Achmea B.V.
Avéro Achmea
Avéro Achmea is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
The insurer leads the claims settlement and may pay the other party directly, but only does so when it is certain that it is obliged to pay that party.
Geographic scope
Netherlands
Coverage applies in all countries listed on the Green Card, according to the laws and rules of that country. Countries crossed out on the Green Card are not covered.
Unique selling points
- Liability sums insured of €6,500,000 for personal injury and €2,500,000 for property damage, well above the statutory minimums.
- Even the basic WA (liability-only) policy includes breakdown and accident assistance in the Netherlands and abroad, not just casco tiers.
- Bail/bond costs abroad are covered up to €100,000 per event if the car is seized or an insured is detained.
- Liability for a comparable replacement car is automatically covered for up to 30 days while the insured car is being repaired, serviced or inspected.
- The insurer takes full control of legal defence against an insured, including choosing the lawyer and determining the position taken in court.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability
€6,500,000
Damage to other persons (injury, physical or psychological, and death) caused by the insured car is covered up to €6,500,000 per event; the exact insured sum is stated on the insurance certificate.
Property damage liability
€2,500,000
Damage to other people's property (other vehicles, loose belongings, real estate, animals) caused by the insured car is covered up to €2,500,000 per event.
Legal defence costs
Covered
Costs of a court case brought against an insured person, and amounts an insured is ordered to pay by a judge, are covered; the insurer leads the case, chooses the lawyer and determines the position taken. No separate monetary cap is stated in the terms.
Green Card / international coverage
Covered
The policy is valid in all countries listed on the Green Card, following that country's own laws and rules; countries crossed out on the Green Card are excluded.
Breakdown and accident assistance (NL and abroad)
Conditional
Assistance is included only when the car is undrivable due to fire, theft, accident or another sudden external event, or the driver cannot drive due to sudden illness and no one else present may drive; the insured must call the insurer's alarm centre. Covers emergency roadside repair (labour only, max €200 for shipping replacement parts), towing, transport of car/driver/passengers, a replacement driver, and overnight stays (max €75 per person per night) while the car is repaired abroad; repatriation to the Netherlands applies only if repair abroad takes more than 48 hours.
Driver personal accident
Excluded
Damage to the driver, and to the driver's own belongings or animals, is explicitly excluded from this WA (third-party liability only) policy.
Passenger accident / injury
Covered
Passengers are insured persons and are treated as third parties relative to the driver; injury or death of passengers is covered under the general bodily injury liability limit (up to €6,500,000), with no separate passenger accident sum insured under this WA policy. A dedicated passenger accident sum can be added via a separate Schadeverzekering Inzittenden policy.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Valid in all Green Card countries per the local laws of that country; any country crossed out on the Green Card is excluded from cover.
Green card rules
The Green Card lists the countries where the policy is valid; coverage in each listed country follows that country's own laws and regulations.
Driver restrictions
The driver must hold a valid driving licence and be legally permitted to drive; coverage is excluded if the driver has no valid licence, is banned from driving by law, court or the car's owner, does not meet 2toDrive rules, has used alcohol/drugs/medicines above the legal limit or affecting driving ability, refuses a breath/saliva/blood test, displays very dangerous driving behaviour (e.g. using a phone while driving), or leaves the scene of an accident to the insurer's detriment. Racing, speed trials and circuit driving (e.g. Nürburgring) are excluded, except skill training given by a Wrm-licensed instructor.
Claim notification deadline
Contact your advisor as soon as possible after a loss; the terms do not specify a fixed number of days.
Bonus-malus rules
The policy uses a bonus-malus system: no claims in a policy year add 1 claim-free year and raise the bonus-malus level (higher discount); paid claims reduce claim-free years and lower the bonus-malus level (lower discount or a surcharge), per the tables in the policy annexes. Claim-free years are reported to the shared Roy-Data database used by all insurers.
