Direct payment

SIGNAL IDUNA pays justified and documented treatment costs directly to the medical facility's account via the Alarm Centre (Centrala Alarmowa). For dental treatment and a single outpatient visit, the insured may choose the doctor themselves and pay the costs directly, then seek reimbursement.

Geographic scope

Zone I: Europe and Mediterranean Basin; Zone II: Worldwide (excluding country of residence)

Coverage applies outside the insured's country of residence. Zone I covers Europe and Mediterranean countries; Zone II covers all countries worldwide. The country of residence is excluded.

Unique selling points

  • Unlimited return transport to country of residence – the cost of transporting the insured home due to illness or accident is covered with no monetary ceiling, and does not reduce the medical expenses sum.
  • Chronic disease exacerbations and amateur sports are covered in the standard base policy without any extension or additional premium – two inclusions that most Polish travel insurers charge extra for.
  • Medical expenses insured up to 500,000 EUR per person per trip, among the highest limits available on the Polish travel insurance market.
  • 24/7 Polish-language Alarm Centre (+48 22 864 55 26) with direct payment to medical facilities abroad, plus a phone consultation with a Polish-speaking doctor available at any time.
  • MULTITRIP annual policy (named form) covering an unlimited number of trips with no per-trip limit on frequency, covering the first 60 days of each trip – ideal for frequent travellers.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must immediately contact the Alarm Centre and cooperate with it when medical assistance is needed that results in costs to the insured. This obligation does not apply when the insured objectively could not contact the Alarm Centre due to their health condition, for dental treatment, or for a single outpatient visit.

Unauthorized treatment

SIGNAL IDUNA is not liable for any costs incurred by the insured without the Alarm Centre's approval. Costs incurred contrary to the Alarm Centre's decision agreed with the treating physician abroad are also not covered. If the insured fails to fulfil their obligations due to wilful misconduct or gross negligence, SIGNAL IDUNA may reduce the benefit proportionally.

Purchase while abroad

If the policy is concluded for an insured already abroad, SIGNAL IDUNA's liability begins after a 3-day waiting period (karencja) counted from the day following conclusion of the contract. The premium is collected only for the period during which cover is provided. This waiting period does not apply when renewing an existing policy before it expires.

Chronic conditions

Sudden acute exacerbation of a chronic disease (Zaostrzenie choroby przewlekłej) requiring immediate medical attention is included in the base policy without any extension or additional premium. Chronic disease is defined as a disease that required treatment and is recognised as chronic according to general medical knowledge. Examples include hypertension, coronary disease, diabetes, gallstones, thyroid disorders, peptic ulcer, joint and spine degeneration, cancer, and permanent organ damage.

Pregnancy

A pregnant woman may obtain coverage. Pregnancy complications are covered provided they did not exist prior to the start of the foreign trip. Premature birth (up to 32nd week of pregnancy) is covered jointly for mother and child up to the KL sum. Termination of pregnancy is excluded unless performed to save the life or health of the insured.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Continuation of treatment for illnesses that began before conclusion of the insurance contract is excluded. Treatments that can be postponed until the insured's return to their country of residence are not covered. Treatments for which a surgical procedure, hospitalisation, or inpatient observation was already indicated before travel are excluded if the insured event is related to such indications.
