Vereniging Eigen Huis
Vereniging Eigen Huis is a travel insurance for the Netherlands market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
For extraordinary costs and assistance, the policyholder must request prior telephone authorization from NN Alarmcentrale before claiming reimbursement or assistance; the Alarmcentrale can arrange and pay costs directly on the insured's behalf.
Geographic scope
Europe (incl. Azores, Madeira, Canary Islands, Turkey, Greenland) and non-European Mediterranean countries (Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia); worldwide cover is available as an optional add-on (Werelddekking)
The Netherlands is only covered if travel/stay there is part of a trip with a foreign end destination, or with proof of at least one paid overnight stay; the Automobilistenhulp (car assistance) cover never applies in the Netherlands.
Unique selling points
- Children under 5 are insured free of charge alongside a parent's policy.
- Medical costs incurred abroad are reimbursed at actual cost price as a top-up to the policyholder's Dutch health insurance, rather than a fixed capped amount.
- The optional Wintersport module reimburses up to €5,000 for damaged, lost or stolen ski/snowboard equipment, well above typical baggage sub-limits.
- Through the legal assistance module, DAS advances a bail bond abroad of up to €25,000 per event if a policyholder is caught up in a legal dispute.
- NN Alarmcentrale is reachable day and night for immediate assistance during any covered emergency abroad.

Medical evacuation (transport home)
Covered

Search and rescue
Covered
Included as part of the standard Hulpverlening cover: search, rescue and recovery operations carried out by or on behalf of the competent authorities are reimbursed, provided there is a reasonable chance of success and prior authorization from NN Alarmcentrale has been obtained.
COVID-19 treatment
No limit stated
No specific clause on medical treatment for COVID-19 was found in this policy's medical or assistance cover; only the optional Cancellation cover addresses outbreaks of infectious disease (for trip cancellation/curtailment purposes).
Pre-existing conditions
Excluded
Medical costs are not reimbursed for symptoms that were already foreseeable before the trip because of a pre-existing illness or condition the insured had prior to departure.
Winter sports cover
€5,000
Only in Wintersportdekking
Optional module required to be covered for accidents and costs during winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, etc. on marked pistes); without it, winter sports injuries are excluded from the base policy. The module includes extra reimbursement of up to €5,000 for damage, loss or theft of winter sports equipment (plus up to €2,500 for other baggage), replacement of a lost ski-lift pass, and reimbursement of unused ski lessons/lift passes.
Adventure / dangerous sports cover
Excluded
Damage or costs incurred while practicing dangerous sports (e.g. parachuting, mountaineering off marked routes, caving, whitewater rafting above class II, speed/endurance races, martial arts, ice climbing, heli-skiing) are never covered under this policy, and no add-on is available to include them.
Pregnancy complications
No limit stated
The medical expenses module does not contain a specific provision for pregnancy-related medical treatment abroad; pregnancy complications are addressed only under the optional Cancellation cover, which reimburses trip cancellation or curtailment due to pregnancy complications or medical advice against travel.

This travel insurance policy does not include a personal liability (aansprakelijkheid) coverage module.
Legal assistance
€5,000 – €15,000

Total costs are reimbursed up to €15,000 when the case can be handled within Europe; if the case falls under the optional Werelddekking outside Europe (or in specific non-European Mediterranean countries), DAS provides no direct legal aid itself but reimburses costs up to €5,000.
24/7 emergency assistance
Covered
Included as a standard part of the policy: NN Alarmcentrale can be reached day and night on +31 (0)26 400 23 90 for immediate assistance during medical emergencies, breakdowns, and other covered events.
Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
In case of illness or accident abroad, NN Alarmcentrale must be notified immediately, and in any case within 24 hours, by phone or e-mail; hospital admission must also be reported before, or otherwise within one week after, admission.
Unauthorized treatment
For extraordinary costs and assistance, prior telephone authorization from NN Alarmcentrale is always required before a claim for reimbursement and/or assistance can be made; costs the insurer has advanced that are not covered must be repaid within 30 days, after which statutory interest and collection costs apply.
Purchase while abroad
This policy can only be taken out while the policyholder is resident in the Netherlands; if the policyholder moves abroad, the policy ends automatically two months after settling abroad and no cover applies for events occurring after an unreported move.
Chronic conditions
Costs related to complaints from a pre-existing illness or condition that were foreseeable before the trip are excluded from the optional medical expenses cover.
Pregnancy
Pregnancy is not separately covered under the medical expenses module; under the optional Cancellation cover, trip cancellation or curtailment is reimbursed for medical pregnancy complications arising after booking, or if a doctor advises against travel for pregnancy-related medical reasons, provided this could not be foreseen when booking.
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Medical costs are not reimbursed if, before the trip, the insured already knew or could have known that an existing illness or condition would cause complaints during the trip.
Coverage duration limit
A trip is covered for a maximum of 90 consecutive days; with the optional Lang-op-reisdekking, this is extended to a maximum of 180 consecutive days. If the insured cannot return home in time due to a covered event, cover continues until return is possible.
