Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of a covered claim, the policyholder, insured or insured person must notify Zurich in writing as soon as possible and never later than 8 days from the date of occurrence, detailing the day, time, location, causes and consequences.

Unauthorized treatment

Reimbursement of medical expenses abroad requires prior agreement with Zurich's Serviços de Assistência and supporting documentation; costs incurred in situations where Zurich was not called to intervene at the time of the event are excluded from cover.

Purchase while abroad

Cover under the policy begins only when the insured person boards the first means of transport used for the insured trip; events occurring before the contract's effective start, or before Zurich was called to intervene, are excluded from cover.

Chronic conditions

Expenses related to a chronic or pre-existing illness are expressly excluded from the medical expenses abroad guarantee.

Pregnancy

Expenses resulting from complications of pregnancy are excluded from the medical expenses guarantee; separately, childbirth complications occurring within the first six months of pregnancy of the insured, spouse or dependents can trigger the trip cancellation/interruption guarantee.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

If the consequences of an accident are aggravated by a pre-existing illness or condition, Zurich's liability cannot exceed what it would have been for a person without that condition; pre-existing illnesses are also expressly excluded from the medical expenses abroad guarantee.

Coverage duration limit

The Assistência às Pessoas guarantees apply only if the trip does not exceed 90 days; separately, per the product's IPID, the insurance automatically lapses at the end of the calendar year in which the insured person turns 70 years old.
