Mintley (insurance brand owned by Independer.nl N.V.; underwritten by Allianz Direct, previously by iptiQ Life S.A. / iptiQ EMEA P&C S.A.)
Mintley
Mintley is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and limited assistance availability.
Direct payment
As a liability (WA) insurance, valid third-party claims are settled directly with the injured third party rather than the policyholder; the insurer also defends the policyholder against unfounded claims (passive legal protection).
Geographic scope
Netherlands
Coverage applies in the countries listed on the Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card); there is no coverage in countries that are suspended or crossed out on the card. If the vehicle is transported by ferry, coverage remains valid as long as the departure and destination points are within the countries listed on the Green Card.
Unique selling points
- Up to 30 days of free replacement vehicle during repairs at one of roughly 650 affiliated repair shops.
- For total loss or theft, the original purchase value (new value or purchase value) is reimbursed for up to 3 years after purchase.
- Zero deductible applies to claims under the WA liability cover and the passenger accident insurance.
- The policy can be cancelled on a daily basis with no notice period required.
- Sistercar clause covers damage between the policyholder's own vehicles, even if insured with different insurers.

Driver accident cover (optional passenger/driver accident insurance)
€1,000,000
Only in Schadeverzekering inzittenden (optioneel)
The WA policy itself excludes injury to the driver; driver accident cover is only available via the optional 'schadeverzekering inzittenden' add-on, covering bodily injury up to €1,000,000 per event. The payout is reduced by 25% if the seatbelt was not worn.
Passenger accident cover (optional passenger/driver accident insurance)
€1,000,000
Only in Schadeverzekering inzittenden (optioneel)
The WA policy itself does not cover injury to occupants in cases of 'force majeure' (e.g. an animal crossing the road); passenger accident cover is only available via the optional 'schadeverzekering inzittenden' add-on, covering bodily injury and belongings up to €1,000,000 per event, shared among occupants if the total damage exceeds this maximum. The payout is reduced by 25% per occupant if the seatbelt was not worn.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
Coverage is valid in the countries listed on the Green Card (International Motor Insurance Card); no coverage applies in countries that are suspended or crossed out on the card. Ferry transport keeps coverage valid provided departure and destination are within Green Card countries.
Green card rules
The policyholder receives an International Motor Insurance Card (Green Card) showing the countries where cover applies; countries can be suspended or crossed out, removing cover for those countries.
Driver restrictions
The policyholder must have a fixed address and be a resident of the Netherlands and be at least 18 years old. Coverage excludes situations where the driver lacks the legally required driving licence, does not meet legal requirements, or is prohibited from driving by court order, and excludes use of the vehicle for commercial or business purposes (e.g. taxi, rental, Uber, car-sharing, driving school, transport).
Claim notification deadline
The policyholder must notify the insurer immediately in the event of a claim.
Bonus-malus rules
The policy uses a no-claims (schadevrije jaren) scale ranging from -5 to +15 years, verified against the national Roy-data register. Each claim paid by the insurer generally reduces the no-claims years by 5 (except limited-casco damage or recoverable claims), while a claim-free year adds 1 year; a detailed step-down table is included in the terms and conditions.
