VvAA (Association of Physician Motorists)
VvAA
VvAA is a motor third-party liability insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
As a Dutch MTPL (WAM) insurer, VvAA is subject to the Wet Aansprakelijkheidsverzekering Motorrijtuigen (WAM), under which injured third parties (benadeelden) have a direct right of action (eigen recht / directe actie) against the insurer under Article 6 WAM, allowing them to claim compensation directly from VvAA rather than only through the policyholder. Standard Dutch motor liability claims-handling clauses (consistent with market practice VvAA follows) also give the insurer the right to directly compensate injured third parties and settle with them.
Geographic scope
Netherlands
Coverage applies in the countries listed on the Green Card (international motor insurance certificate) that are not struck through; the VvAA WA insurance card lists Europe, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey as the covered area.

Coverage limits
Bodily injury liability (WA)
Covered
No limit stated
The mandatory WAM liability cover (Rubriek A) pays the insured's civil liability for bodily injury caused to third parties with or by the car, up to the sum insured stated on the policy schedule (applies jointly to all insureds per event). If a Green Card country requires a higher statutory minimum, that higher amount automatically becomes the insured sum (Art. 11.3.b). Identical wording in the standard Autoverzekering and Autoverzekering Premium.
Property damage liability (WA)
Covered
No limit stated
The mandatory WAM liability cover (Rubriek A) pays the insured's civil liability for material/property damage caused to third parties with or by the car, up to the sum insured stated on the policy schedule (applies jointly to all insureds per event, combined with bodily injury). No specific euro figure is disclosed in the general terms; it is set on the individual policy schedule. Identical in both tiers.
Legal defence & special costs
Covered
Under Rubriek A (Art. 11.2.3), VvAA covers, without a stated maximum, the legal-assistance costs the insured incurs (with VvAA's consent) in a criminal case, the litigation/defence costs against a liability claim (if VvAA provided or pre-approved the defence), and statutory interest on the compensation. The separate, Premium-exclusive Verhaalservice (Rubriek D) is a distinct optional recovery-cost service capped at €1,000 if the at-fault third party is insolvent — see product_specific_constraints.
Green Card / international motor insurance certificate
Covered
The Green Card lists the countries in which the policy is valid; only the countries not struck through on the card are covered (Art. 3 / 17.2). If a foreign authority demands a security deposit (bail) to lift a vehicle seizure or a travel restriction following a traffic offence, VvAA provides this security up to €50,000 per insured event (Art. 11.2.2).
Roadside assistance / emergency help (Artsen Alarm Service)
Conditional
Basic emergency assistance abroad and in the Netherlands after theft or an accident that immobilises the car is included even with WA-only cover (Art. 7.3), via the 24/7 Artsen Alarm Service (AAS). Assistance for mechanical breakdown ('pech') itself only applies if Rubriek D 'Pechhulp' (standard) or Rubriek E 'Pechhulp uitgebreid' (Premium) is shown on the policy. Premium additionally provides a stand-in driver to bring the car back to the Netherlands and hotel-night cover abroad up to €75 per occupant per night (max €750 per event) — benefits absent from the standard tier.
Occupants' accident insurance (lump sum for death/disability), incl. driver
Optional
No limit stated
Optional Rubriek G (Premium) / Rubriek F (standard) 'Ongevallenverzekering Inzittenden' pays a fixed lump sum, stated on the policy schedule as capital A (death) or capital B (permanent disability, scaled by a Gliedertaxe/AMA percentage), to the driver or any occupant injured in an accident with the car, regardless of fault. Only applies if shown on the policy; the actual capital amounts are not disclosed in the general terms. Also includes ancillary cover for medical costs and damaged clothing/valuables up to €250 per person (max €1,500 per event).
Passenger/occupant damage insurance (SVI), incl. driver
€1,000,000
Optional Rubriek F (Premium) / Rubriek E (standard) 'Schadeverzekering Inzittenden' compensates the actual damage (medical costs, income loss, damaged belongings, pain & suffering) suffered by the driver or any occupant in a car accident, regardless of fault, up to €1,000,000 per event for all insureds combined; minimum €12,500 on death; payout reduced to 75% of the damage amount if the occupant was not wearing a seatbelt. Only applies if shown on the policy.
Key conditions
Territorial scope
The Green Card determines coverage territory; only countries not struck through on the card are covered (Art. 3). The VvAA WA insurance card additionally states coverage in Europe, Israel, Morocco, Tunisia and Turkey.
Green card rules
The insured is covered only in the countries listed on the Green Card (international motor insurance certificate) that are not struck through; the Green Card is required proof of cover when driving abroad.
Driver restrictions
No cover (subject to proof of no-fault knowledge) if the driver is not authorised to drive on public roads or lacks a valid required driving licence; if the car is rented out; during speed/skill contests, record/performance runs, races or off-road recreational driving; if driven by an unauthorised driver; if the WAM or periodic (APK) inspection obligations are not met; if the driver is under the influence of alcohol or an intoxicating/stimulant substance to a degree prohibited by law; or if the driver refuses a breath/urine/blood test.
Claim notification deadline
Events must be reported to VvAA as soon as possible and in any case within 5 working days (Art. 6.2.a). In case of theft, (attempted) burglary, embezzlement or joyriding of the car, a police report must be filed within 24 hours and VvAA must be notified within 72 hours.
Bonus-malus rules
Premium discount is set by a bonus ladder (Tabel 1) running from step 1 (0% discount) to step 18 (82.5% discount); new customers start at step 5 (50%). Claims in Rubriek A (WA) or Rubriek C (full casco) reduce the step for the following year according to the table; certain claims (e.g. glass breakage, driver's own recovery of the loss, no-fault Art. 185 cases) do not count against the discount. The Autoverzekering Premium can add a Levenslange Bonusgarantie: after 5 consecutive years with VvAA Premium and at least 11 no-claims years built up, one claim per year no longer reduces the maximum bonus discount (this guarantee does not exist in the standard Autoverzekering).
