Direct payment

In most cases you pay costs yourself and later submit a claim with receipts for reimbursement; for urgent assistance such as medical transport, hospitalisation, repatriation or vehicle breakdown, the Univé Alarmcentrale must be contacted in advance and it can arrange and directly settle these costs.

Geographic scope

Selectable: Netherlands-Belgium-Germany, Europe (incl. Mediterranean countries), or Worldwide

Depending on the option chosen on the policy, cover applies in (1) the Netherlands, Belgium and Germany, (2) Europe plus the Azores, Canary Islands, Madeira, Algeria, Egypt, Israel, Lebanon, Libya, Morocco, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey, or (3) worldwide. For trips within the Netherlands at least one night of paid accommodation at a business must be booked.

Unique selling points

  • 24/7 emergency assistance via the Univé Alarmcentrale, which can arrange and directly coordinate urgent medical transport, hospitalisation and repatriation.
  • Every Univé policyholder gets free, unlimited access to the Univé Cyberhelpdesk to help prevent or limit cybercrime damage, day and night.
  • Medical costs abroad are topped up above your Dutch health insurance with no separate euro ceiling stated, covering treatment for up to a full year from the start of care.
  • Fully modular policy: choose your own coverage area (NL-BE-Germany, Europe or Worldwide), maximum trip length (60 or 180 days) and baggage sum insured (€1,000/€2,500/€3,500).
  • Children up to and including 4 years old can be insured free of charge on the travel policy.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

There is no fixed number of hours for reporting illness, but you must contact the Univé Alarmcentrale for prior approval before incurring most emergency or assistance costs; a death must be reported to Univé at least 48 hours before the funeral or cremation.

Unauthorized treatment

Costs for assistance, transport, hospitalisation or repatriation that are incurred without prior approval from the Univé Alarmcentrale are not reimbursed.

Purchase while abroad

Cover only starts from the moment you leave your home address in the Netherlands to begin the trip, so the policy effectively cannot provide cover for a trip that is already underway abroad.

Chronic conditions

Illnesses, conditions and accidents that already existed before the policy started or before you departed on the trip are excluded, as are treatments that had already begun before the policy's inception.

Pregnancy

Costs related to pregnancy itself are not covered, but complications arising from pregnancy are covered under the optional medical costs module; abortion costs are excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing illnesses, conditions or accidents present before the insurance started or before departure are excluded from the medical costs module.

Coverage duration limit

Trips are covered for a maximum of 60 consecutive days, extendable to 180 consecutive days if this is stated on the policy; medical costs abroad are reimbursed for a maximum of one year from the start of treatment.
