Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured or a person acting on their behalf must contact the Assistance Service by telephone before taking any independent action, at the latest within 24 hours of the occurrence of a covered event (+4 021 307 92 40). For any complex outpatient treatment exceeding 200 RON, hospitalisation, transport, repatriation, or civil liability, the insured must contact the Assistance Service immediately. Failure to do so may result in reduction or refusal of the claim.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured seeks medical treatment without prior authorisation from the Assistance Service, the insurer reserves the right to reduce the amount allocated to medical expenses or reject the claim. For outpatient treatment, the insured should where possible pay directly and claim reimbursement after returning to Romania, retaining all invoices and receipts.

Purchase while abroad

If the insured is abroad at the time of policy issuance, the insurer's liability shall commence no earlier than 3 days after the contract conclusion date, provided the premium has been paid. This waiting period does not apply to renewals of prior policies with Colonnade concluded before expiry of the previous period.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases (diagnosed, treated, or symptomatic in the 24 months prior to signing the insurance contract) are generally excluded. Emergency treatment for an acute exacerbation of a stabilised chronic disease occurring during the insurance period is conditionally covered up to 10% of the medical expenses insured sum per tier (Silver: 25,000; Gold: 50,000; Platinum: 100,000 RON). A stabilised chronic disease is one that in the 6 months before departure did not require a doctor's attention, medication change, or hospitalisation.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications requiring immediate medical care arising before the 30th week of pregnancy are covered within the overall medical expenses limit. Routine antenatal check-ups and consultations are not covered. Childbirth occurring after the 30th week of pregnancy is excluded. Abortion is excluded except when performed to save the life or health of the insured and permitted by the law of the country where performed.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing conditions are generally not covered. Only emergency treatment for an acute exacerbation of a stabilised chronic disease during the insured period is conditionally covered up to 10% of the medical expenses sum (Silver 25,000; Gold 50,000; Platinum 100,000 RON). Treatment that can be deferred until return to Romania is excluded. Medical contra-indications to travel known before departure, or a recommended surgery or hospital treatment prior to departure, result in denial of medical expense claims.

Coverage duration limit

The maximum duration of a single trip is 120 consecutive days. The insurance starts and ends at the time of crossing the border of the country of residence or Romania. For the annual multi-trip product, unlimited trips are permitted with a maximum duration of 120 consecutive days per trip. The insurance can be extended by agreement with the insurer. In emergencies (natural disasters, transport breakdown, adverse weather), the coverage period is automatically extended free of charge for up to 72 hours.
