Compensa Towarzystwo Ubezpieczeń S.A. Vienna Insurance Group
Compensa
Compensa is a motor casco insurance for the Poland market with online purchase and 24/7 assistance.
Direct payment
Claims can be filed online via compensa.pl or by calling the 24/7 assistance line. After notification, Compensa proposes one of three settlement paths: simplified (self-assessed via mobile app, payment within 3 business days for AC), partner workshop (cashless repair, all formalities handled by the workshop), or standard (expert inspection). In the partner workshop variant, a replacement vehicle and door-to-door transport service are provided. The insurer pays the workshop directly in the partner workshop variant.
Geographic scope

Coverage limits
Own Damage
Covered
The policy covers damage, destruction, or loss of the insured vehicle (with basic equipment) caused by events independent of the insured's will, excluding events explicitly listed as exclusions. This is an all-risk formula: all perils are covered except those expressly excluded. The insured sum equals the market value of the vehicle at policy inception (gross or net of VAT depending on policyholder's entitlement). Compensation is capped at the current insured sum. The total loss threshold is repair costs exceeding 70% of the vehicle's market value on the date of loss. Deductible: PLN 700 per claim for passenger cars and trailers up to 750 kg / camping trailers; 2% of insured sum (min PLN 700) for other vehicles. Claims under PLN 500 are not covered. Amortisation of parts applies by default (15%–65% depending on vehicle age) but can be waived for an additional premium in serwisowy and warsztat partnerski variants.
Total Loss
Covered
Total loss (szkoda całkowita) is declared when the gross repair cost of the damaged vehicle exceeds 70% of the vehicle's market value on the date of loss (if equal to or lower than the insured sum), or 70% of the insured sum (if the market value on the date of loss exceeds the insured sum). Compensation equals the vehicle's market value on the date of loss minus the salvage value, capped at the current insured sum. If the 'fixed insured sum' option was purchased, and market value on the date of loss is lower than the insured sum, compensation equals the current insured sum minus salvage value. Policy terminates upon payment of total loss compensation. Market value determined using Info-Ekspert, EUROTAX, or DAT catalogues.
Partial Loss
Covered
Partial loss (szkoda częściowa) is any damage that does not qualify as total loss and is not the result of theft. In the serwisowy (invoice) variant, compensation is based on invoices for repair pre-approved by Compensa, verified against AUDATEX/EUROTAX/DAT labour times and ASO labour rates in the vehicle's registration area. In the warsztat partnerski variant, compensation is based on invoices from the chosen partner workshop, using partner workshop labour rates and alternative parts prices. In the kosztorysowy (estimate) variant, Compensa prepares its own damage estimate using partner workshop rates and alternative parts prices. Depreciation of parts applies by default (15%–65%) in all variants; waivable for additional premium in serwisowy and warsztat partnerski variants. Mandatory depreciation applies to tyres, battery, brake pads, drive and exhaust system regardless of variant.
Theft and Robbery
Conditional
Theft (kradzież) of the vehicle, permanently fitted parts, and basic equipment is covered within the base AC scope, subject to conditions. Coverage is conditional on: (1) the policy being issued for a minimum annual period (theft excluded for sub-annual contracts); (2) the insured territory not being Albania, Belarus, Moldova, Russia, or Ukraine; (3) required anti-theft devices being properly armed and used. The definition of theft (art. 278–282 of the Polish Criminal Code) includes ordinary theft, burglary, robbery, mugging, and extortion. Appropriation (przywłaszczenie) is explicitly excluded. Compensation equals the vehicle's market value on the date of loss, capped at the current insured sum. Policy terminates upon payment of theft compensation. The insured must report theft to police within 12 hours and deregister the vehicle, then transfer title to Compensa.
Glass Damage (Windscreen and Side/Rear Windows)
Optional
Glass damage coverage (Assistance – Szyby, Chapter VII of the 2026 OWU) is an optional add-on available together with an AC or OC policy. It covers repair or replacement of damaged front, side, and rear windows. Repair or replacement must be carried out by a Compensa partner workshop. The insured sum is stated on the policy document (not published as a fixed amount in the OWU). A claim under this cover does not affect the AC no-claims discount. Excluded: panoramic roof, mirrors, reflectors, factory defects, advertising stickers, registration stickers, and damage from improper use.
Natural Perils
Covered
Natural perils are covered within the core AC scope as part of the all-risk formula. The OWU does not list specific named perils for AC (e.g. flood, hail, lightning) — instead, the policy covers all events causing damage, destruction, or loss of the vehicle unless expressly excluded. The IPID confirms coverage against 'żywioły lub pogoda (powódź, grad itp.)'. Excluded: damage caused by normal atmospheric conditions, corrosion, oxidation, moisture, mould, or deterioration due to prolonged standing.
Vandalism
Covered
Vandalism (wandalizm) is defined as deliberate destruction or damage of the vehicle by a third party. It is covered within the core all-risk AC scope. The OWU defines vandalism explicitly in the definitions section (§3 of the 2017 OWU structure, retained in 2026 OWU Chapter I §1 ust. 4 as part of the assistance scope; the 2026 OWU Chapter II §1 ust. 5 AC scope includes all non-excluded events). The IPID confirms vandalism as a covered event. Note: vandalism committed in the context of war, civil unrest, or acts of sabotage/terror is excluded per the general exclusions.
Roadside Assistance
Optional
Roadside assistance (Ubezpieczenie Assistance, Chapter III of the 2026 OWU) is a separate optional add-on to the AC policy. It is available in two variants: Baza (sum insured: EUR 150, covering on-site repair in case of accident only, and towing to nearest workshop) and Rozszerzony (sum insured: EUR 10,000, covering all insured events including breakdown, theft, vandalism; towing up to a km limit stated on policy; fuel delivery; battery jump-start up to 3 times; parking up to 14 days; replacement vehicle for days stated on policy; hotel accommodation up to 4 nights; 24/7 alarm centre). Note: per the product page, Assistance in Baza variant is included free of charge with AC purchase. The Rozszerzony variant requires an additional premium. Assistance and NNW can only be contracted together with AC or OC for the same period.
Replacement Vehicle
Optional
A replacement vehicle is provided in two ways within the Compensa product. (1) In the Assistance Rozszerzony variant: a replacement passenger car (comparable class, max engine displacement 2,000 cm³) is organised and paid for by Compensa for a number of days stated on the policy, in the event of accident, breakdown, or theft causing immobilisation. The vehicle is delivered and collected at no additional charge. (2) In the AC partner workshop (warsztat partnerski) variant: Compensa additionally covers the cost of renting a replacement vehicle (max 2,000 cm³) for the duration of the repair, including door-to-door delivery within 100 km of the partner workshop. Both channels require policy-level activation. Fuel, insurance, tolls, and deposits are not covered.
Driver and Passenger Accident (NNW)
Optional
NNW (Następstwa Nieszczęśliwych Wypadków) is an optional personal accident add-on covering the driver and passengers of the insured vehicle. It covers: permanent health impairment (trwały uszczerbek na zdrowiu) – compensation proportional to the percentage of impairment applied to the insured sum; death – full insured sum paid to beneficiaries; medical treatment costs – capped at 20% of the NNW insured sum (costs must be incurred in Poland). Coverage applies to accidents in direct connection with the movement of the insured vehicle, including boarding/alighting, loading/unloading, and roadside stops. The insured sum per person is specified on the policy. NNW can only be contracted with AC or OC for the same period. Excluded: illness, cardiac arrest, stroke as the cause of the accident; suicide attempt; cosmetic surgery costs; dental prostheses costs.
Key conditions
Driver age and experience limit
No minimum driver age is required for the base policy. However, if the policyholder declared at inception that only drivers aged 26 or older (or 28 or older) will drive the vehicle, and a claim occurs while a younger driver was at the wheel, an additional deductible of PLN 1,500 is applied to the first paid claim under that policy. This applies only to vehicles owned by natural persons or used under credit/leasing by natural persons.
Repair network requirements
The policyholder chooses the settlement variant at inception: (1) Serwisowy (invoice-based): repair at any workshop, costs reimbursed based on invoices verified against AUDATEX/EUROTAX/DAT labour times and ASO rates in the vehicle's registration area. (2) Warsztat partnerski (partner workshop): repair must be performed at a Compensa partner workshop chosen by the insured; the workshop handles formalities directly with Compensa; door-to-door and a replacement vehicle are included. (3) Kosztorysowy (estimate-based): Compensa prepares its own cost estimate and pays the policyholder; the policyholder may repair at any workshop or retain the payout. A full list of partner workshops is published on compensa.pl.
Territorial scope
AC BAZA (passenger cars, car-derived vehicles, trailers up to 750 kg, camping trailers): Poland, EU member states (European parts), and additionally: Albania, Andorra, Belarus, Bosnia & Herzegovina, Montenegro, Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Moldova, Monaco, Norway, Russia (European part as defined in OWU), San Marino, Serbia, Switzerland, Turkey (Thrace), Ukraine, Vatican, United Kingdom. AC MOC (other vehicles): Poland only by default; optional extension to the full BAZA territory for an additional premium. Theft is excluded in Albania, Belarus, Moldova, Russia (European part), and Ukraine regardless of AC variant.
Anti-theft requirements
The vehicle must be equipped with functional manufacturer-fitted anti-theft devices, and any additional anti-theft devices required by Compensa and specified in the policy. All security measures must be engaged every time the vehicle is left unattended. For passenger cars and light vans (up to 3.5 t): vehicles with market value up to PLN 20,000 require at least one simple mechanical device (external steering or clutch lock, fuel/power cut-off); value PLN 20,001–150,000: at least one certified independent device (auto-alarm, electronic engine immobiliser, mechanical gearbox lock, or equivalent electronic device); value PLN 150,001–250,000: at least two different certified independent devices; value over PLN 250,000: at least two certified devices plus a locating/monitoring device with active monitoring service contract. Motorcycles and quads: value up to PLN 100,000: at least one certified independent device; over PLN 100,000: at least two. Failure to arm anti-theft devices due to intentional or grossly negligent conduct, resulting in theft, excludes the theft claim. Agricultural tractors, non-motorised trailers, and special-purpose vehicles are exempt from the anti-theft requirements.
Claim notification deadline
The insured must notify Compensa of a loss: (a) if the event occurred in Poland – within 5 business days of learning about it, or within 2 business days for theft; (b) if the event occurred abroad – within 5 business days of re-entering Poland, or within 3 business days of the event if the insured had to use Compensa's foreign representative. In the event of theft, vehicle damage, or circumstances suggesting a criminal offence, police must be notified within 12 hours. The insured must not alter or repair the vehicle before Compensa's inspection, unless necessary for safety. If Compensa does not contact the insured within 7 days of loss notification to arrange inspection, repair may proceed without prior approval.
Deductible rules
Standard deductible (udział własny): PLN 700 per claim for passenger cars, trailers up to 750 kg, and camping trailers; 2% of insured sum (minimum PLN 700) per claim for all other vehicles (MOC option). An additional deductible of PLN 1,500 applies to the first claim if a driver younger than declared at inception (26 or 28 years) was at the wheel (applies to natural persons only). Claims not exceeding PLN 500 are not covered (minimum claim threshold / franchise intégrale). The deductible may be waived for an additional premium. A higher-than-standard deductible may be chosen for a lower premium.
Policy specifics
Repair Settlement Variants
Compensa AC offers multiple damage settlement options: invoice-based valuation (serwisowy), cost estimate valuation (kosztorysowy), or settlement through partner workshop (naprawy w warsztacie partnerskim).
Vehicle Valuation Method
For damage assessment, vehicle value is determined using market quotations from EUROTAX or DAT. If market quotations are unavailable, average market value of similar vehicles of the same type and production year is used, or value established by a property expert.
Partner Workshop Network
Compensa operates a network of partner workshops where damage can be settled directly. The policyholder can choose to receive compensation in kind (repair at partner workshop) or financial compensation.
Anti-Theft Security Requirements
Vehicle must be equipped with certified anti-theft systems when the vehicle is unattended. These include approved anti-theft devices such as alarms, immobilizers, or GPS localization systems.
Claim Reporting Timeframe
Claim reporting requirements vary by claim type and location. Claims occurring in Poland should be reported within specified timeframes (typically days). Prompt reporting enables efficient claim settlement.
