However, the insurer organises and directly covers medical costs; if the insured arranges treatment without contacting the alarm centre, they may seek reimbursement up to the insured sum. The alarm centre must be notified to organise evacuation, extended coverage up to 48 hours, and to qualify for certain transport benefits. Emergency extension of coverage (up to 48 hours) must be reported to the alarm centre at +48 22 522 27 06.

Unauthorized treatment

The OWU does not impose an explicit financial penalty for treatment obtained without prior alarm centre authorisation. However, the insurer is not liable for the quality or outcome of medical services rendered, including treatment not organised through the alarm centre.

Purchase while abroad

The policy may be purchased while the insured is already abroad. However, if on the date of contract conclusion the insured is outside Poland or their country of residence, coverage under medical expenses, rescue and transport, travel support services and rental car excess commences only after a 3-day waiting period, i.e., at the start of the fourth day. No premium is charged for the waiting period. Coverage under personal liability, personal accident, baggage and sports equipment commences immediately upon purchase but not before the travel start date.

Chronic conditions

Acute exacerbation of chronic illness symptoms is covered under the base medical expenses coverage at no additional premium, up to the full selected insured sum. Pregnancy complications and premature birth are covered under the base medical expenses coverage at no additional premium. Normal, uncomplicated pregnancy and childbirth costs are excluded. Pregnancy termination costs are excluded except when necessary to save the insured's life or health. Medical visits and newborn care in connection with complications or premature birth are included.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing chronic conditions are covered for acute exacerbations during travel at no extra cost. However, if prior to travel the insured had a doctor's contraindication to travel, or there were pre-existing indications for surgery or hospitalisation that influenced the event, costs will not be covered. Planned treatments, sanatorium stays and continuing management of pre-existing conditions are excluded.

Coverage duration limit

A single policy may be concluded for one trip for a period of 1 day to 1 year. The policy must be concluded no later than 12 months before the start of the trip.
