Regulatory updates
In 2026, Montepio Geral mandated Société Générale to explore a partial or total sale of the Lusitania insurers amid market interest from groups including France's CNP Assurances; however, by July 2026 Montepio officially denied hiring Société Générale or receiving a formal purchase proposal from CNP, and the sale process did not proceed, reportedly due to opposition to a bancassurance arrangement. Separately, Lusitania Vida notified the ASF and EIOPA of its intention to provide services in several EU member states under freedom of services from its Portuguese base. The ASF also issued updated market conduct rules (Regulatory Standard 12/2024-R and related 2026 decree-law) affecting health information handling in insurance linked to credit contracts, which Lusitania has incorporated into its market conduct disclosures.
