Key conditions
Assistance call deadline
In the event of an insured event, the insured must contact the Alarm Centre (Centrum Alarmowe) before taking any independent action, providing the policy number, name, description of the situation and type of help needed. Failure to contact the Alarm Centre (unless due to reasons beyond the insured's control) may reduce or negate entitlement to benefits (§15).
Unauthorized treatment
If the insured incurs medical costs without contacting the Alarm Centre for reasons beyond their control, they may claim reimbursement (refundacja) by submitting documentation including medical records, invoices and proof of payment to the Alarm Centre (Europ Assistance Polska Sp. z o.o., ul. Wołoska 5, Warsaw). Reimbursement is capped at the relevant sums insured and limits. If the insured deliberately or through gross negligence failed to use the means available for mitigating the loss, the insurer is released from liability for damages resulting from such failure (§15 ust. 2, §16).
Purchase while abroad
If the insurance contract is concluded after the start of a foreign trip, coverage begins no earlier than 3 days after the date of conclusion of the contract and payment of the premium (§5 ust. 3). There is no waiting period if the contract is concluded before departure.
Chronic conditions
Chronic diseases are defined as illnesses or health problems listed in the International Statistical Classification of Diseases and Related Health Problems, diagnosed before the policy conclusion, which were treated regularly or periodically, or caused hospitalisation within 24 months prior to the policy. Allergies are also classified as chronic diseases, except in cases where the allergic reaction occurred suddenly and its consequences directly threaten the insured's life. Worsening due to chronic disease exacerbation/complications is excluded by default; it can be added as a paid extension for foreign travel (§2 pkt 11, §3 ust. 5 pkt 14, §13 ust. 6 pkt 2).
Pregnancy
Coverage for pregnancy is conditional and limited: (1) premature birth before 32 weeks is covered up to 10,000 PLN; (2) one medical visit due to sudden deterioration of health related to pregnancy (excluding childbirth) and associated medical transport is covered up to 5,000 PLN. Planned pregnancy management, routine follow-up and childbirth costs (except premature birth before 32 weeks) are expressly excluded (§7 ust. 2 pkt 11-12, §13 ust. 3 pkt 2-3).
Pre-existing condition exclusions
Pre-existing chronic conditions are excluded by default. An extension covering health deterioration caused by exacerbation or complications of a chronic condition can be purchased as a paid add-on for foreign travel. Additionally, stroke and heart attack are not classified as sudden illness if the insured had been diagnosed with cardiovascular disease (hypertension, coronary disease, atherosclerosis, diabetes or lipid disorders) before the policy conclusion (§2 pkt 11, §2 pkt 32, §3 ust. 5 pkt 14).
Coverage duration limit
Short-term policies: minimum 1 day, maximum 90 days. Annual policies (365 days): each single foreign trip may not exceed 90 days. Coverage is automatically extended by up to 48 hours free of charge if the insured's return is delayed due to circumstances beyond their control (vehicle breakdown, natural disaster, cancelled/delayed public transport, traffic accident) (§5 ust. 1, §5 ust. 4).
