Direct payment

Link4 organizes and directly covers medical treatment costs and assistance services through its 24/7 Alarm Centre (Centrum Alarmowe, operated by Europ Assistance Polska Sp. z o.o.). The insured must contact the Alarm Centre before seeking treatment whenever possible. Direct settlement is the standard; reimbursement is available if prior contact was impossible.

Geographic scope

Europe and World (excluding Poland and country of residence)

Three variants available: Poland (domestic), Europe and Mediterranean Basin, World (all countries excluding Poland and country of residence). For foreign travel variants, Poland and the insured's country of residence are always excluded.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the 24/7 Alarm Centre immediately, no later than the moment contact becomes possible, upon the occurrence of any covered event (sudden illness or accident). Costs incurred without prior consent of the insurer's representative are not reimbursed, unless contact was impossible for reasons beyond the insured's control (OWU §35.1).

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured incurs medical expenses without prior authorization from the Alarm Centre, Link4 may refuse reimbursement in full or in part, unless it was objectively impossible to contact the Alarm Centre. The insured must always follow the instructions of the Alarm Centre (OWU §35.1, §36).

Purchase while abroad

If the policy is concluded after the start of the foreign trip, coverage cannot begin earlier than the 3rd day from the date of submitting the insurance application. The premium is paid in a lump sum. Coverage commences from the date stated in the policy document, but not earlier than the day following payment of the premium (OWU §10.4).

Chronic conditions

From 17 June 2025, coverage for deterioration of a pre-existing chronic disease is included in the standard policy up to 100% of the medical expenses sum insured, without any additional premium. A chronic disease is defined as any health disorder characterized by permanence, disability, irreversible pathological changes, or requiring long-term supervision. Prior to 17 June 2025, chronic disease cover was limited to 20% of the sum insured and required a paid extension.

Pregnancy

Coverage is limited to childbirth occurring before the 32nd week of pregnancy and associated care for the mother and child (up to 2,000 EUR). Coverage does not apply to: planned pregnancy management, complications from the 32nd week of pregnancy, termination of pregnancy (unless to save the insured's life or health per applicable law), artificial insemination, or other fertility treatments (OWU §13.1.6, §16.3).

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Diseases (including chronic diseases) that existed before the start of coverage and their complications are generally excluded. However, from 17 June 2025, exacerbations of chronic diseases (meeting the OWU definition) are included in the standard product up to 100% of the medical expenses sum insured. Pre-existing conditions that do not qualify as chronic diseases under the OWU definition remain fully excluded (OWU §16.4.1).

Coverage duration limit

For foreign travel, the policy can be concluded for a minimum of 1 day and a maximum of 60 days per trip, or as an annual policy (12 months). The annual policy covers all foreign trips made during the 12-month period without the need to conclude a separate agreement before each trip. Coverage ends upon return to Poland, but no later than the end of the last day of the insurance period (OWU §10.3, §10.5).
