Centraal Beheer (brand of Achmea Schadeverzekeringen N.V. / Achmea Pensioen- en Levensverzekeringen N.V.)
Centraal Beheer
Centraal Beheer is a travel insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Before incurring medical costs abroad, the insured must contact Centraal Beheer's 24/7 alarm centre (+31 (55) 579 79 55) and follow its instructions. Hospital admission must be reported to the alarm centre in advance, or within 1 week if that is not possible. Treatment in a private clinic is only covered if the alarm centre gave prior approval. If another insurance (e.g. the Dutch health insurer) also covers the event, that insurance pays first; Centraal Beheer then pays the amount above that insurer's limit up to the sum insured, excluding any voluntary health-insurance deductible but including the statutory deductible.
Geographic scope
Europe (default) or Worldwide, selectable by the policyholder on the policy schedule
Europe including the Azores, Canary Islands, Cyprus, Madeira and Russia up to the Urals and the Caucasus; also covered outside Europe: Algeria, Egypt, Iceland, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey. Not covered: Bonaire, Sint Eustatius and Saba. Worldwide cover can be chosen instead.
Unique selling points
- Maximum trip length can be extended up to 365 consecutive days, far longer than most competitors' standard limits.
- Workation (combining remote work with travel) is insured as standard, at no extra cost.
- 24/7 alarm centre assistance is included as standard, with unlimited reimbursement of the cost of contacting them.
- 14-day no-questions-asked right of withdrawal after receiving the policy, and no notice period to cancel after the first year.
Coverage limits
Medical expenses abroad
Optional
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Optional add-on module covering extra healthcare costs abroad on top of the standard Dutch healthcare tariff, additional to the mandatory Dutch health insurance. The statutory (mandatory) deductible of the health insurance is reimbursed; the voluntary deductible is not. Only covered if the insured is also insured with a Dutch health insurer, and the need for care arose unexpectedly during the trip.
Emergency medical treatment by a doctor
Optional
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Treatment prescribed by a doctor recognised by the authorities of the country visited is reimbursed at cost, per insured per trip, only during the trip (no follow-up treatment in the Netherlands). Paramedical treatment is not reimbursed.
Hospitalization
Optional
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Hospital nursing/admission costs are reimbursed at cost price, provided the hospital is recognised by the authorities of that country. Crutches, a wheelchair or a brace are reimbursed up to €250; no other aids are reimbursed.
Outpatient examinations, medicines and dressings
Optional
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Examinations prescribed by a doctor or dentist, and medicines or dressing materials they prescribe, are reimbursed at cost price. No fixed maximum amount is stated in the policy for this item.
Emergency dental treatment
€500
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Treatment prescribed by a dentist recognised by the authorities of the country visited is reimbursed up to €500 per insured per trip, only during the trip (no follow-up treatment in the Netherlands). Prescribed emergency solutions such as a temporary crown are reimbursed at the rate of Dutch health insurers.
Transport to/from hospital abroad
Optional
Only in Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251)
Transport to and from a hospital when the insured is ill or has had an accident, and transport to another hospital if medically necessary, is reimbursed at cost price, only during the trip and only abroad.
Medical evacuation / repatriation when ill
Covered
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251)
Included as standard in the mandatory Personenhulp base module: if the insured has medical problems abroad or in the Netherlands, Centraal Beheer arranges and pays the return trip, extra costs of public transport or flights (including for an accompanying dog/cat), necessary extra accommodation costs, hospital-visit travel costs for travel companions, and extra travel/accommodation costs for a person who accompanies/cares for the insured. General per-event caps apply for accommodation (€75/insured/day) and own-vehicle travel (€0.24/km).
Repatriation of remains
Covered
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251)
Included as standard in the mandatory Personenhulp base module: if the insured dies abroad, transport of the body to the Netherlands (including the coffin used) is covered, or alternatively burial/cremation abroad plus travel and up to 3 days' accommodation costs for close family from the Netherlands, capped at the cost that repatriation to the Netherlands would have been.
Search and rescue costs
Covered
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251)
Included as standard in the mandatory Personenhulp base module: costs of search and rescue by, or under the direction of, an official rescue organisation, including transport to civilisation. Medically necessary rescue transport caused by winter/water sports is only covered if the optional Winter- and Watersports extension has been added.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
Not addressed as a distinct coverage item in the Personenhulp or Medische kosten modules. A large-scale epidemic (WHO alarm phase 5+) is mentioned only as an exclusion for cancellation and visa cover, which is a different subtype.
Pre-existing conditions
Excluded
Costs and assistance are excluded if the insured knew, or could have known, before departure that he would need extra help or incur medical costs during the trip, for example because of an existing illness or a trip undertaken specifically to receive treatment.
Winter sports cover
Optional
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251), Medische kosten op reis (DRV-RV-02-251) – uitbreiding Winter- en onderwatersport
Optional 'Winter- and onderwatersport' extension. Covers unforeseen costs of no longer being able to do winter sports (e.g. return flight with plaster cast, extra travel/accommodation costs during hospitalisation) and costs of ski passes, ski/snowboard hire, lessons and pole/boot hire if illness or an accident stops the insured skiing. Off-piste skiing is covered only under supervision of a certified instructor/guide and only if no avalanche warning is in force; competitions/training and a list of 'extreme' winter sports (e.g. heli-skiing, bobsleigh, ski-jumping) are excluded. Medical costs from winter sports are only covered if the separate Medische kosten op reis module is also taken. Langlaufen, ice-skating and snorkelling do not require this extension.
Adventure / diving sports cover
Optional
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251) – uitbreiding Winter- en onderwatersport
Diving ('onderwatersport') is covered under the same optional 'Winter- and onderwatersport' extension as winter sports, covering unforeseen costs from being unable to dive and hire of diving equipment/lessons if illness or an accident stops the insured diving. A defined list of 'extreme' sports/activities is excluded and medical costs still require the separate Medische kosten op reis module.
Pregnancy complications
No limit stated
Not addressed in the Personenhulp or Medische kosten op reis (travel medical) modules. Pregnancy is only mentioned as a ground for trip cancellation cover (Annulering), which is a different product subtype and out of scope here.
Personal liability
No limit stated
Not a module of this travel insurance product; liability abroad is covered under a separate Dutch personal liability insurance (AVP), not under this policy.
Legal assistance
No limit stated
Not a covered benefit of this travel product. Achmea Rechtsbijstand is referenced only in the general terms' complaints chapter (where to send a complaint about a legal-aid file), not as legal-expenses cover under this policy.
24/7 alarm centre assistance
unlimited
Only in Personenhulp op reis (DRV-RV-01-251)
Included as standard: the alarm centre arranges transport, medical escort on the return trip, gives advice and arranges sending of medical aids (only shipping costs paid), reachable at +31 (55) 579 79 55. The cost of telephone/internet contact with Centraal Beheer or the alarm centre itself is reimbursed without limit; contact costs with other people are capped at €300 per trip.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
The insured must contact the 24/7 alarm centre (+31 (55) 579 79 55) immediately for help and, in particular, before incurring any medical costs abroad. Costs must be reported as soon as possible and in any case within 2 weeks.
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured does not first contact the alarm centre, is treated in a private clinic without prior approval, or otherwise fails to meet the obligations in these terms to Centraal Beheer's detriment, the reimbursement can be reduced or refused.
Purchase while abroad
The policy terms do not explicitly address taking out this cover while already abroad. What is required is that the insured is registered at, and actually lives at, a Dutch address, and is insured with a Dutch health insurer. Someone who deregisters to go on a long trip stays insured for up to 365 days from the start of the trip only if that period is stated on the policy schedule; cover ends if the insured moves abroad or stays abroad longer than 1 year.
Chronic conditions
Costs relating to an illness, disorder or need for help that the insured already knew about, or could have known about, before departure (for example an existing illness) are excluded from both the Personenhulp and Medische kosten op reis cover.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy-related care is not addressed in the Personenhulp or Medische kosten op reis modules of this product; pregnancy is mentioned only as a ground for trip cancellation cover, a different subtype not covered by this extraction.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Medical costs and assistance are not covered if the insured knew, or could have known, before the trip that he would need this help or would incur these costs, for example because of an existing illness or a trip undertaken specifically to receive treatment.
Coverage duration limit
A single trip is covered for a maximum of 60 consecutive days by default; this can be extended to 180 or 365 consecutive days if chosen when taking out the policy (recorded on the policy schedule).
