ANWB B.V. (Royal Dutch Touring Club ANWB)
ANWB
ANWB is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
ANWB has the right to settle claims directly with injured third parties and to negotiate and conclude settlements with them on behalf of the policyholder under the mandatory liability cover.
Geographic scope
Netherlands
Coverage applies in the Netherlands and in the countries shown on the Green Card (international motor insurance card) that have not been crossed out.
Unique selling points
- €0 deductible applies to the mandatory liability (WA) cover for every claim event.
- 24/7 access to the ANWB Alarmcentrale and Wegenwacht network for roadside assistance in the Netherlands and abroad.
- Policyholders can build up to 80% no-claim discount by driving accident-free.
- ANWB settles claims directly with injured third parties, sparing policyholders from having to negotiate compensation themselves.
- A waiting/security deposit of up to €100,000 is advanced if authorities require bail after a traffic accident involving the insured car.
Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability

No limit stated
ANWB pays, per claim event and for all insureds together, up to the amount for personal injury stated on the policy schedule (polisblad), or a higher amount if legally required.
Property damage liability
Covered
No limit stated
ANWB pays, per claim event and for all insureds together, up to the amount for property damage stated on the policy schedule (polisblad), or a higher amount if legally required.
Traffic legal assistance (Verkeersrechtsbijstand)
€50,000
Only in Verkeersrechtsbijstand
Optional add-on providing legal assistance for traffic-related disputes (recourse, criminal defence, contract disputes related to the car). ANWB Rechtsbijstand reimburses up to €50,000 per claim event in total (€37,500 for group actions), and up to €5,000 for a self-chosen lawyer's fees.
Green Card / international coverage
Covered
The policy is valid in the Netherlands and in the countries listed on the Green Card (international motor insurance card) that are not crossed out; this is a scope-of-cover feature rather than a monetary limit.
Roadside/recovery assistance
Covered
If the car can no longer be driven due to an accident, fire, theft or other external cause, the policyholder is entitled to assistance via the ANWB Alarmcentrale: transport to a destination in the Netherlands (domestic damage), or transport of the car to the nearest garage/to the Netherlands and 2nd-class public transport home (damage abroad), subject to conditions such as repair not being possible within four working days.
Driver accident cover (via Zekerheid voor inzittenden)
€1,000,000
Only in Zekerheid voor inzittenden
The base liability cover explicitly excludes damage to the driver. Personal injury to the driver is only covered under the optional 'Zekerheid voor inzittenden' (occupant protection) add-on, up to €1,000,000 per claim event, shared proportionally among all entitled claimants if the total exceeds that amount.
Passenger accident cover (Zekerheid voor inzittenden)
€1,000,000
Only in Zekerheid voor inzittenden
Optional add-on covering bodily injury and personal-belongings damage of the driver and all passengers up to €1,000,000 per claim event, e.g. in case of a traffic accident, boarding/alighting, loading/unloading, refuelling, or roadside emergency repair.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
The policy covers the Netherlands and the countries shown on the Green Card that are not crossed out; the optional Vervangend Vervoer Europa cover additionally excludes Albania and non-European parts of otherwise-covered countries (e.g. Morocco, Asian Turkey).
Green card rules
The Green Card is the international motor insurance card; the policyholder is only insured in the countries on the card that have not been crossed out.
Driver restrictions
No cover if the driver has no valid licence (unless simply forgot to renew it), is disqualified from driving by law or court order, does not meet the legal requirements for supervised driving (2toDrive), was driving under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medicines, laughing gas or similar substances such that a driving ban would apply, or refused a blood/alcohol test; commercial/business use of the car is also excluded from cover.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported as soon as possible; there is no fixed number of days in the T&Cs, but statutory limitation rules apply and the policyholder has three years to respond if they disagree with a (partial) refusal of a claim.
Bonus-malus rules
The no-claim discount (no-claimkorting) is based on accumulated claim-free years, reaching a maximum of 80% after 15 claim-free years; filing 1, 2, 3 or 4+ claims in a policy year reduces the discount and the number of claim-free years according to a fixed table, though certain claim types (e.g. animal collisions, third-party-paid damage, accessories/replacement-vehicle/occupant/legal-assistance-only claims) do not affect the discount.
