Direct payment

Costs must generally be paid by the insured first and are then reimbursed; for medical, assistance, vehicle breakdown and cancellation costs, prior authorization from the Eurocross alarm centre is required before costs are incurred.

Geographic scope

Policyholder chooses between Europe or Worldwide coverage area

Europe option covers listed European countries (including Russia up to the Urals and Turkey); Aruba, Bonaire, Curaçao, Sint Eustatius, Sint Maarten and Saba are excluded from 'Europe' but included under 'World'. World option covers anywhere globally. Domestic Dutch trips are only covered with at least one paid overnight stay, excluding stays at a fixed pitch, season pitch or own holiday home.

Unique selling points

  • Continuous (open-ended) policy covering an unlimited number of trips per year, up to 120 consecutive days per trip, rather than a single-trip policy.
  • No deductible on emergency assistance (Hulpverlening), medical expenses, or vehicle breakdown assistance - only baggage claims carry a €100 deductible.
  • Policy can be cancelled daily with no notice period via the digital Insurance Folder (Verzekeringsmap).
  • 24/7 dedicated emergency assistance line via the Eurocross alarm centre for illness, accident or death abroad.
  • Travelling pets (dogs and cats) are covered for unexpected veterinary costs abroad up to €250, a benefit not standard on all competitor policies.

24/7 emergency assistance

Covered

Eurocross alarm centre is reachable 24 hours a day by phone for acute emergencies such as illness, accident or death of an insured person during the trip.

Source

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

You must contact the Eurocross alarm centre before incurring costs; Eurocross must be informed of the situation and must give prior authorization for the costs to be made, otherwise Hulpverlening and extra costs are not reimbursed.

Unauthorized treatment

Hulpverlening and extra costs are only reimbursed if Eurocross has given prior authorization to incur them; costs made without this authorization are not covered.

Purchase while abroad

The reviewed policy documents do not explicitly address purchasing or activating the policy while already abroad.

Chronic conditions

Costs related to a pre-existing illness or condition for which the insured was already receiving treatment, or where the trip's purpose was to obtain or continue treatment abroad, are excluded from medical cover.

Pregnancy

Emergency medical care for unforeseen pregnancy complications during the trip is covered under the optional Medische kosten module; routine pregnancy care and foreseeable complications are excluded. Cancellation cover also applies for specific pregnancy-related situations, such as a doctor advising against travel or a carrier refusing transport due to the stage of pregnancy.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Medical costs are excluded if the trip was made with the purpose of undergoing or continuing treatment for an existing illness or condition abroad, or if it was already clear before departure that such medical costs would need to be made.

Coverage duration limit

Cover per trip is limited to a maximum of 120 consecutive days; if the trip lasts longer, cover stops at 00:00 on day 120, unless the delay beyond 120 days is caused by unforeseen circumstances beyond the insured's control, in which case cover continues until return is possible. The policy itself runs for an indefinite period.
