Algemene Zeeuwse Verzekering Maatschappij N.V. (trade name of Goudse Schadeverzekeringen N.V.)
De Zeeuwse
De Zeeuwse is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with no online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
De Zeeuwse has the right to compensate injured third parties (benadeelden) directly.
Geographic scope
Southwest Netherlands (De Zeeuwse operates as a regional insurer primarily serving this area through local advisors)
Valid in the countries listed on the International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card, formerly 'groene kaart') that have not been struck through
Unique selling points
- No deductible (own risk) applies to the WA liability component, unlike the casco add-ons which carry standard deductibles.
- 24/7 own emergency service (De Zeeuwse Alarmcentrale Verkeer) arranges transport of the driver and all passengers to an address in the Netherlands and vehicle recovery, both domestically and abroad, after an accident.
- A 21-step no-claim bonus ladder offers discounts up to 80%, with an optional Bonusbeschermer to protect that discount after one claim per year.
- Combining two or more policies in the Privé Pakket earns a package discount of up to 10% and automatically includes a complimentary accident (death) benefit at no extra premium.
- As a regional insurer ('de oplossing dichtbij'), De Zeeuwse works exclusively with local insurance advisers in the Southwest Netherlands region for tailored service.
Coverage limits
Bodily Injury Liability
€6,450,000
Covers the policyholder's legal liability for bodily injury caused to third parties with or by the insured vehicle, up to a maximum of €6,450,000 per event.
Property Damage Liability
€2,500,000
Covers the policyholder's legal liability for material/property damage caused to third parties with or by the insured vehicle, up to a maximum of €2,500,000 per event.
Legal Defence and Procedural Costs
Covered
In addition to the insured liability amounts, De Zeeuwse pays statutory interest on the covered claim, the costs of defending against liability claims, and the costs of legal procedures; these may be paid on top of the insured sum, and the insurer decides whether conducting a procedure is necessary. No separate maximum amount is stated for these costs.
International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card)
Covered
The policy is valid in the countries listed on the International Motor Insurance Card (formerly 'green card') issued with the policy, and not struck through on that card; this document also serves as proof of cover and provides the emergency assistance phone number.
Roadside and Accident Assistance
Covered
If the insured vehicle can no longer be driven due to an accident, fire, or other external violence (not breakdown), De Zeeuwse arranges, via its emergency service, transport of the driver and passengers to an address in the Netherlands and the recovery/transport of the damaged vehicle. Abroad, De Zeeuwse also arranges transport of the vehicle to the nearest garage, transport home if repair cannot be completed within 4 working days (subject to cost vs. vehicle value tests), import/destruction of the vehicle if uneconomic to transport, and return travel costs for the driver and passengers in specified cases. No fixed monetary cap is stated for this accident-related assistance; mechanical breakdown (pech) assistance abroad is a separate benefit only available under Volledig casco, not under WA.
Driver's Own Bodily Injury (Liability Basis)
Excluded
Liability for bodily injury to the driver of the insured vehicle is excluded from the WA liability cover. As a carve-back, this damage is nonetheless covered to the extent the driver has no right to compensation, benefit, or provision by any other means (e.g. no other insurance or scheme applies). A dedicated no-fault driver accident benefit is only available via the optional Ongevallenverzekering inzittenden add-on.
Passenger/Occupant Accident Benefit
Optional
Liability-based bodily injury claims by passengers as injured third parties are already covered under bodily injury liability. A separate, no-fault lump-sum benefit for death or permanent disability of vehicle occupants (including the driver) is available only via the optional 'Ongevallenverzekering inzittenden' additional insurance; the insured amount per occupant is stated on the policy schedule.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage is valid in the countries listed on the Internationaal Verzekeringsbewijs (Green Card) issued with the policy, provided the country is not struck through on that document.
Green card rules
The Internationaal Verzekeringsbewijs (Green Card) determines in which countries the policy is valid; countries crossed out on the card are excluded from cover, and the card also carries the emergency assistance phone number to call after an accident abroad.
Driver restrictions
No cover is provided if the driver does not hold a valid driving licence recognised under Dutch law, if driving privileges have been revoked or the licence withdrawn, or if the driver could not safely or lawfully drive due to alcohol, drugs, medication or similar substances, or refused to cooperate with a breath, urine or blood test; an exception applies if the circumstances occurred without the policyholder's knowledge or against their will and no reasonable blame attaches to them.
Claim notification deadline
Damage must be reported to De Zeeuwse as soon as possible; the policyholder must also promptly provide all relevant information and cooperation, and file a police report immediately in cases of theft, attempted theft, vandalism, violent robbery or extortion.
Bonus-malus rules
The WA premium depends on the number of claim-free years, tracked via a 21-step bonus/malus ladder giving a discount of up to 80%; policyholders move up one step per claim-free year, and after four or more claims in one insurance year the policyholder always drops back to step 1. An optional 'Bonusbeschermer' can shield the discount from the impact of one claim per year.
