Green Card / proof of insurance
Covered
The policyholder's proof of insurance (Green Card) is available in the digital insurance folder and can be printed; it determines in which countries the car is insured, including transport between listed countries.
Recovery/assistance after accident, theft or breakdown-related incapacity
Conditional
If the car is damaged so it can no longer be driven (fire, accident, theft, external event) or the driver cannot drive due to illness/accident with no one else able to drive, InShared arranges help/costs both within and outside the Netherlands; general mechanical breakdown assistance ('Pechhulp') is a separate optional add-on.
Driver accident cover (occupant insurance)
€1,500,000
Personal injury/accident cover for the driver is only available as an extra add-on (Schadeverzekering inzittenden, 'extra af te sluiten'), not included in the base WA liability policy; maximum €1,500,000 per claim, shared proportionally among all occupants including the driver.
Passenger accident cover (occupant insurance)
€1,500,000
Personal injury/accident cover for passengers is only available as an extra add-on (Schadeverzekering inzittenden, 'extra af te sluiten'), not included in the base WA liability policy; maximum €1,500,000 per claim, shared proportionally among all occupants.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage applies in the Netherlands, throughout Europe, in all countries bordering the Mediterranean Sea, and in all countries indicated (and not crossed out) on the Green Card; it does not apply in countries crossed out on the Green Card.
Green card rules
The Green Card (proof of insurance) is issued digitally via the policyholder's insurance folder and can be printed; it lists the countries where the vehicle is covered, and crossed-out countries are excluded from cover.
Driver restrictions
The car must be used privately (not for business purposes such as rental, lease, driving lessons, paid transport of people/goods, or client visits); the license plate must be registered to the policyholder or a cohabiting partner; the driver must hold a valid driving licence and must not be under the influence of alcohol, drugs, medication, laughing gas or other intoxicating substances above the legal limit.
Claim notification deadline
Claims must be reported as soon as possible via www.inshared.nl, and the policyholder must do everything reasonably possible to prevent or limit further damage; no fixed number of days is specified for notification.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium depends on a bonus-malus scale from step 1 to step 27, with discounts ranging up to 80% for claim-free years and surcharges for reported claims; a claim-free year moves the policyholder up the scale (more discount) while a year with a claim moves them down (higher premium), based on claim-free years recorded in the Roy-Data register.
