Direct payment

If the insured has not already paid the costs, UNIQA settles the claim directly with the healthcare facility, in the currency in which the invoice was issued, once all required claim documents have been submitted.

Geographic scope

Worldwide

Cover applies worldwide, but a single trip may not exceed 45 days (extendable to 90 days for an extra premium) or 90 days if travelling only within the defined Europe zone. Legal assistance does not apply in Slovakia or the insured's country of permanent residence, while HZS mountain rescue costs are separately covered within Slovak territory.

Unique selling points

  • Every 4th Slovak holds an insurance product from UNIQA, reflecting strong market presence and customer trust.
  • UNIQA's travel insurance took 1st place in the Financial Product of the Year 2023 competition.
  • Above-standard 24/7 assistance services are included in the price of the policy, with support in the Slovak language.
  • The Extra tier removes the usual upper age limit, letting travellers over 70 stay insured, unlike the 70-year cap on Basic, Plus and Komfort.
  • All four tiers include Mountain Rescue Service (HZS) intervention costs in Slovakia up to €16,600, even though this is a policy for trips abroad.

Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

In the event of hospitalization, the insured must contact UNIQA Assistance without undue delay, and in any case no later than 3 days after the insured event, and present the assistance card in hospital.

Unauthorized treatment

If the insured breaches notification, cooperation or documentation duties, the insurer may proportionately reduce or refuse the claim, depending on the impact of the breach on its ability to determine the claim.

Purchase while abroad

If an insured person is already outside Slovakia when the policy is concluded, cover begins at 00:00 Slovak time on the 5th day after conclusion of the contract, unless otherwise agreed, and the same trip-length rules apply.

Chronic conditions

Unforeseeable acute deterioration of a chronic or pre-existing condition is covered up to €20,000, but only if it did not require hospitalization in the 9 months before the policy started; certain conditions (heart disease, cancer, stroke, type I diabetes, epilepsy, multiple sclerosis) requiring hospitalization in that period are excluded outright.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy complications are covered as an acute illness only up to the completion of the 26th week of pregnancy; childbirth, its complications thereafter, and routine pregnancy-related costs are excluded.

Pre-existing condition exclusions

Pre-existing/chronic conditions are covered only for an unforeseeable acute relapse, capped at €20,000, and are excluded entirely if they required hospitalization in the 9 months preceding the start of the policy.

Coverage duration limit

A single trip may not exceed 45 days worldwide or 90 days within the defined Europe zone; the 45-day worldwide limit can be extended to 90 days for an additional premium; if the insured is hospitalized abroad, cover extends for the necessary hospital stay up to a further 60 days; if a delayed public carrier prevents timely return, cover extends up to 5 further days.
