Allianz Direct Versicherungs-AG, Dutch branch
Allianz Direct
Allianz Direct is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
For own-vehicle repair claims, Allianz Direct settles directly with its affiliated repair network (Topherstel); invoices go straight to Allianz Direct, so policyholders normally do not need to pay upfront when using a network repairer. Choosing a non-network repairer results in a fixed deduction from the payout that must be paid directly to that repairer.
Geographic scope
Netherlands
Cover applies in the countries printed on the Green Card that are not crossed out, typically all of Europe plus Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
Unique selling points
- EUR 0 standard deductible on the mandatory third-party liability (WA) cover.
- 24/7 alarm centre handling claims from A to Z via phone and digital channels.
- Nationwide Topherstel repair network offering a 4-year guarantee on repairs and factory-standard workmanship.
- Daily online cancellation, plus the option to pause the policy for up to 6 months per year.
- Included thuisbrengservice after an accident, transporting driver, passengers and the vehicle home, including repatriation from abroad if repair abroad takes longer than 10 working days.
Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
€6,100,000
Covers injury to third parties caused by or with the insured vehicle, up to a maximum of EUR 6,100,000 per event; if Dutch WAM law requires a higher statutory amount, that higher amount applies instead. Later editions of the terms (03.1, 04) state the applicable maximum is shown on the policy schedule rather than restating a fixed contractual figure.
Property Damage Liability
€2,500,000
Covers damage to property of third parties (including other vehicles) caused by or with the insured vehicle, up to a maximum of EUR 2,500,000 per event; a higher statutory WAM amount, if applicable, prevails.
Legal Assistance for Liability Claims
Covered
If the policyholder is held liable for an event covered by this policy, Allianz Direct assists in handling the claim; no separate monetary maximum is stated for this assistance within the WA/MTPL policy. Broader legal-expenses cover for disputes (e.g. criminal/traffic proceedings, recovering damages from a third party) is only available via the separate optional (Verkeers)Rechtsbijstand add-on, which is not part of the base WA product.
Green Card / International Motor Insurance Card
Covered
An International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card) is provided automatically with the policy. Cover extends to the countries printed on the card that are not crossed out, generally Europe plus Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
Roadside / Breakdown Assistance
Optional
Included as standard: after a covered accident, Allianz Direct arranges recovery of the vehicle and transport of the driver/passengers home (the 'thuisbrengservice'), including repatriation from abroad if the car cannot be repaired within 10 working days. Genuine breakdown assistance (mechanical/electrical failure, flat tyre, empty fuel tank, lost keys, flat battery) is explicitly excluded from the WA policy itself ('Pechhulp: Niet verzekerd') but can be added via the separate optional Pechhulp Verzekering.
Driver Accident Cover
€1,000,000
Not included under WA itself, since injury to the driver and damage to their belongings is explicitly excluded. Available as an optional add-on (Inzittendenverzekering), covering injury and belongings damage to the driver up to EUR 1,000,000 per event, shared with passengers if total claims exceed this amount; occupants not wearing a seatbelt receive 25% less compensation.
Passenger Accident Cover
Conditional
Included under WA only when the driver of the insured car is at fault for the accident; passenger injury is then paid within the overall bodily-injury liability limit, with no separate sub-limit stated. If the driver is not at fault, passengers are not covered under WA and must rely on the optional Inzittendenverzekering (up to EUR 1,000,000) instead.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Cover applies in the countries printed on the Green Card that are not crossed out, generally covering Europe plus Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
Green card rules
A Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card) is issued automatically with the policy; only the countries printed on it that are not crossed out are covered.
Driver restrictions
The driver must hold a valid driving licence appropriate to the vehicle and must not have used more alcohol, drugs or medication than legally permitted. Use of the car for racing, rental, driving lessons, courier services or paid passenger/business transport is excluded from cover.
Claim notification deadline
Damage must be reported as soon as possible; under the current (05/2025) terms, claims must be reported no later than 3 years after the policyholder became aware of the damage.
Bonus-malus rules
No-claims years earn a premium discount already processed in the premium. Each paid claim (other than a recoverable claim or a Beperkt Casco claim) reduces the no-claims year count by 5, while a claim-free year adds 1. For discount purposes, Dutch insurers apply a scale from a minimum of -5 to a maximum of 15 years; actual no-claims years are verified via the national Roy-data register.
