Key conditions

Assistance call deadline

The insured must contact Europ Assistance immediately upon occurrence of any event that may give rise to a covered guarantee. In the event of force majeure preventing this, the call must be made as soon as the cause ceases. Maximum 7 days from knowledge of the incident to report it; failure to report within this period may result in Europ Assistance claiming resulting damages and losses.

Unauthorized treatment

Services not previously communicated to Europ Assistance and those for which prior authorization was not obtained are expressly excluded as a general rule. If the insured acts contrary to instructions given by Europ Assistance, any costs incurred due to such non-compliance are borne entirely by the insured. If the insured refuses medical transport in the manner and conditions determined by Europ Assistance's medical team, all guarantees and costs resulting from that decision are automatically suspended.

Purchase while abroad

The policy must be signed/accepted and the premium paid before the travel start date, which cannot be later than the start of the trip. The guarantee for travel cancellation (non-commenced trip) only takes effect when at least 72 hours have elapsed between contracting the insurance and the event causing the cancellation. Once the insured period has started, the premium is not refunded under any circumstances.

Chronic conditions

Chronic diseases (defined as lasting three months or more and normally progressing slowly) are excluded from coverage. Pre-existing or chronic conditions that manifested before the start of travel are not covered when they manifest during the trip, with the sole exception in the base T&C being if the same condition was already treated by Europ Assistance during the same annual insurance period. Medication continuation for chronic conditions is also excluded from pharmacy reimbursement.

Pregnancy

Pregnancy diagnosis, monitoring, treatment, voluntary termination, and childbirth are excluded. Coverage applies only for urgent obstetric attention occurring before the sixth month of gestation. The ACUNSA co-branded version specifies the limit as before week 26 of gestation.

pre_existing_conditions

Pre-existing conditions present before policy inception or before the start of travel are excluded. The policy covers only unforeseen illness ("enfermedad sobrevenida") that arises unexpectedly during travel and requires medical attention. The only exception in the base retail T&C is when the same condition was treated by Europ Assistance during the current annual insurance period.

coverage_duration_limit

Coverage is valid for trips not exceeding 90 consecutive days. Annual modalities (BYEBYE!, BYEBYE COUPLE!, BYEBYE FAMILY!) are valid for foreign stays not exceeding 90 consecutive days. For Schengen and Schengen Plus modalities when the policyholder does not have habitual residence in Spain, the maximum duration cannot exceed 120 days. The MISSYOU! modality offers semi-annual (183 days) or annual (365 days) coverage for long-term stays.
