Direct payment

The Emergency Centre (Centrum Alarmowe) organises and directly pays for medical treatment on behalf of the insured. The insured must contact the Emergency Centre before or immediately after receiving medical care to obtain a guarantee of cost coverage. If the insured independently organises treatment, costs are reimbursed by the insurer on the basis of receipts and proof of payment.

Geographic scope

Worldwide or Poland only, depending on trip type

For foreign travel: worldwide excluding Poland and country of permanent residence (for medical costs); worldwide for NNW, baggage, OC. For domestic travel: Poland only.

Unique selling points

  • Medical expenses insured sum up to 250,000 EUR for foreign travel – among the highest limits available in the Polish market for individual travel insurance.
  • Chronic disease exacerbations are covered within the standard medical expenses benefit with no additional premium required, unlike most competitors who exclude them or require a paid extension.
  • Amateur sports including skiing, snowboarding, scuba diving, rafting, kitesurfing and other water and winter sports are included in the base product at no extra premium.
  • 24/7 Emergency Centre with direct cost guarantee to medical facilities abroad eliminates the need for the insured to pay out-of-pocket and seek later reimbursement in most cases.
  • Flexible online purchase with immediate policy issuance and premium payable via online payment gateway – coverage can be arranged even for persons already outside Poland (subject to 3-day waiting period).

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact the Emergency Centre before or immediately after receiving medical care in order to obtain a guarantee of cost coverage for the medical facility. Failure to contact the Emergency Centre may result in denial or reduction of the claim.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured independently organises treatment without contacting the Emergency Centre, costs may be reimbursed on the basis of receipts and proof of payment. However, transport and evacuation costs are only reimbursed up to the amount the Emergency Centre would have incurred, and the Emergency Centre's approval is required for medical evacuation. Deliberate or grossly negligent failure to mitigate damage may result in insurer refusing liability.

Purchase while abroad

If the contract is concluded on behalf of a person already outside Poland, a 3-day waiting period (karencja) applies from the date of contract conclusion and premium payment before coverage commences. The waiting period does not apply for contract continuation (consecutive renewal maintaining continuous cover).

Chronic conditions

Acute exacerbations of chronic diseases (diagnosed before contract conclusion, long-term, periodically or continuously treated) are covered within the standard medical expenses sum. Stable, non-acute conditions and treatment beyond what is necessary to allow return to Poland are excluded. Rehabilitative treatment is excluded.

Pregnancy

Childbirth occurring after the 32nd week of pregnancy, postnatal care of mother and child, and costs of termination of pregnancy are explicitly excluded from coverage. Acute illness conditions unrelated to late-stage pregnancy may in principle be covered under the general medical expenses benefit.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing conditions defined as chronic diseases diagnosed before contract conclusion are partially covered – specifically their acute exacerbations requiring immediate treatment abroad. However, treatment whose purpose is the travel destination itself, treatment exceeding what is medically necessary to allow return, treatment of mental disorders, congenital defects, venereal diseases, AIDS/HIV-related conditions, and rehabilitative treatment are excluded.

Coverage duration limit

Coverage applies for the entire period specified in the policy. The insurance contract can be concluded for an annual period or for less than one year (short-term). The scope of cover is the same for annual and short-term policies. Where due to force majeure the insured cannot return to Poland at the planned time, coverage is automatically extended by 72 hours from the end of the policy period, provided the Emergency Centre is notified before the policy end date. Upon return to Poland or country of permanent residence, the contract terminates.
