Direct payment

Generali directly settles hospitalization costs with the hospital or via its representative. The 24/7 Assistance Center organizes and guarantees payment to medical facilities abroad. The insured must contact the Assistance Center within 24 hours of an event. If costs are incurred without prior authorization, reimbursement requires a written claim within 7 days of return (no later than 45 days from the event).

Medical expenses (costs of treatment)

Covered

Covers medical expenses up to 5,000,000 PLN per insured person per insured event for acute illness, exacerbation of chronic disease, or accident occurring during international travel after crossing the Polish border. Covered costs include: outpatient procedures ordered by a doctor, medical consultations, medications and dressings, orthopedic aids, hospitalization where deferral is not possible, physician house calls, isolation facility stay for WHO-declared pandemic diseases, physician fees. Includes COVID-19 treatment. The sum insured is stated in the insurance document. Coverage applies exclusively outside Poland and outside the insured country of residence.

Outpatient treatment abroad is covered within the overall medical expenses sum insured (up to 5,000,000 PLN). Includes ambulatory procedures ordered by a physician, medical consultations, physician house calls, medications, dressings and orthopedic aids prescribed by a physician. One follow-up visit (suture removal, cast removal, dressing change) within 30 days of the first post-accident visit, and follow-up visits related to acute illness or chronic disease exacerbation if recommended by the treating physician and approved by the Assistance Center, up to EUR 150 total for such visits. Emergency dental treatment

Covered

Dental treatment for acute pain or inflammatory conditions is covered up to EUR 200 in total for all illnesses requiring immediate medical care arising during the insurance period. Elective dental treatment and prosthetics are excluded.

Medical transport

Covered

Transport of the insured from the scene of an accident, sudden illness or chronic disease exacerbation to the nearest hospital or medical facility (including specialist mountain, sea or ocean rescue services if the insured location is known) is covered within the overall assistance sum insured. Transport from a medical facility to the accommodation abroad after treatment is reimbursed up to EUR 200. Transport cost does not reduce the medical expenses sum insured; it is covered up to the separate assistance sum insured stated in the policy.

Medical evacuation (repatriation to Poland)

Covered

Generali organizes and covers the cost of medical transport of the insured to a medical facility or place of residence in Poland or country of residence if required by health condition or if the pre-planned transport cannot be used. The transport means is selected by the Assistance Center physicians in consultation with the treating physician. The cost does not reduce the medical expenses sum insured; it is covered up to the assistance sum insured stated in the policy.

Repatriation of remains

Covered

In the event of the insured death during international travel regardless of cause, Generali organizes all formalities and covers transport of the remains to the place of burial in Poland or country of residence. Also covers cremation and urn transport or burial abroad up to the cost of transporting remains to Poland. Additionally covers cost of a transport coffin up to EUR 1,000. Transport cost is covered up to the assistance sum insured stated in the policy and does not reduce the medical expenses sum insured.

Search and rescue (mountains, sea, ocean)

Covered

Generali covers the costs of search operations and rescue operations in mountains, at sea or in the ocean up to the assistance sum insured stated in the insurance document. Search is defined as the period from receipt of the missing-person report by specialized rescue services until the insured is found or rescue services decide to end the search. Rescue is defined as first-aid rendered from discovery until handover to medical services. Kidnapping-related costs are not covered.

COVID-19 treatment

Covered

COVID-19 is covered as an acute illness within the standard medical expenses coverage (up to 5,000,000 PLN). Additionally if isolation in a facility is required and organized by state medical services and confirmed by a diagnostic test for a WHO-declared pandemic disease, the isolation facility stay is covered if the pre-booked accommodation cannot be used or the reservation expires during quarantine.

Pre-existing conditions / chronic disease exacerbation

Acute exacerbation of a chronic disease is covered up to 100% of the medical expenses sum insured. A chronic disease is defined as one diagnosed, treated or showing symptoms in the 24 months preceding the policy inception date. Coverage activates only if the exacerbation occurs suddenly after crossing the Polish or country-of-residence border, requires immediate medical assistance and necessitates treatment before the end of the trip. General routine treatment of chronic diseases without acute exacerbation is excluded. Travel undertaken despite existing medical contraindications is excluded entirely.

Winter sports cover

Optional

Coverage for winter sports must be purchased as a paid add-on. Defined as practicing all forms of skiing or snowboarding on marked trails in winter conditions or sports using vehicles designed for snow or ice. Without this extension events from winter sports are excluded from medical expenses, accident and liability coverage. When purchased it also unlocks additional assistance benefits: proportional ski pass refund up to PLN 800, ski closure compensation PLN 100 per day or up to PLN 700 transport and pass costs, proportional ski equipment rental refund up to PLN 700, and avalanche accommodation costs up to PLN 250 per day with PLN 500 total maximum.

High-risk / adventure sports cover

Optional

Coverage for high-risk sports must be purchased as a paid add-on. Defined as winter sports PLUS: mountain sports (off-piste skiing and snowboarding, heliskiing, downhill, speleology, bouldering, rock and ice climbing with safety equipment at 4,000-6,000 m if expedition not exceeding 6,000 m), aerial sports (hang gliding, paragliding, skydiving, gliding, BASE jumping), motorized and motorized-water sports (quad, racing, motorboating), water sports (kitesurfing, water skiing, wakeboarding, scuba diving below 15 m, free diving, river rafting), street luge, bungee, parkour, combat sports excluding MMA, and expeditions to Antarctica or Greenland. Pregnancy-related coverage

Conditional

Pregnancy and its consequences are generally excluded. Exceptions covered: (1) premature birth before the 32nd week of pregnancy and associated care of mother and child up to EUR 2,000; (2) one medical visit for sudden deterioration of health related to pregnancy excluding childbirth itself and associated transport to a medical facility up to EUR 150. All other pregnancy-related costs including normal birth are excluded. Artificial insemination, infertility treatment and contraceptives are excluded.

Personal liability (civil liability in private life)

Optional

Civil liability coverage for personal injury and property damage caused to third parties during travel in the course of private-life activities is available as an optional paid add-on. Covers liability from: care of minor children, care of pets, use of tourist accommodation, everyday activities, use of non-motorized vehicles and e-scooters, model aircraft and drones up to 1 kg, small watercraft for personal use. Also covers necessary expert fees up to 20% of sum insured and court defense costs. The sum insured is per person as stated in the insurance document. Excluded: contractual liability, damage to family members, intentional damage, motorized vehicles, professional or commercial activities, MMA and professional sports.

Legal assistance abroad

If the insured becomes involved in a legal conflict abroad, the Assistance Center organizes and pays for an attorney and interpreter provided the charges relate exclusively to civil liability under the law of the country concerned. Legal assistance up to EUR 1,200 total for all events during the insurance period. Excluded: business or professional activities, employment abroad, ownership or use of a motor vehicle. Additionally bail payment up to EUR 1,200 may be advanced if the insured is detained; the insured must repay within 7 days of return no later than 45 days of the advance.

The Generali Assistance Center is available 24/7 and provides coordination, organization and payment of emergency assistance services during international travel. Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured or their representative must contact the Generali Assistance Center by telephone within 24 hours of the occurrence of an insured event, provided this was possible. If contact was impossible for documented reasons, the Assistance Center must be notified as soon as those reasons cease, no later than 7 days after they end. A written claim for reimbursement must be submitted within 7 days of return to Poland or country of residence, no later than 45 days from the event, if prior Assistance Center authorization was not obtained.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured intentionally or through gross negligence fails to contact the Assistance Center within 24 hours and this failure caused an increase in the extent of loss or prevented Generali from determining the circumstances and consequences of the event, Generali may reduce compensation proportionally to the degree the failure contributed to the increased loss, but only to the extent the failure has an adequate causal relationship with the loss. This reduction does not apply if Generali receives information about the relevant circumstances within the required deadline.

Purchase while abroad

If the insured is in Poland at the time of concluding the international travel insurance contract, coverage begins no earlier than on the day and hour of contract conclusion provided the premium is paid. If the insured is already abroad at the time of contract conclusion, coverage begins no earlier than 4 hours after contract conclusion provided the premium is paid.

Chronic conditions

General treatment of chronic diseases is excluded. However, acute exacerbations or complications of chronic diseases that arise suddenly after crossing the Polish or country-of-residence border, require immediate medical assistance and necessitate treatment before the end of the trip are covered up to 100% of the medical expenses sum insured. A chronic disease is defined as one diagnosed, treated or showing symptoms in the 24 months preceding the policy inception date.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy and all its consequences are generally excluded. Exceptions: premature birth before the 32nd week with associated mother and child care up to EUR 2,000; one physician visit for sudden pregnancy-related health deterioration excluding childbirth with associated transport up to EUR 150. All other pregnancy costs including normal childbirth, artificial insemination, infertility treatment and contraceptives are excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Acute exacerbations of chronic diseases are covered within the standard medical expenses coverage up to 100% of the sum insured, provided the exacerbation arises suddenly after crossing the Polish or country-of-residence border, requires immediate medical assistance and necessitates treatment before the end of the trip. Routine non-acute treatment of a pre-existing chronic condition is excluded. Travel undertaken despite medical contraindications is excluded entirely.

Coverage duration limit

For international travel: coverage begins at border crossing upon departure no earlier than the date and time stated in the insurance document and after premium payment; ends at recrossing the border upon return no later than 24:00 on the stated end date. For annual multi-trip policies each individual trip must not exceed 60 days. Coverage always ends upon exhaustion of the sum insured or termination of the insurance relationship. Emergency extension of up to 24 hours applies in documented force-majeure situations such as vehicle breakdown, accident, illness or adverse weather conditions.
