Direct payment

Fidelidade settles own-damage claims either by repairing the vehicle through a workshop it selects within the Autoestima network, replacing it, or paying a cash indemnity; the insurer may use used parts or parts produced by independent aftermarket manufacturers (IAM) provided correct vehicle function is guaranteed.

Geographic scope

Portugal (mainland) and the Autonomous Regions of Madeira and the Azores

Own-damage covers apply within the EU plus Andorra, Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Serbia (territorial scope 'G3'); Assistance in Viagem PLUS extends worldwide for injured persons, subject to specific sub-limits.

Unique selling points

  • Optional Facultative Civil Liability can be extended up to 50,000,000 €, far above the legal minimum.
  • No deductible or salvage deduction is applied on total-loss claims when the salvage value does not exceed 30% of the vehicle's market value.
  • After a total loss, Fidelidade actively searches for and helps source a replacement vehicle with characteristics similar to the insured car.
  • The Facultative Civil Liability cover automatically extends to liability incurred while charging the vehicle's batteries at public or private charging points.
  • Assistência em Viagem PLUS provides unlimited-value sanitary repatriation and vehicle transport/repatriation with no capped ceiling.

Coverage limits

Own Damage (Choque, Colisão ou Capotamento)

70% of insured sum

Covers damage to the insured vehicle from collision, impact or overturning. Under the mandatory Capital Seguro Proporcional condition applicable to Autoestima, the insured capital corresponds to 70% of the vehicle's market value (valor venal); a single 250 € deductible applies.

Source

Total Loss

70% of insured sum

With the Capital Seguro Proporcional condition contracted (as in Autoestima), the vehicle is deemed a total loss when the repair cost exceeds the capital seguro (70% of market value) or the vehicle disappears/is destroyed. No deductible or salvage deduction is applied when the salvage value is 30% or less of the vehicle's market value; on request, Fidelidade will search for a replacement vehicle with similar characteristics.

Source

Partial Loss / Repair

70% of insured sum

Partial damage not amounting to total loss is repaired up to the capital seguro (70% of the vehicle's market value); repairs are carried out at an insurer-designated Autoestima workshop, which may use used or IAM parts, and the 250 € deductible is deducted from the indemnity.

Source

Theft or Robbery

70% of insured sum

Covers disappearance, destruction or deterioration of the vehicle following theft, robbery or unauthorised use (attempted, frustrated or completed), up to 70% of the vehicle's market value. Charging cables are covered when inside the vehicle or, during charging, outside it, provided they are factory-fitted or declared as Extras. Indemnity is only due 60 days after the police report if the vehicle is not recovered.

Isolated Glass Breakage

€1,000 – €2,000

Covers isolated breakage of the windscreen, rear window, sunroof/panoramic roof or side windows not accompanied by other vehicle damage. The Autoestima product page/table states a 1,000 € limit, while the pre-contractual information document shows the Autoestima column with both a base 1,000 € limit and an optional simultaneous upgrade to 2,000 €; both values are recorded to reflect this discrepancy.

Source

Natural Perils

70% of insured sum

Covers damage caused by storms, floods, seismic phenomena or land movements, and by falling trees, roof tiles, chimneys, walls or urban structures caused by these events, up to 70% of the vehicle's market value. All damage from the same storm/flood event within 48 hours, or the same seismic event within 72 hours, counts as a single claim.

Source

Acts of Vandalism / Social and Political Risks

70% of insured sum

Covers damage from vandalism, terrorism, sabotage, strikes, riots, labour disputes and public-order disturbances, and from measures taken by lawfully constituted authorities in response to such events, up to 70% of the vehicle's market value; a 250 € deductible applies (listed as 'Riscos Sociais e Políticos' on the Autoestima benefits table).

Travel Assistance (Assistência em Viagem PLUS)

Covered

Autoestima includes the PLUS level of Assistência em Viagem. Key sub-limits: towing/breakdown assistance 500 €, vehicle removal/extraction 200 € (max 3 occurrences/year); unlimited sanitary repatriation and vehicle transport/repatriation; medical, surgical and hospitalisation expenses abroad up to 10,000 €/person/trip and 40,000 €/trip; funds advance abroad up to 1,250 €/6,250 €; unlimited assistance for lost/stolen luggage; unlimited 24/7 telephone assistance.

Replacement Vehicle (Nível 1)

Optional

The Autoestima-specific benefits table lists Veículo de Substituição Nível 1 as an optional cover ('(o)'), providing a base/equivalent-range replacement vehicle in case of accident. Note: the pre-contractual information document (IPC/DIPS) shows the same Nível 1 cover for Autoestima without an optional marker, which conflicts with the product-specific table; this record follows the narrower Autoestima table and flags the discrepancy.

Driver Accident Protection (Proteção ao Condutor / Proteção Vital do Condutor)

€10,000 – €500,000

Autoestima includes driver personal-accident cover in one of two mutually exclusive forms: Proteção ao Condutor, paying 10,000 €/1,000 €, 50,000 €/5,000 € or 100,000 €/10,000 € (death or permanent disability / treatment expenses), or Proteção Vital do Condutor, a broader indemnity of 500,000 € covering future patrimonial loss, biological damage, home/vehicle/workplace adaptation and related benefits. Only one of the two can be in force at a time.

Key conditions

Driver age and experience limit

The Autoestima own-damage covers do not impose a general driver age or experience eligibility requirement. Age-related limitations found elsewhere in the policy (e.g. death indemnity limited to funeral costs for persons over 75) apply only to the optional Proteção ao Condutor/Proteção Vital do Condutor and Dívida Segura riders, not to the own-damage covers themselves.

Repair network requirements

Repairs must be carried out at a workshop selected by Fidelidade within the Autoestima network; the insurer may use used parts or parts produced by independent aftermarket manufacturers (IAM), provided correct vehicle function is guaranteed. The policyholder does not have free choice of repairer.

Territorial scope

Own-damage covers for passenger cars apply within the EU plus Andorra, Gibraltar, Iceland, Norway, the United Kingdom, Switzerland and Serbia (territorial scope 'G3'); Assistance in Viagem PLUS extends worldwide for injured persons, subject to specific sub-limits.

Anti-theft requirements

The theft/robbery cover excludes disappearance, destruction or damage caused by temporarily abandoning the vehicle open and/or with the key inside in a public place. A police report must be filed immediately, and indemnity is only due once 60 days have elapsed since the report if the vehicle has not been recovered.

Claim notification deadline

The policyholder or insured must notify the insurer in writing within 8 days of the accident or of becoming aware of it, providing all documentary and/or testimonial evidence relevant to determining liability.

Deductible rules

A single 250 € deductible applies to Choque, Colisão ou Capotamento claims and to Riscos Sociais e Políticos/Atos de Vandalismo claims; the deductible is always subtracted by the insurer from the indemnity, even when payment is made directly to the repair workshop. No deductible or salvage deduction applies on total loss when the salvage value is 30% or less of the vehicle's market value.
