Direct payment

Assistance benefits (medical/urgent transport, repatriation, funeral service, hospital interpreter, prolongation of stay, etc.) are arranged and paid directly by the insurer when pre-authorized by calling the assistance line (+351) 214 40 50 08; medical, dental and other treatment expenses incurred in the country of origin are instead reimbursed to the insured against proof of payment, and may be subject to a deductible.

Geographic scope

Worldwide for international trips under the Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business and Viagem 2 Erasmus plans; a separate reduced table applies to trips with origin and destination exclusively within Portugal

Coverage is valid for accidents occurring in the country/countries stated in the Particular Conditions or Membership Certificate. The contract does not cover trips whose country of origin is not Portugal, except when expressly stated otherwise, and the Viagem 2 Business and Viagem 2 Erasmus special conditions do not cover trips with both origin and destination in Portugal.

Unique selling points

  • Unlimited medical repatriation and sanitary transport, with no stated capital ceiling
  • Unlimited funeral service and transport-after-death benefits organized directly by the insurer
  • 25,000€ of medical expenses cover abroad with only a 50€ deductible
  • Optional 'Duplicação de Capitais' option that doubles nearly all insured capitals across the Viagem 2 family of plans
  • Four specialised context plans (Snow, Business, Erasmus) adding tailored extras such as ski search-and-rescue, airport lounge access on delay, and student legal protection

Coverage limits

Medical, surgical, hospitalization and pharmaceutical expenses abroad

€25,000 – €50,000

Combined guarantee covering medical, surgical, hospitalization and pharmaceutical expenses when medically prescribed following an accident or sudden illness occurring abroad during the trip. Base capital is 25,000€ (Viagem 2, Snow, Business and Erasmus), subject to a 50€ deductible; if the 'Duplicação de Capitais' option is contracted, this capital doubles to 50,000€. Only available for trips abroad; the reduced table for trips exclusively within Portugal does not include this benefit.

Source

Urgent/emergency medical treatment abroad

€25,000 – €50,000

The guarantee expressly covers urgent and immediate medical/surgical treatment following an accident or sudden illness abroad; it ceases once urgent treatment is no longer necessary or once the insurer's medical team agrees the insured can be transferred home. This shares the same 25,000€/50,000€ (doubled) ceiling as the general medical expenses guarantee — it is not an additional, separate capital.

Source

Hospitalization expenses abroad

€25,000 – €50,000

Hospitalization expenses are explicitly named within the combined 'Despesas Médicas, Farmacêuticas e de Hospitalização no Estrangeiro' guarantee and share its 25,000€/50,000€ (doubled) ceiling, not an additive amount. A separate optional daily hospital-admission cash indemnity also exists (see product-specific constraints).

Source

Outpatient treatment

No limit stated

Not itemized as a separate benefit in any of the sources; outpatient care would fall generically under the combined medical expenses guarantee, but no distinct sublimit or wording for outpatient treatment specifically was found.

Source

Emergency dental treatment abroad

€750 – €2,000

Covers emergency dental treatment necessary due to an accident or acute clinical situation. Base capital is 750€ for Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow and Viagem 2 Business, and 1,000€ for Viagem 2 Erasmus, each subject to a 50€ deductible; with the 'Duplicação de Capitais' option these become 1,500€ and 2,000€ respectively.

Source

Urgent transport to nearest clinic/hospital

unlimited

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business, Viagem 2 Erasmus

Following an accident or sudden illness, the insurer arranges and pays, without a stated capital limit, ambulance or other adequate transport from the location of the event to the nearest clinic or hospital.

Source

Repatriation or sanitary transport in case of accident or illness

unlimited

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business, Viagem 2 Erasmus

The insurer pays transport costs by an adequate means (sanitary aircraft if urgency/severity require it, otherwise scheduled commercial flight or other adequate means) to the hospital centre prescribed by its medical team or to the insured's habitual residence, following prior medical control. The choice of transport means rests exclusively with the insurer's medical team.

Source

Transport after death / repatriation of remains

unlimited

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business, Viagem 2 Erasmus

In case of death of the insured during the trip, the insurer pays local formality costs and the cost of transporting the body to the place of burial, and, if applicable, the return transport of accompanying insured persons. Not applicable when the trip has origin and destination exclusively within continental Portugal.

Source

Search and rescue expenses at ski resort

unlimited

Only in Viagem 2 Snow

Optional benefit under the 'Pack Contexto Snow' of the Viagem 2 Snow plan: if the insured suffers an accident while amateur skiing (off-piste jumps excluded, on marked pistes) or snowboarding, the insurer covers search and rescue costs, including transport by an adequate means to the nearest hospital, with no stated capital limit.

Source

Infectious disease / pandemic-related treatment

Conditional

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business, Viagem 2 Erasmus

Claims arising directly or indirectly from infectious/contagious diseases (which would include COVID-19) are only covered if they occur outside the insured's country of residence, sharing the general medical expenses ceiling. Assistance services during a declared epidemic or pandemic are additionally limited to what is established/permitted by the competent local authorities.

Source

Pre-existing / chronic conditions

Excluded

Expenses related to chronic or pre-existing disease, and any aggravation of a pre-existing incapacity, injury or disease, are always excluded from every cover of the policy, except where there is an acute manifestation of the pre-existing lesion or disease.

Source

Winter/snow sports cover

Optional

Only in Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Erasmus

Practising sports on snow and ice is excluded from all covers of the policy except under the Viagem 2 Snow special condition (where it is always guaranteed) or, if expressly contracted as an extension, under the Viagem 2 Erasmus special condition. Where active, it shares the general medical expenses ceiling rather than having its own separate capital.

Source

Adventure sports cover

Optional

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Erasmus

'Desportos de Aventura' (amateur competitive sport, motorized land/water sports, kitesurf, scuba diving, spearfishing, mountaineering/climbing/rappelling and speleology) are excluded from all covers unless expressly contracted as a joint extension; where contracted, they share the general medical expenses ceiling.

Source

Pregnancy complications

Conditional

Only in Viagem 2, Viagem 2 Snow, Viagem 2 Business, Viagem 2 Erasmus

Complications arising from pregnancy are excluded once the claim occurs after the 7th month of gestation (4th month for twin pregnancies or pregnancies resulting from fertility treatment), and only where the insured already knew of the pregnancy when the policy was taken out; up to those thresholds, complications are covered under the general medical expenses ceiling.

Source

Non-contractual personal (third-party) liability

€100,000 – €200,000

Optional 'Pack 1' benefit paying indemnities for bodily injury and/or material damage caused to third parties within the insured's private life during the trip. Base capital is 100,000€ per claim and per year, doubling to 200,000€ with the 'Duplicação de Capitais' option. Excludes damage from vehicles driven/owned by the insured and risks subject to compulsory insurance under Portuguese law.

Legal protection (students)

€2,000

Only in Viagem 2 Erasmus

Optional benefit available only under the Viagem 2 Erasmus 'Pack Contexto Erasmus', managed by Fidelidade Assistência. Comprises several separately capped sub-benefits: legal advice (2 claims), criminal defense (2,000€), damage claims (2,000€), defense/claim of rights (2,000€), advance of criminal bail (2,000€), forensic medical assessment (500€) and accompaniment for statements (500€). Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

Most assistance benefits (urgent transport, hospital interpreter, repatriation, prolongation of stay, etc.) must be pre-requested from the insurer by phone (+351) 214 40 50 08 before being provided; separately, any accident must be reported to the insurer within a maximum of 8 days of the insured becoming aware of it.

Unauthorized treatment

Assistance benefits not previously requested from and agreed with the insurer, or performed without its consent, are not covered; failure by the insured to comply with post-accident obligations (undergoing medical exams, following prescriptions, authorizing information exchange) releases the insurer from liability.

Purchase while abroad

The policy does not cover trips whose country of origin is not Portugal, unless this is expressly stated in the Particular Conditions or Membership Certificate; in practice, this means the trip generally must originate in Portugal.

Chronic conditions

Expenses related to chronic or pre-existing disease are excluded from the medical expenses guarantee, except for acute manifestations of a pre-existing lesion or disease.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications are covered only up to the 7th month of gestation (4th month for twin pregnancies or pregnancies from fertility treatment), and only if the insured already knew of the pregnancy when the policy was taken out; beyond those thresholds, coverage is excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing incapacity, injury or disease, and any aggravation thereof, are always excluded from every cover of the policy, except for acute manifestation of a pre-existing lesion or disease.

Coverage duration limit

The policy guarantees trips abroad for a maximum period of one year; the actual insured period is stated in the Particular Conditions or Membership Certificate.
