Direct payment
The insurer, through its assistance company, provides payment guarantees directly to medical facilities and organises repatriation; costs incurred without prior insurer/assistance approval are reimbursed only for emergency outpatient care and urgent treatment immediately threatening life or acute pain relief.

Medical expenses abroad
Covered
Covers necessary costs arising from injury, sudden illness or death of the insured abroad, including healthcare, hospitalisation, surgery, prescribed medicines and basic assistance services. Terrorism-related costs covered up to 100,000 EUR (OPP Art. 5 item 1 VPP Art. 19 ods. 12).

Included within the medical expenses coverage; covers healthcare provided due to sudden change in health condition leading to stabilisation, including emergency outpatient care and urgent treatment immediately threatening life, even without prior insurer approval (VPP Art. 20b).

Hospitalisation costs covered within the overall medical expenses limit. Additionally, if the insured is hospitalised for more than 7 days and repatriation is not possible, one companion's accommodation (max 10 nights) and transport to SR is covered up to 1,200 EUR (of which accommodation up to 100 EUR/night) per OPP Art. 5 item 1b. Transport for children under 15 covered up to 1,000 EUR per Art. 5 item 1c.

Covers acute dental treatment for pain relief, not arising from neglected dental prevention or incomplete treatment in SR. Total limit for all dental costs during the policy period is up to double the agreed limit (335 EUR per OPP Art. 5 item 1a), so up to 670 EUR in total (VPP Art. 19 ods. 1 písm. e)).

Transport of the insured to the nearest medical facility is covered within the medical expenses limit (VPP Art. 19 ods. 1 písm. c)). Repatriation by medically indicated means is covered when originally planned transport cannot be used (VPP Art. 19 ods. 1 písm. g)).

Covered
Repatriation of the insured by medically indicated transport is organised and covered by the insurer/assistance company when the insured's condition makes the original transport impossible (VPP Art. 19 ods. 1 písm. g)). One accompanying person's transport to SR is also covered if medically necessary. The insurer has the right to determine the method and timing of repatriation (VPP Art. 19 ods. 6).

Risk group activities also covered if risk group is agreed (OPP Art. 7 ods. 3d).

Treatment of epidemic or pandemic disease (including COVID-19) is covered within the medical expenses insurance, per VPP Art. 17 ods. 1, unless the insured visits a country/locality designated as an epidemic/pandemic risk zone that was already so designated before the trip started and a 'do not travel' advisory was in force, in which case the insurer may decline the claim (VPP Art. 19 ods. 13).

Conditions existing at the time of policy conclusion that required hospitalisation or worsened during the immediately preceding 12 months are not covered for standard treatment; only acute emergency treatment and medical interventions necessary to prevent immediate threat to life or health are reimbursed. Conditions known before the trip but not hospitalisation-related are excluded if travel is medically not recommended (VPP Art. 20d, 20e).

Winter sports (skiing, snowboarding, sledging, etc.) performed on designated and operated ski slopes are included in the base definition of zimné športy in the VPP (Art. 1 item 48) and thus covered under standard medical expenses if performed as recreation. However, competitive winter sports, or those on non-designated terrain, constitute a riziková skupina (risk group) requiring an add-on premium surcharge (OPP Art. 7, VPP Art. 32, Table Rizikové skupiny čl. I písm. d), e)).

Sports, activities and work classified as riziková skupina (risk group) are excluded from standard coverage (VPP Art. 14 ods. 1 písm. l), Art. 20 písm. l)). They can be covered by agreeing a risk group add-on in the policy for an additional premium surcharge (OPP Art. 7). Risk groups are defined in the Table of Risk Groups applicable from 15.05.2013. Not available for seniors (OPP Art. 7 ods. 5).

Costs arising from risky pregnancy indicated by a doctor before the insured trip start are excluded (VPP Art. 20g). Costs arising from intentional termination of pregnancy are excluded (Art. 20h). Costs from pregnancy after the 26th week including childbirth and its complications are excluded (Art. 20i). Only acute emergency treatment of pregnancy-related conditions not falling under these exclusions may be covered.

Covers the insured's liability for damage caused to third parties (bodily injury or property damage) arising from ordinary activities during the insured trip. Limit 200,000 EUR per insured event; aggregate limit up to three times the per-event limit during the policy period (VPP Art. 36). Co-insurance applies: 5%, min. 50 EUR, max. 350 EUR per claim (OPP Art. 6 ods. 2 písm. a)).

Basic 24/7 assistance services are provided by the insurer's contracted assistance company at no extra cost. Services include: coordinating and selecting medical facilities, arranging treatment, organising repatriation, providing medical guarantees to hospitals, monitoring the insured's condition and arranging accompaniment. Contact details of the assistance company are published on the insurer's website (VPP Art. 1 ods. 1, Art. 22).

Assistance call deadline
Upon hospitalisation, the insured must present proof of insurance and contact the assistance company without undue delay (VPP Art. 21 písm. a)). After returning to SR, the insured must submit documents for outpatient care paid on site in cash immediately upon return (VPP Art. 21 písm. c)).
Unauthorized treatment
Costs incurred without prior approval of the insurer/assistance company are not covered, except for emergency outpatient care, urgent treatment immediately threatening life or basic vital functions, and measures to eliminate acute pain (VPP Art. 20 písm. b)). If the insured refuses medically feasible repatriation, subsequent treatment and repatriation costs are not covered (VPP Art. 19 ods. 5).
Purchase while abroad
If the insured is not in SR at the time of concluding the policy (or at the time of preparation of the proposal in case of distance contracts), insurance does not start before 6 days from the date of conclusion. This 6-day waiting period does not apply if the new policy immediately follows another travel insurance with the same insurer (VPP Art. 4 ods. 4, Art. 5 ods. 6).
Chronic conditions
Treatment of chronic or pre-existing conditions (including post-injury states) that existed at policy conclusion and required hospitalisation or worsened during the preceding 12 months is excluded; only costs for acute emergency treatment and interventions strictly necessary to prevent immediate risk to life or health are covered (VPP Art. 20 písm. e)).
Pregnancy
Pregnancy-related costs after the 26th week of pregnancy (including childbirth and complications) are excluded (VPP Art. 20 písm. i)). Risky pregnancy indicated by a physician before the insured trip is excluded (Art. 20 písm. g)). Only acute emergency treatment of non-excluded pregnancy conditions may be covered.
pre_existing_conditions
Conditions known before the policy start requiring hospitalisation in the prior 12 months or worsening are excluded from standard treatment; only acute emergency treatment strictly necessary to prevent immediate risk to life or health is covered. Treatment of acute diseases persisting at the start of the insured trip where a physician recommends against travel is also excluded (VPP Art. 20 písm. d), e)).
coverage_duration_limit
For short-term insurance (tariffs 1I5, 2I5, 3I5, etc.): maximum 90 days from policy start. For annual insurance: applies to first 90 days of each individual trip commenced during the policy period (for standard annual tariffs 1RR5, 2RR5, 4RR5, etc.). The insurer automatically extends the end of cover if the insured is hospitalised abroad during the policy period and hospitalisation exceeds the agreed policy end date (max. 3 calendar days after hospitalisation end), or if extraordinary circumstances prevent return before policy end date (up to 24:00 the day after the policy end) (VPP Art. 8 ods. 10, OPP Art. 4).
