an accident (even if the driver's own fault), fire, storm, hail or lightning, collision with an animal, damage caused by others such as vandalism or joyriding, and burglary/break-in.

Total loss settlement

Covered

If the car is a total loss (technical or economic) or stolen and not recovered, payout is based on the new-value scheme (capped at 110% of the catalogue value stated on the policy schedule, only if the catalogue value is EUR 125,000 incl. VAT or less), or the purchase-value scheme for cars up to 6 years old bought from a dealer (also capped where catalogue value exceeds EUR 125,000 incl. VAT), otherwise the replacement value per the ANWB/BOVAG price list plus 10 percent, minus residual value; no deductible applies unless one is stated on the policy.

Partial damage / repair costs

Covered

Repair costs for covered damage are reimbursed; no deductible if repaired via the SchadeGarant/GlasGarant network (unless a voluntary deductible is chosen), otherwise a deductible of EUR 150 (glass) or EUR 400 (all other damage and glass replacement) applies, plus any voluntary deductible.

Theft

Covered

Theft of the car or its parts is covered; after a police report, NN has 20 days to trace/recover the car, after which the policyholder can choose to take the recovered car back or receive the total-loss payout; cover for theft/joyriding can be voided if required security/anti-theft measures were not met.

Source

Glass damage

Covered

Breakage or damage to the car's glass (cracks, chips and pitting, but not scratches) is covered; no deductible via GlasGarant, otherwise a EUR 150 deductible for glass repairs applies.

Source

Weather / natural perils damage

Covered

Damage to the car caused by fire, storm, hail or lightning is covered.

Source

Vandalism / malicious damage

Covered

Damage caused by someone else to the car, for example vandalism or joyriding, is covered.

Assistance after damage

€1,000

After damage (accident, fire, theft, other sudden external danger, wrong fuel), NN arranges a taxi ride within the Netherlands on the day of the damage, reimburses one overnight stay in the Netherlands if the driver cannot travel home, covers the cost of ordering/sending parts needed for repair abroad (repair costs themselves are not covered but can be advanced, with a deposit required above EUR 700), and reimburses up to three overnight stays abroad capped at EUR 1,000 for all insured persons combined.

Source

Replacement vehicle

€1,250

If the car is repaired via SchadeGarant and is a total loss, a replacement car is provided for up to 5 calendar days (extendable to a maximum of 14 days only if stated on the policy schedule). If the car is stolen, the policyholder can choose during the 20-day search period between a replacement car or a daily allowance of EUR 35 capped at EUR 700 (20 days); a EUR 250 deposit applies for a replacement car. If repairs abroad take longer than 2 working days during a holiday, rental car costs are reimbursed up to EUR 1,250 per event until the end of the original holiday.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The policy conditions for Motor Casco personenauto do not state a specific minimum driver age or experience requirement; cover applies to the policyholder and to any owner/holder using the insured car.

Repair network requirements

Repairing via a SchadeGarant/GlasGarant-affiliated repairer gives no deductible (unless a voluntary deductible applies), a replacement car during repair, direct payment to the repairer, and brand or FOCWA warranty; using a non-affiliated repairer or not repairing at all means a EUR 150 (glass) or EUR 400 (other damage/glass replacement) deductible plus any voluntary deductible, and the payout is made directly to the policyholder.

Territorial scope

The policy applies in all countries listed on the green card (International Motor Insurance Card) that are not crossed out.

Anti-theft requirements

If the policy schedule states that full cover against theft and joyriding requires specific security/prevention measures, failing to comply allows NN to refuse payment for theft or joyriding damage, and also for any other otherwise-covered event occurring after the theft or joyriding.

Claim notification deadline

Theft or vandalism must be reported to the police immediately; damage must be reported to NN as soon as possible by phone or via nn.nl. Separately, changes such as selling the car, buying another car, a licence plate change, or theft/embezzlement/seizure must be reported within two weeks, while other risk changes (different use, moving, another regular driver, different annual mileage) must be reported within two months.

Deductible rules

No deductible applies when repairs are carried out via the SchadeGarant/GlasGarant network (unless a voluntary deductible is chosen). Using a non-affiliated repairer results in a deductible of EUR 150 for glass repairs and EUR 400 for all other damage and glass replacement, plus any voluntary deductible added on top. Policyholders can choose a voluntary deductible of EUR 0, EUR 150, EUR 300, EUR 600 or EUR 1,200.
